8 5/8" tall Japanese champleve vase converted to a lamp with a wooden scroll footed base. The lamp is 13" tall to the top of the socket. In good condition with a light ding shown in the last picture. The champleve feels a little rough. Consistent with its age. The lamp is in working condition. The cord is supple. The brass cap is a consistently aged patina. Antique Bronze Champleve 3 Light Table Lamp c. 1900's. Japanese Beautiful. Large, antique Japanese bronze/champleve with three lights. Entire lamp from base to top of hardware pole is 28" to the top of the base is 15" and the base is 9" in diameter. Light sockets are not original and the cord is not new but is in good condition. This lamp has some flaking of the enamels and is missing enamel in four circles that are in the second band of decoration from the top. The gilding is worn off that once covered all the metal areas but I believe that is the case with most of these pieces. Champlevé is an enamelling technique in the decorative arts. Or an object made by that process, in which troughs or cells are carved or cast into the surface of a metal object. And filled with vitreous enamel. The piece is then fired until ... morethe enamel melts. And when cooled the surface of the object is polished. It has applied grapes, vines and leaves and appears organic in nature. There are overall spots of discoloration where the vase has oxidized, not unsightly, normal for age. It also has a very shallow dent under bottom of single applied leaf. You can see it in first picture. Other than these, no damage or repairs. The piece is beautifully done with classic Japanese Buddha features. The remains of a green paint and some gilding behind the ear are still visible. Aesthetic Movement Bronze Mounted Anglo Japanese Vase This terrifically strong AngloJapanese Aesthetic movement vase was retailed by Tilden Thurber in Providence Rhode Island. I am not sure who the maker is. But I bet many of the cleverer eBay Art Pottery dealers will recognize the mark. The quality and strength of this cloisonne style decoration is striking. The gilded grotesque mounted base and rustic bamboo form top, are probably clues to the maker as well. My first guess would be French, but it could just as well be English or even American.I just don't know. Condition is superb. Only very slight bending and wear to the mounts as an apology. Nice vase. HEIGHT 8 1/8( 20.8 cm) I sell most of my items on eBay with a reasonable reserve. Often at my cost, and always less than what I would expect the item to sell for.
