Ancient people and bamboo trees are hand-painted on it. The signature of"Kutani" ... moreis written on the bottom. Kutani ware is Japanese porcelain made in Kaga province(now in Ishikawa prefecture) The name“Old Kutani” refers to porcelain decorated with heavily applied overglaze enamels and produced in the Kaga mountain village of Kutani. The powerful Maeda family had established a kiln there by 1656. The clay bodies used were gray and coarse-grained. On most pieces—dishes and bowls were especially common—a white or blue-white matte glaze was decorated in dark. Antique Kutani Red & White Ginger Jar with Foo Dog Lid Red Markings Bottom/Lid
Check out my! This is listed as red but could be conidered rusty red. Tthe height approximates 11 inches with the lid and about 8 inches without the lid. There are 3 symbols on the bottom. The top 2 Are what I believe to be for Kutani. The 3rd. Which I believe to be the maker, I cannot identify. There are also 2 marks on the inner edge of the lid, which I cannot identify. All marks are in red. There is damage to the piece where the foo dog at some time was separated from the lid and reattached. There is also a chip on the tail. Other than that, I see no other damage. I do not know the age or history of this item as it was purchased at an estate auction.

Here is a beautiful Antique Kutani ware Japanese Teapot in Very Fine condition with very little wear and no cracks or repairs. It is about 7" tall and 3.5" wide at the bottom. It has a bright orange glaze with black. Gold, green, blue and red in the coloring. It is very elegant, highly detailed, colorful and playful. It is hand painted and signed on the bottom and the top is as equally as beuatiful as the pot. There is only one very slight barely noticible edge wear inside the cover where the gap is for the tea to pour through but this does not affect the overall outstanding quality of this otherwise gorgeous teapot. Antique Japanese Kutani Porcelain Tea Jar Caddy Sale!
A very nice e-bayer gave me information on this item as I knew nothing about it. I am relisting it with his information added to my original. He says the Signature is Kanji and he can read Dai Nippon or Great Japan. and is well signed. He also wrote that it was made about 1870-1890 and is Japanese Kutani Porcelain and is a tea caddy or jar. I bought this piece from a 85 year old lady. She did not remember anything about this item as to where she had aquired it. There is a mark on the bottom. The jar itself is in excellent condition with no chips or cracks and very fine crazing you can see on the bottom and about an inch up from the bottom. The rest of the jar looks to be craze free. The bottom and inside the lid and dish are shiny but the paint doesn't seem to be glazed over. This jar is very busy and different each way you look. It is ... morein shades of rust and cream with fine gold trim. It is full of rose petals that i left alone. The small lid is fine but the larger lid was broken and repaired. THe jar measures about 5 1/2 inches tall and about 4 inches across. If anyone out there in the e-bay communittee knows anything about this item and is willing to share that would be wonderful. Colors of bow aat neck very intense orange. Royal blue and green- very brilliant compared to others. The golden fur stripes have a beautiful feathery brush stroke to imitate actual fur. Coat markings, tail position, face markings, bow pattern are individual to this figurine. Marks showing on cat's back- one dark spot by bow and gold spot down toward tail, are baked into the porcelain. ANTIQUE 1920/1930 JAPANESE KUTANI HOTEI TAISHO BUDDHA IN MINT CONDITION
This is a truly spectacular antique Taisho Kutani Buddha statue in mint condition. The gold leaf and enamel patterns are intricate and beautiful. This statue is signed by the artist and it still has the original tag on the bottom. As shown, but the number is too faded to read. It's an antique, and I was told by a very kind Ebay collector that it dates to the 1920's or 1930's. My research shows it listed as HOTEI-one of the Seven Lucky Gods, who was known for his generosity. The sack on his back carried an endless supply of rice to feed the hungry: Hotei 布袋. Male. The god of contentment and happiness. Guardian of children, and patron of bartenders. Hotei 布袋 has a cheerful face and a big belly. He is supposedly based on an actual person, and is widely recognized outside of Japan as the Fat, Laughing Buddha. He carries a large cloth ... morebag over his back(Nunobukuro 布袋, lit. = cloth bag) one that never empties, for he uses it to feed the poor and needy. It includes an inexhaustible cache of treasures, including food and drink. Indeed, the Japanese spelling of“Hotei” literally means“cloth bag. He also holds a Chinese fan called an oogi 扇(said to be a“wish giving” fan- in the distant past. This type of fan was used by the aristocracy to indicate to vassals that their requests would be granted) Hotei is most likely based on the itinerant 10th-century Chinese Buddhist monk and hermit Budaishi(d. 917) who is said to be an incarnation of(Maitreya in Sanskrit) Hotei is sometimes shown surrounded by a group of small children. Romping and squealing in delight around his rotund shape. This statue measures 11.5" tall. And it's approximately 7.5" wide and 7.5" deep. The plate has skirt or wavy rim, with a brown trim to make it pretty. This piece features a traditional Japanese warrior motif on the rim. The rim is also decorated with red and orange floral decorations. The rim of the bottom bowl is decorated with a Greek key design. The handles on each side is fashioned into branch-like shapes. The finial of the lid is gilded. Height to top of finial: 6 1/4 inches. Length from handle to handle: 12 1/4 inches. The finial has been broken and repaired. You can see that the branch or vine is broken off. There are surface scratches from use. The gilding on the rim is worn off. Otherwise. Vintage mid century Japanese porcelain sleeping cat also known as a Nemuri Neko that measures about 9 inches long by 4 inches high by 4.5 inches wide. Antique TAME& NAKAMURA Kutani Nippon Hand Painted Teapot w 4 Cup/Saucer Set Up for sale is a gorgeous antique Japanese"NIPPON TN" hand painted teapot. Chocolate or coffee pot with 4 cups and 5 saucers. TN = Tame& Nakamura which I understand is a Kutani maker. The marked is green laurel leaves which, if my research is correct, is approx. 1920s-1940s. The pieces all have matching scenes with Mt. Fuji in the background. There a pagoda, women walking, an arch gate and blossoming trees. The pink flowers on the pieces have raised(satsuma) white dots. The teapot is approx. 8.5" tall to the top of the curled flower petal lid knob. The bottom is approx. 5.25" in diameter. The lid has little flying birds and the top rim of the pot is decorated with flowers. The 4 cups are nearly 3" tall and 2.5" in diameter at ... morethe lip. Just one cup as a 3/4 faint crack that comes down from the lip-it's still very usable. There are 5 saucers(an extra one) pictured in the photo but only 4 are included in this sale-4 cups and 4 saucers. They are approx. 4.75" in diameter. One saucer has a little chip on the underneath side of the lip. It's not visible from the painted side. I purchased this set at an estate auction. Again, it's a lovely set. Please note that my shipping time is up to 5 business days as I have multiple jobs and can only ship one day a week. This is a great collection of 7 piece Sake/ Liquor set that showcases the popular hand made. Not machine made. The uneven crackle glazed Yaki and hand painted bird and flowers shows the uniqueness of each item, no replica creation as each was molded and hand crafted. The set was from Kutani Yaki, Kaga area of west Japan(main island) Each item has signed mark on the bottom. The body of the Sake pot is not regular round shape. It designed two asymmetrical dents to make you holding it steady and easy. The flower and birds handpainted with golden color and the Sake pot has gold trim on the openning. Time to start downsizing. I will be listing a collection of antique Oriental items. Mostly porcelains, as well as other antiques, in the next few weeks and months.
