19TH CENTURY ORIGINAL ANTIQUE OPIUM WEIGHT MYHTICAL BIRD DUCK SET OF 3 SIZE
Item ID: OPW-D3-121110 Title: BURMA-LAO-THAILAND(GOLDEN TRIANGLE) OPIUM WEIGHT DUCK(HAMZA MYHTICAL BIRD) SHAPE SET OF 3 Date: AD 19th Century- early 20th Century Material: Bronze(copper. Tin, zinc) Condition: Very fine condition. No scratch, no rust Description: 1 set of 3 Duck(Hamza Myhtical Bird) shape opium weight: 158. 78, 32 g. The mountain tribes of the Golden Triangle(Burma.Lao and Thailand) used these small animal-figure weights to weight opium when the opium trade was flourishing in the area around the 18-19th century, although they were made actually for everyday use, including all sort of commercial. It is not exactly known when this sort of weight originated but some archaeological excavation documentation mentioned a finding of duck shape and lion shape sculptures dating back to 100-400 A.D. in Central Burma. Hamza(or Hinta) ... moreMyhtical Birds(more of Swan) was considered by Burmese a sacred animal. Living in the sacred place called"Himalaya Forest" and bring good luck to worshiper. It is hard to tell the age of each opium weight. But it can be estimated by the consistancy of the alloy it made of. Up until last half of 19th century, they were made of bronze while the older ones, made in 16th/17th century, contained more copper and thus are more reddish color. During late 17th and 18th century, tin was most prevalent and giving more silvery hue. Most after that they were cast from alloy with solf yellow of bronze. In the late 19th/20th century the material was majorly brass. Modern reproductions are plenty in market. And they are not to be condemned as long as they are being offered at price corresponding to their true value and specified with accurate date of production. They are fakes as soon as their asking price represents those of old originals. OPIUM-GEWICHTE. RARE OLD BRONZE SUPAYALAT LAST QUEEN OF BURMA STATUE
I have compiled a wealth of uniq I have compiled a wealth of unique treasures. Antiques and artworks from Asia with a fantastic and mysterious history from travels, China, Japan, Bali, Tibet, Burma/Myanmar, Cambodia, Taiwan, Philippines, Laos and Vietnam. My fascination with Asia inspired me to move here from England and become an avid collector/buyer of Asian oriental antique statues. Carvings, puppets, bronzes and unique objects, other items have been from years of collecting and accumulating from estates, private collections and auctions. RARE BRONZE SUPAYALAT LAST QUEEN OF BURMA STATUE King Mindon the father of King Thibaw also up for auction this week(see photo above) the last Myanmar King- reigned from 1853 to 1878. Both pieces date from the late 19th century. When in 1858 the foundations of the Mandalay Palace wall were laid. Three carefully selected persons had been buried alive under each gate-house, and one at each corner of the wall. Four more were entombed under the Lion Throne, and yet others at strategic points, scattered throughout the fortress. The grand total was fifty-two, a figure considered by the Board of Astrologers to err on the side of parsimony. They were taken from all walks of life, and included the pregnant woman, indispensable to the composition of a satisfactory foundation-sacrifice. Burma’s Queen Supayalat was a ruler to be feared and revered. Who among other appalling acts of cruelty ordered that between 80 and 100 of her husband’s relatives be murdered in ways said to include the dashing of children against walls. Because the massacre or"clearing" As it was called was intended to destroy all potential rivals to the throne. She was the last queen of Burma. Supayalat was born in 1859. Or 1860: both dates are used. She was the middle daughter of Sinpyumashin, widow to Mindon, whose son Thibaw was Burma’s last king, her

3 Nepal Brass Lion, Elephant Locks with tail as loop rare Unique
to see all my listed items Welcome! Well. This is my EIGHTH year as an Ebay seller. It is hard to believe that so much time and so many of my goods have reached your collections from my years of collected goods. It is a lot of work to haul these goods out from the boxes and scan. Photograph and prepare them for sale, but harder to let go things that have taken me all these years in Asia to accumulate. At least I will be able to have had the pleasure to gather them over the years and cherish the memories associated with their finding. I hope that all of you have been pleased with over 3200 on my feedback. Now I will offer some special lots that I did not want to let go of at first. Hope you all can find some nice things for all of your treasured collections. This is a UNIQUE Classical Nepalese Animal LOCK( LION) made more than 30 years ago ... morein Nepal. It has a PERFECT patina. And was acquired from a village near where I worked in 1978. This very old piece has beautiful patina. Is uncleaned. You will not find anything like this again. These are all about 5.5 cm( 2.2 inches) long. 4 cm( 1.5 inches) tall at the hoop and. 1 cm( 4 inches) thick and weigh 60 grams. The patina is perfect and uncleaned. These are exceptionally beautiful and solid pieces of handcrafting. The lock works by shoving the key in the front of the lock and pushing until the tail piece comes out making it able to be put in the lock loos of a door or cabinet. Neat work from many travels in South and SE Asia! No one else will get anything like this.

