Virginia& Vicinity and Pittsburgh, PA& Vicinity. The map has specific details to it and shows various attributes- different road surfaces. Buildings, barnes, greenhouses, railroads, national boundaries, State boundaries, towns, woods, vineyards, marshes, mine tunnels, steep slopes, tunnels, bridges, etc. Map is generally in Good condition. It has been stored in a roll for many years. So it naturally rolls up now. The map has some wear and browning. There are some creases and tears around the edges of the paper and other stains along the edges. It is"crumpled" along the top edge. There are other creases and dings here and there. As well. So we don't know the issue date, but as stated, the copyright date on the map is 1876. Mingo Co. has not yet been split off from Logan Co. CONDITION: Very Good of better map in separated boards. Boards split at the left edge and with minor wear to the extremities. Old inked name inside the front board. Map slightly age-yellowed. Edges with slight wear, and bottom right corner creased in the margin. Line of tiny dots outside the mid left border. The map is crisp and sturdy, the folds are intact, and the linen backing is in good shape. There are no condition issues of any consequence aside from the split back of the folder. This is an 1871 engraved map of Virginia. West Virginia, North& South Carolina, Southern part of Florida, with insets of the environs of Richmond& Charleston. It measures 12.5 X 17 inches. Published by T. Edward Zell. Philadelphia. Map was engraved by J. Bartholomew. For history of the famous Bartholomew maps, see last paragraph below. We are unable to find many of these maps in the major dealers sites. The ones we did find had prices of $200- $500 and up and were not in as good a condition as this map. Be my guest. Go look for yourself. Paper shows minor age spots. Normal on most maps this age due to paper content. We have shown in the scans of the map and close ups to get a great idea of the beauty of the gentle hand coloring and detailed engraving.
