1862 RICHMOND VIRGINIA PENINSULAR CAMPAIGN Map JOHNSON ATLAS CIVIL WAR
An ORIGINAL antique 1868 map of the 1862 PENINSULAR CAMPAIGN from JOHNSON'S New Illustrated FAMILY ATLAS. First published in the 1862 Johnson Atlas it was still being published in the 1868 edition with the original 1862 copyright date along the lower border. In intricate detail the map shows McClellan's failed attempt to take Richmond early in the War. The counties are individually hand water colored and a number of early railroads are shown with their names printed next to them. What makes Johnson's maps so desirable is that although many maps from this time period showed railroad routes. His also show major stagecoach and wagon roads. This map shows hundreds of these roads. Note also that all examples of this map have extremely narrow borders as originally issued. Among the finest maps produced during the 19th Century. Johnson's ... moremaps were used extensively during the Civil War. The map measures 26 by 18 inches and is perfect for matting and framing. CW Map of Richmond and Peninsular Campaign in VA 1862 by Johnson and Ward 18x27"
This is a Civil War era map of the vicinity of Richmond and the Peninsular Campaign in Virginia. It was compiled from official maps of the war department by Johnson and Ward and entered into congressional records in 1862. It was once part of an Atlas of maps and has a center seam where it looks properly'hinged' together. The pages are well matched and it folds easily. This obviously is not framed but would be a good candidate for doing so. The last picture shows the back which is an index. Its' in really good condition for a map that's 150 years old. Both Richmond and Petersburg are shown near the left side. The peninsula and the York and James Rivers are on the right. Or Best Offer' means we're not offended by offers.
