Rand McNally did not update their city maps every year in the Business Atlas, so this genuine dated 1892 map was in the 1895 edition. The map measures 14 X 20 inches. Map shows all transportation lines. Both steam and street railroads, their routes, stations, depots, along with other major points of interest as it was in 1892. Second scan shows the copyright date. Printed on quality paper which retains its inherent structural flexibility and soundness. One of the primary ways in which the American public followed the Civil War was in illustrated newspapers. Harpers Weekly had numerous artists on their staff. Stationed around the country. On a weekly basis these artists created memorable pictorial images capturing key events, location and people. Variation 2 or Johnson Map Project number JMP-155-2.0. This particular map is pages 35 and 36. The map measures approximately 26 5/8" x 18 1/8" A lot of the edging is torn and discolored, and the borders are damaged; however the page numbers are not. There are also some water stains. The map is laying on a white foam board but is not connected to the form board. It is held in place with plastic. This is a great Civil War Era antique! Along with the border line between infected and infection-free areas, printed more than 130 years ago. The map was published in Report of the Commissioner of Agriculture for the Year 1883 and was compiled by Daniel Elmer Salmon. America's first DVM. The image area measures 21.3 x 31.1 cm[8-1/2" x 12-1/4" and the scan below shows the title and legend key: Dr. Salmon. Who earned the first doctorate in veterinary medicine awarded in the United States, spent his career studying animal diseases for the U.S. Department of Agriculture. He gave his name to the Salmonella genus of bacteria. This map. Which is titled Texas Fever in ... moreVirginia.