ANTIQUE BRONZE BURMESE 'HINTHA' BIRD OPIUM WEIGHT, Circa: early 1900's. Lot 40
BURMA. CAMBODIA. CHINA. INDIA. INDONESIA. JAPAN. KOREA. LANKA. LAO. THAILAND. TIBET. Antique Bronze Burmese'Hintha' Bird Opium Weight. Circa: early 1900's. Overview: The Burmese mythical bird'Hintha' also known as Hamsa. Is an aquatic bird ofter considered to be a duck, goose, or sometimes a swan, which inhabited the Himalaya Forest of southern Burma, and was considered by Burmese to be a sacred animal symbolic of purity, divine knowledge and cosmic breath. XXX The mountain tribes of the Golden Triangle Region. Burma, Lao, and Thailand, originally intended the use of these miniature animal figures to weigh'opium' during the 18th-19th centuries, a time when the forbidden Opium trade was flourishing in such occupied territories which straddled the Thai-Burmese border. XXX The phrase'Opium Weight' used to ... moredescribe the small. Curious-looking metal animal and bird figures is somewhat misleading- while the weights actually serve a much wider, more useful purpose; they were used to gauge the weight of daily items of commerce found in the Burmese market-place, such as food, raw materials, spices, musk, gemstone, metal, both ordinary and precious, and expensive medicine, all of which were sold in quanities determined by these weights. Items were measured by a beam hung with two baskets or trays, the correct weight was placed in one basket and the other basket filled with the desired material until the two baskets balanced. Description: The Hintha Bird: Boldly modelled in the shape of a small ground pecking fowl. Seated on a round base, rising to a small plinth indicated by relief, delicately detailed with closely fitted wings and tail plumage, bulging eyes, pointed beak, and crested headdress. Solid bronze cast with smooth naturally aged brown patina, with traces of green malachite oxidation. DISPLAY PEDESTAL IS NOT INCLUDED IN THIS AUCTION. Large Cinnabar Burmese Kwet Bowl late 19th/early 20th Century
Large Cinnabar Lacquer Burmese Kwet Bowl c.1900 The cinnabar lacquer covering this late 19th/early 20th century Burmese“kwet. or serving bowl, is satin smooth and cool to the touch. Condition: This large bowl is in very good condition with some minor wear to the extremities which makes for a phenomenal patina. It's very sturdy. Dimensions: diameter 15“38.2 cm) Height 6” 16.2 cm) Weight: 1 pound. 3.2 ounces Back Story: Years of daily use have enhanced both the look and feel of this large bowl. With black lacquer showing through the red in areas of wear. Six black ribs curve down to the feet, and the top is curved and rolled inward, giving the vessel beautiful balance. The old Burmese process of producing such lacquer pieces was labor intensive and time consuming. Woven and coiled bamboo that forms the base of the bowl was coated with a ... morepaste made of finely ground clay and lacquer, then placed underground to dry for about a week. The piece was then polished and a second coat of finer material made from sifted teak sawdust and lacquer was applied, dried and polished. The same process was then repeated with successive coatings of even finer material made from ground bone or ash mixed with lacquer. Finally, many weeks later, when the surface was totally smooth, finishing coats of lacquer were applied. Surviving pieces from a time when artisans practiced such skills become more beautiful with use as the top coats of cinnabar-colored lacquer wear through in places to show the black lacquer undercoating. 1900's KHMER SILVER ELEPHANT BOX ~~ REPOUSSE ~~ PRE- POL POT CAMBODIAN
