Click them a second time to enlarge. Item Description: I am pleased to offer this original and old hand-made Japanese sword. Or Nihonto. Brought back from WWII. The sword is a Koto tanto of the well-known swordsmith Yamato Norinaga and is mounted in Minty high quality Samurai Mounts. The blade is in Very Good condition and the mountings are in Near MINT condition. The sword has a blade length of 9.5 inches(24cm) It features a hira zukuri construction without a ridgeline. The hada is a burl mokume mixed with a flowing and straight masame along the edge. The hamon is a straight suguha ending in a maru boshi. The hamon does not show a nioi guchi or activities. The tang is signed Yamato no Kuni Norinaga. Yamato Norinaga is the founder of the Shikkake school of swordsmiths. Working in the Yamato tradition from 1300s-1400s. There were several generations of Norinaga. This tanto may or may not be from a later generation of Norinaga but the tanto shows age and shape consistent with the time period of mid Koto as well as some Yamato traits like masame hada. The blade comes in original Samurai mountings that are a high quality and customized wooden construction. They are in Near MINT condition. The tsuka is wood and features differing menuki. Externally attached to each side. The mekugi is a pin showing a crane family mon. The tsuba is shakudo with nanako ground and shows a dragon along the mimi. Or edge. There is one seppa. The saya(scabbard) is ribbed wood and includes inlays on it. It shows no cracking and few areas of missing finish, retaining ~97-99% original finish. For auction is this fine antique Japanese wakizashi sword set. The 17th century blade is a real beauty. The japanese polish is high quality and mint condition, completely damage free clean blade with very sharp edge, also flawless with only a couple of very minor usual kizu above the shinogi line(ridge) nothing on the cutting surface. The temperline is Sanbonsugi hamon. A very fine pattern developed in the 16th century by Kanemoto. The activities are truly fantastic with fully packed activities. Lot of Nie crystals, Sunagashi, Inazuma, elegant peaks and valleysm very dense and flamboyant temperline that is very scarce and desirable and hard to find, especialy on a minty blade. The grain work is also very good and healthy. Not overpolished blade, the tip is elegant with a fine clearly visible boshi also full of nice activities and shape. The ... moretang has 2 holes and unsigned with nice patination. Although it is unsigned there is sayagaki in the shirasaya. A judgment by the master polisher. Although I did not have time to have it translated fully it is clear that it states the blade was made by Katsukuni. The Katsukuni smiths were well known for being skilled at creating the famous sanbonsugi hamon. The Edo koshirae is great. The old saya has kaeritsuno(horn hook) too, the lacquer is good with minor dings from use. The double copper habaki in nicely filed and heavily gold washed. The copper tsuba has nice open theme and the rim is gold washed also. The tsuka has good old rayskin and tight ito. Finely detailed inlayed copper menukies in the shape of bulls, good iron fuchi and kashira also. Nothing rattles. Very nice sword. It also comes with copy of japanese registration card along with the shirasaya set too. Highly recommended sword made to high standard. 17th Century Antique Japanese Wakizashi / Katana sword in fittings, fine tsuba
My pride and joy- A fine late 17th century Japanese wakizashi. Completely original late 1600's/ early 1700's blade in great polish with no fatal flaws. The blade is in a quite rare/ uncommon shobu zukuri style. This is not a cut down Katana. Instead it was in my opinion forged as a wakizashi and would have been part of a pair of daisho(katana and wakizashi) worn by the samurai of yore. The blade has cutting edge of about 14 inches. Blade is about 1.5 inches wide at the widest point. and the tang measures approx 4.2 inches. In its saya, the total length is 23.5 inches long. It has an irregular hamon that covers the length of the blade with no flaws and shows nice activity. Which could enhanced with just a basic touch up polish done by a professional(something i neither have the money or contacts here in the UK to arrange myself) The ... moreis in very good condition for a 300+ year old blade. There are some minor openings along the spine of the blade but they are minimal, look worse in the pictures than they do in the flesh, and are not fatal flaws. The blade is not'tired' and could take another polish. The edge is razor sharp and has no nicks/ chips that i can see with the naked eye. There is no rust/ pitting. The nakago has not been tampered with and has a nice even oxidization. The koshirae are nice but kind of a mixed bag. The tsuba is very nice. With nice carving and gold embellishments and certainly has much age(1800's? though dating tsuba is beyond a novice like me. The tsuka is rock solid, the whole blade has no movement within its mounts. The tsuka has a tight and well done green ito wrap with fully intact same showing some nice nodes. This obviously again has age. The copper menuki, and the horn kashira(spellings? are obviously later additions however. The habaki is a quality one, nicely done in thick gold foil(which is starting to crack slightly along the edge on one side) The saya is in good condition with black laquer(that has suffered some minor paint chips over its life. not many and aga

