There is an inscription in the middle of the Bible that reads: This Bible was presented to my son L. P. Hillgardner upon his 21st birthday. October 25, 1877. Valantin Hillgardner. The front pages of the Bible have come loose from the binding an show some creases. Soiling, wear. This Bible is very fragile and has been well used over the years. The genealogy pages have been filled in fairly extensively for this family. The"Familien Register" has dates starting in 1858- some entries are written in English and some are in German? On the page listing births. There is a note that reads: Born to us a boy& girl in the light of the moon when the moon was on the ... moreincrease. In 1892 during the building of this bridge 31 people died when the structure collapsed. The bridge was completed at the end of that year and was called the 11th Street Bridge. In 1914 the bridge was closed due to Structural concerns. The bridge was repaired and reopened in 1915 as The Short Way Bridge. In 1986 the State bought the bridge and removed the toll booths.
