Blank on the reverse with the exception of area and population figures(by county) from the 11th Census of 1890. Total Population in Kentucky was 1.767,518; and in Tennessee it was 1.858,635. These are two large 1892 Railroad Map of Kentucky and Tennessee. They measures 25 X 17 inches. One shows the Western part and the other the Eastern part. They are genuine. Not a copies or reprints. They may have a few minor handling flaws as to be expected in maps this age and large. Maps were taken from the Cram's Railway Atlas which is near impossible to find and very expensive when found. TENNESSEE, SOUTH DAKOTA AND FLORIDA FULL COLOR MAPS. These maps are from a very rare 1892 atlas entitled"Cram's Unrivaled Atlas of the World, Indexed" published by S. L. Bradley, 415 Dearborn Street, Chicago. This is a Grand New Census and World's Fair Edition. Maps are full color- very attractive and interesting! This map has 4 full pages; 2 pages are Kentucky and Tennessee(scale of 1 inch equals about 24 miles) On the flip side of one page is South Dakoda(scale 1 inch equals about 32 miles) and on the flip side of the other page is Florida(scale 1 inch equals about 35 miles) Pages are large, being either 14 1/2" x 10 3/4" or 11 5/8 x ... more14 1/2" with viewing area being approximately 12” x 9” a little more or a little less) on most of the maps. Each map has at least one edge that is not 100% razor straight where it was taken out of the binding mounted in the atlas. The larger pages have tiny perforations(see picture) along the binding edge where it was bound with cord. All pages are slightly yellowed from age but map colors are bright and clear. Maps may have small dog-eared corners or tiny pieces of corners missing. See individual pictures. One of these pages has a small tear about 1/4 inch long in the margin. There are also some light smudges in the margins. On the Florida side, there are some smudges on the map- again, very light. Every map has an atlas page number in one margin. What appears to be a lighter area on the map is from camera flash. Please contact seller if you have any questions or need a more detailed description of a particular map. The counties are individually hand water colored and a number of early railroads are shown with their names printed next to them. Two engraved vignettes show the STATE HOUSE NASHVILLE and ENTRANCE TO THE MAMMOTH CAVE. What makes Johnson's maps so desirable is that although many maps from this time period showed railroad routes. His also show major stagecoach and wagon roads. This map shows hundreds of these roads. Among the finest maps produced during the 19th Century.
