There are 21 chuban-sized prints included in the series which is indicative of the early transitional style of shin hanga. The artists who created designs for the series were: Koho Shoda, Eijiro Kobayashi, Yoshimune Arai, Kiyochika Kobayashi, and Gyosui Suzuki. The series is comprised of prints showing evening and night views of popular Japanese landscape tableaux often under a full moon. Variant editions employing sepia and brown tones are also known. Sumida River" Sumida River" by Hokusai(1760-1849) Considered one of the most prolific of ukiyo-e"pictures of the floating world" masters. ... moreHe distinguished himself as a man of imaginative genius and a leading figure of ukiyo-e. Limited to 100 prints. Each print is hand numbered. The image is printed on mold-made, 100% cotton rag watercolor paper imported from France. The image size is 9.75" X 15.75" The paper size is 15" x 22" We use the same printer as the Museum of Fine Art in Boston. The image is printed"Giclee" Giclee is a high-resolution digital print that is created by a series of tiny jets spraying millions of droplets of printing ink onto the highest quality archival artists' paper. The spray generates more than four million droplets of ink per second; hence. The name Giclee, which is French for"fine spray. A precise computer control panel insures consistency of hue, value, and density. Giclees are of such phenomenal quality that even some art experts have difficulty telling a Giclee from an original. This fact has prompted museums and collectors to substitute Giclees for originals, thereby safeguarding priceless works in vaults. Since the Giclee process produces a combination of 512 chromatic changes(with over three and one-half million colors possible) and the resolution is two to three times that of lithographs serigraphy, a Giclee captures every nuance of an original.Guaranteed to be in mint/new condition. The result is a stunning work, handsome, moody and would look great with any decor. The gallery retail price for this art print is $250.00) Look and see what other collectors have said! The art print came today and it looks great. We're building a new house and this will look great. Thanks. The Print arrived today. And I must say that it is even more beautiful than I had imagined. ANTIQUE 1890 SIGNED SUMIDA JAPAN FOLKLORE FOLK ART POTTERY FIGURES STEIN CUP MUG
HARD TO FIND RYOSAI SUMIDA THREE CHARACTER STEIN. MUG OR CUP! Nice estate collection example of an early Japanese Sumida stein. Cup or mug with three characters.the cup form not often seen. The style of applied figures on the glazed surface of pottery was invented about 1890 by the Seto potter Ryosai I. Who worked in Tokyo from about 1875 to 1900. They are often embellished with glazed plaques with hand written signatures or general good luck symbols. Sumida pottery has often been called by many names- Poo ware. Sumidagawa, Banko, or Asakusa Banko. It acquired its name from the Sumida River that runs through the Asakusa district of Tokyo. One of the most prolific producers was the Inoue Ryosai studio. It has become common practice to attribute any signature found on Sumida ware to Ryosai. Other major and lesser potters were Hara Gozan. Ishiguro ... moreKoko, Sakurai Fuji and Sezan. Over seventy different marks are known. The marks are inscribed in kanji. However not all pieces are marked. Our example is marked on the traditional applied white plaque or tile at the side bottom rim edge near the handle.possibly one of the Ryosai kanji signatures. But specifically unidentified with the estate. With a glazed dark green interior, and unglazed red exterior with three female characters on the exterior front, it is a lovely example of a stein. Mug or cup appearing to demonstrate the"Speak No Evil, See No Evil, Hear No Evil" mantra. Measuring about 4& 7/8" tall to the rim edge of the cup, we do have a bit of damage and loss in two places that we have pointed out for you in our posted photos. No other issues are noted save for general age and storage wea, minor dust and dander. Wonderful piece to add to any collection! Ask questions if you have them.will be carefully packed and shipped promptly upon confirmation of your payment. We prefer our clients to have Public. Rather than Private, feedback. International bidders are required to pay via Paypal within 48 hours of close. NO EXCEPTIONS! Items will be shipped U

Antique 19th Century Japanese Sumida cup / mug
This is an intriguing cup/mug and the detail is fine. The item background is chocolate brown with a green glazed interior. There is some expected paint wear on external areas of the mug(as depicted in photos) The integrity of this item is excellent; there are not any knicks. Chips, breaks, repairs or ceramic cracks. The 3-D artwork is 100% intact with no chips, cracks, breaks or missing pieces. Item measures 4.5" tall and 3" diameter at base. This item is identified as a Inoue Ryosai. One of the most prolific producers was the Inoue Ryosai studio. The detail in the 3 dimensional artwork on this mug is high quality. In the earlier works the intricacy of the applied figures is often amazing. Individual features on faces can be seen in detail. When demand increased for these mugs, facial features lost detail. Because this mug does ... morenot include any oranges or reds. It is determined 19th century work. The style of applied figures on a surface with flowing glaze was invented about 1890 by the Seto potter Ryosai I. Who worked in Tokyo from about 1875 to 1900. They are often embellished with glazed plaques with hand written signatures or general good luck symbols. A great number of the pieces are probably the work of a single family- Inoue Ryosai I(1828- Inoue Ryosai II(born c. 1860) and Inuoue Ryosai III(1888-1971) who moved the manufacturing site to Yokohama in 1924. After the move to Yokohama more colours e.g. orange were added to the wares. The later pieces also have an unglazed background. The resource for the general information regarding Sumida can be found by visiting. From which I have included excerpts.

TOYOHIRO Japanese Ukiyo-e Woodblock Print: Entertaining on the Sumida River
This charming reprint is by Utagawa Toyohiro(Japanese. 1773-1828) Toyohiro was a member of the Utagawa school and studied under Utagawa Toyoharu, the school’s founder. Much of his work includes studies of life in the Yoshiwara. The pleasure quarters. As well as landscapes such as this delightful view of three beautiful young women enjoying a picnic by the Sumida River as it flows through Edo. Now Tokyo. The beauties are entertaining each other on a platform over the river. One woman plays the shamisen. An instrument similar to a guitar but with a slimmer neck and no frets, while another carries a teakettle. A tray holds a platter of fish and other refreshments, and a lantern glows overhead. Beautiful shading in the sky and water creates a dramatic setting for this lovely party. Would make a fantastic framed display. This is truly a classic ... moreukiyo-e image. It was made from recarved wooden blocks using exactly the same technique. And with the same excellent detail and rich color, as the original. It would be an outstanding choice for any discerning collector. Selecting a later edition print like this is an exciting way to add to a collection and is also a wonderful way to decorate– at a small fraction of the staggering cost of a print from the first edition. Framed and matted. This print would make a stunning presentation by itself or in a grouping with other prints. Utagawa Toyohiro is represented in many museums throughout the world including the Metropolitan Museum of Art. New York; the Museum of Fine Arts. Boston; the Art Institute of Chicago. Chicago; and the British Museum. London. ARTIST: Utagawa Toyohiro(Japanese. 1773-1828) TITLE: Entertaining on the Sumida River. MEDIUM: Genuine polychrome woodblock print; ink and color on handmade paper. IMAGE SIZE: Approx. 14 ¾” x 9 ¾” 37.5 cm x 24,8 cm) SHEET SIZE: Approx. 15” x 10” 38.1 cm x 25,4 cm) CONDITION: Beautiful detail and color. Please examine the scans carefully. Thank you. SUMIDA GAWA RIBBED MONKEY CUP with Inoue Ryosai Mark