The forging grain is tight Koitame-hada and no forging flaws at all. The scabbard is urushi lacquered wood scabbard. Shows no dent. No crack and in excellent condition. Up for auction is an original WWII Japanese Army Katana Samuri Sword with Scabbard. No serial number(s) anywhere. We know that there might be numbers inside the handle and that it comes apart. But I am not experienced enough to take the handle apart, I'm afraid I'll damage the sword. What I know about this sword for certain is that it was brought back to the U.S. after WWII. The person that brought this back is no longer living. His sister found the sword in 1981 in his garage when they were cleaning his house after he had passed away. They have kept it all these years in their home. They didn't know the sword existed until they found it after his death. We do think it's the real deal based on what little information we have. Scabbard retains roughly 80% of the original paint. Handle retains roughly 65% of the original paint. ... moreCatch that hold the blade in place on the handle DOES NOT work properly. This is an antique wakizashi Japanese sword I purchased from a dealer in Japan. I was told it was signed Iga No Kami Kanemichi. But it is not papered. It comes in a shirisaya. with silk sword bag. This has a beautiful wavy temper line. There is a blister at the mid part on the Ji and also just before the Hibaki. The cutting edge is in very good sharp condition with no chips or nicks. The cutting blade is 54cm. The total length with tang is 69cm. Total shirisaya length is 79.5cm

All of the decorative pieces on here are brass or copper and have some great patina to them and are very ornate. The top of the handle has a metal piece on it and the handle is some sort of leather or leather substitute as well as a few asian flower decorations. There is a knuckle gaurd and end piece that is metal and has a nice patina. The blade has alot of designs on it and appears to be signed but I do not have any idea of what it says or the maker. It almost appears that this is handmade but that I am unsure of that too. The sheath is covered in a leather type of material and metal accents around it as well as two hangers on the sheath and it is ... moreall very ornate with a nice patina. The blade is in great shape with little to no pitting and shows great detail. Fresh out of an up state New York estate a samurai era sword guard. Tsuba for a Tanto, knife length sword. It is made of forged iron with a sea wave modified engraved over the entire surface. Wave crests are highlighted in gold dots with some missing and sea shells in gold foil, with some wear as to be expected from an used item this old. There is no other damage and the guard retains its deep chocolate patina, see pictures. This sword has been mounted as evidenced by the copper shim placed in the opening for the tang of a sword. This is a Japanese sword in honzukuri mountings. This Gunto is guessed use in Kamikaze corps or the tank corps. The blade is signed"Soshu Jyu Hiromitsu 相州住広光" Shinogi-zukuri shape, early Muromachi period ca. 1339 era made Hiromasa school blade.I am guessed three generation Hiromasa. The blade is in old full polish. Shows tiny scratches on surface. The temper line is Gunome with choji temper pattern and maru temper at the point. The forging grain is tight itame-hada and no forging flaws at all. The scabbard is urushi lacquered wood scabbard. Shows no dent, no crack and in excellent condition. The handle wrap is old wrapping. It was fitted in the saya pocket opposite of the kozuka on some wakizashi's and tanto's. It is made out of shakudo(copper gold alloy) and has NANAKO background. KIRIN was together with PHOENIX and DRAGON one of 3 most common mythical creatures in feudal Japan. The hitsu-ana(opening for the sword implements) is of an older style. The slightly raised rim is well done and shows the skill of the maker of this guard. The plate shows a very nice hammered pattern and there are some silver and copper inserts on the two surfaces(four on each side) The guard shows a nice dark patina and is in excellent condition with no rust. ANTIQUE AKASAKA SCHOOL JAPANESE SWORD TSUBA--NOT A CHINESE REPRO
I am offering a Edo period Japanese sukashi(openwork) tsuba with a copper rim. I estimate that the guard belongs to the Akasaka school of tsuba makers. The tsuba measures 2 and 7/8 inches high. 2 and 3/4 inches wide and is 4.5 mm thick. The openwork design is of a praying mantis and a water wheel. The hitsu-ana(openings for the sword implements) are clearly of the style seen in the Akasaka school. The copper rim is probably made of shakado whose dark patina has been rubbed away. The guard shows a nice dark patina and there are remnants of gold and silver decoration on the surface. ANTIQUE OWARI SCHOOL JAPANESE SWORD TSUBA--NOT A CHINESE REPRO
I am offering a good Muromachi period(est. 1550) Japanese sukashi(openwork) tsuba. I estimate that the guard belongs to the Owari school of tsuba makers. The tsuba measures 2 and 11/16 inches high. 2 and 5/8 inches wide and is 3/16 of an inch thick. The openwork design is of birds flying around the rim. The hitsu-ana(openings for the sword implements) are of the old style and one has been filled with shakado(one plate of the shakudo is missing) The guard shows a deep, dark patina and it was obviously a favorite as it has been mounted numerous times on swords. There is one longitudinal flaw on the rim(about 11/16th of an inch long) which is probably the result of a forging flaw or an old strike on the guard-the rim is not broken.