This is the genuine thing. I know because I am the one who bought it in Phnom Penh. Cambodia in 1997 on my first visit there. I kept the card of the shop inside the box all these years and have photographed it in picture#8. This Elephant Box has a history all its own we will never know. Being either well hidden or more likely buried during the Pol-Pot regime when all artistry and icons were destroyed or melted down. It weighs 8.7 ounces(245 grams) During the early to mid 1900's the norm in Khmer silver work was to use between 75 and 85% silver mixed with copper. The softer the metal the more copper and easier it is to work with. This piece is not soft but very solid. Very thick. The Silver Shop, 16 years ago, told me it was 85% silver. Silver was not $25 an ounce back then. How long it took to make this piece or if the Cambodian artist ... morewas more skilled than his counterparts I do not know. I can tell you there aren't many of these left and that this one is a stunning piece of detailed craftmanship. Sadly the Khmer who created it is long past and only his works survive. I am going to list several different boxes I bought while living in Southeast Asia but this is the only Elephant box I have. They are quite rare especially one of this detail. Please look at the photos using the magnifier and if you have any questions please write me. Thank you. Warren Below the explanation of repousse I have put my shipping info. Repoussé or repoussage is a technique in which a is ornamented or shaped by from the reverse side to create a design in. Chasing is the opposite technique to repoussé. And the two are used in conjunction to create a finished piece. It is also known as embossing. While repoussé is used to work on the reverse of the metal to form a raised design on the front. Chasing is used to refine the design on the front of the work by sinking the metal. The term chasing is derived from the noun"chase" which refers to a groove, furrow, channel or indentation. The adjectival form is"c
BURMESE SILVER BOX SIGNED - 19TH CENTURY - EXQUISITE WORKMANSHIP
This is a box I bought in Burma back in 1997. During that time the country highly restricted tourism and so there were still antique Burmese handcrafted silver boxes available. This one is estimated to be early 1900's. I made the decision to clean it. It took me three hours but I took off over a 100 years of tarnish and dirt. This is now how it looked the day it was crafted. See the final four photos for comparison before and after. The dimensions when closed: 2 3/4 inches in length. 2 inches in width, 2 1/2 inches in height. The weight: 5.6 ounces or 160 grams. Silver content said to be 90% I'm listing six boxes I bought during the late 1990's in Burma and Cambodia so please check them all out and compare. I'm going to start the bidding for this piece at the price of the silver content alone plus $25 for what Ebay and PayPal ... morecharge me. I'll let all of you decide what the age and workmanship are worth. Thank you, Warren. I will ship Priority Mail with tracking and adult signature required. This is too valuable a piece to ship any other way.

Antique Gold Leaf Hsun-ok pagoda guardian lion lacquerware Buddhist Burmese Asia
Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE 14.00 ANTIQUE Gold-Leaf- HSUN-OK- With tray& ashtray set I just got this exquise piece from an antique market so If some details are missing or the set is unclear or it’s not the right description. Please let us know as we will make the correction. As we list all kind of different items, please see the pictures. We had tried our best for the pictures but somehow sometime it’s not perfect, sometime the light was difficult to catch, also some reflections. The antique set of hsun-ok with tray and ashtray that you see on picture is really the one on this auction. So yes I had to do some research to see what it was and first I thought it was an opium paraphernalia set but with time i realised it was for ... moresure coming from Asia. Probably from Birma or Thailand because of the lion similar to the burmese temple-pagoda guardian lion. So finally I realised it was similar to the HSUN-OK After I went to an official jeweler and he told me it is gold-leaf on lacquerware. So I was happy of my found and I came back home to find more about this scarce item. The antiquarian told me it was coming from a King in Asia and after that man came in Canada and worked as a doctor in Montreal. He kept that collectable in his big house until he pass away at the age of 96. So I don’t know more about the history of this collectable. Probably from the 1890-1900. This very desirable and rare set of gold-leaf lacquerware pagoda bowl tray& ashtray is absolutely wonderful and would fit in any showroom of the world. Believe me. Dimensions: pagoda is 9'3/4 height.
