RARE 17/18 SOUTH EAST ASIA BURMESE MARBLE OF A RECLINING BUDDHA NO RESERVE
This listing is for a 17 th or 18 th century South East Asian or Burmese carved marble reclining Buddha. The Buddha measures 30 inches long. 11 ¾ inches at its highest point and is 6 ½ inches deep(76 by 30 by 16.5 cm) The sculpture is carved form one piece of hewn marble and weighs 110 pounds. The marble carving features a reclined Buddha resting its head in its right hand on a lotus flower. The statue of Buddha in a reclining position depicts Buddha in his last hours before his passing. This is that moment when Buddha is enters“Nirvana” Which is a state of enlightenment. The reclining Buddha signifies tranquility and absolute detachment from the desires of the world, a state obtained on the attainment of Nirvana. The marble has remnants of its original polychrome; the base has traces of green and the back of the figures robes have ... moretraces of red. He has 13 parts, three each on the legs and arms, the body and head is one solid wood piece. His feet pivot forward and hands bend backwards. This is a rare pair of large Antique Burmese wood lacquer shun-ok offering bowls vessels with matching lids. The pieces are tall at 23 1/2" and 8" across the base. Each of the bowls consists of the base. Lid and interior fitted tray. They are heavy at 4.10 pounds each. They are both in very nice condition with no damage other than some light loss to the lacquer. There are no breaks or chips to the wood. Antique Burmese Flower Table red with gold decor
Table is in two parts namely the upper"plate" and the lower base. The plate is 16 inches in diameter and the entire table stands 22 inches tall. Overall condition is quite good given the age of this piece. There are some age cracks where the legs meet the plate support top. The color and gold trim have been well preserved with only minor losses.

I DID COUNT every piece of jade 160 and also counted a majority of sequins around the edges and the horse there are approx 2400 hand made metal sequins they are not tarnished and each was hand made each hand stitched. in addition the large jade pieces are carved on th back so that the stiching could be made to hold them in place very unique Kalagas. RARE Antique Burmese Nat - Carved Wood. Spirit Worship Burma Buddhism Doll
I have two wonderful authentic antique Nats for sale this week. This sale is for the one pictured only. I bought these two in Burma in the early 90’s back when Burma saw fewer than 40.000 foreign visitors per year. At that time true antiques were easy to find but today it’s nearly impossible and sadly most are fakes. These two Nats are very weathered and this one more so than the other. The paint on the left side of his face is nearly gone and his real hair has become unraveled. The paint is chipped in a few places so take a good look at the photos. I suspect he sat under a Bo tree outdoors for many years but he is still wonderful to look at and is full of character. Am slowly downsizing a sizeable collection of artifacts from around the world. Gathered not just by myself in 40+ years of travel, but from older relatives as well. Time to pass on this lovely vintage Burmese(Myanmar) lacquerware'lunch box' Bought in 1972 in Chiang Mai. Thailand. If not familiar with these ingenious kits, you'll see from the photos that once assembled, it transports easily carried by the handle. Comes apart to provide a tea cup and saucer, a rimmed plate, a deeper bowl for soups and curries, and of course the large main vessel which would be used to carry the food and later, filled with water for washing the dishes. Certainly useful but these days it's strongest purpose is most certainly decorative! In excellent condition. There is a small chip to the saucer which I've shown in the photos.
