French Bronze Animalier Sculpture Christophe Fratin dog cold painted Austrian
This bronze is in the manner of Christophe Fratin(1801- 1864) Well known French animal sculptor. Reason for stating'manner of' is because I have not been able to find exact bronze sale record even though it a ppears to be a 19th century casting and subject is common to the artist. Last photo shows a monkey bronze by Fratin with many common elements such as a larger and smaller animal. Basket on the back, lantern, stick in the hand. Larger dog is wearing aristocrat jacket/ shirt and is Bronze offered for sale may have been a study as it is made of many pieces and was not cast at once. Bronze is not visibly marked. There is an area along the border shown in the next to the last where it looks like it could be a signature. ANTIQUE FRENCH STYLE ENAMEL CUSPIDOR / FLOWER VASE-SIGNED-LATE 19th CENTURY
This pretty enamel piece measures 7" 17.8 cm) in height. 7" in diameter at the mouth and 5 1/4" 13.4 cm) in diameter at the base. For a piece of enamel the condition is pristine. It is a pretty, deeper blue, with hand-painted in gold rose with bud designs, a 1 inch band encircling the top, and 10 smaller thin bands. There are two sets of initials on one side between the main designs, and a five letter mark opposite the initials. All the marks are made with a stippling design. The interior and exterior are pretty much perfect. There are few tiny places under the upper rim and on the base rim where there is loss of enamel. It was probably made for use as a cuspidor, It would also make a great flower vase. The provenance of the piece explains it's great condition. I purchased it from a dealer who was featured on the cover ... morewith an article in the 1990s"Country Living" in Adamstown, Pennsylvania. He had inherited a warehouse of unused enamel from his grandparents, who had purchased a large amount of enamel pieces in the early 1900s to open a shop, but never did. Best PAIR 18th Century French Candlesticks Brass Bronze This is a great pair of 18th century candlesticks that I believe are French. It is hard to find great candlesticks like these in pairs and even harder to find them complete including the removable Bobochet. These candlesticks are made as a pair- as shown. They are marked number"1" and"2" The bases are sand cast and turned and decorated, and the stems are seamed and heavy cast in two pieces. The candlesticks measure 6 1/2 inches tall and 4 1/2 inches across the base. They are in great as-found condition. I have not polished these but I did gently remove some wax. Under the wax is some green staining that I do not believe is a light surface discoloration and can easily be cleaned off if desired. Vintage Cast Iron Doorstop Beautiful Colorful Flowers French Basket By Hubley For Your Antique Cast Iron Doorstop Collection Details Description: An antique cast iron doorstop cast in the form of a tall wicker basket having a braided handle with a bow on top. The basket is full of colorful flowers. The flowers are colored in red. Pink, gray, and blue. The entire piece still retains most of its original paint with minimum losses on the high points of the flowers. The gold colored basket has a black semispherical shaped base. It has a looped handle showing a braided branch design on top with a bow above it all. The back is colored in a gold color. Just a beautiful piece. See page 62 in John and Nancy Smith's book"The Doorstop Book: An Encyclopedia of Doorstop Collecting Published by Schiffer Books of Atglen, PA in 2006 for a similar ... moreexample. The piece is also shown in Jeanne Bertoia's Book"Doorstops: Identification& Values" Published by Collector Books of Paducah, KY in 1985 for a similar doorstop. Both references call the door stop French basket and give it dimensions of 11" and 6 3/4" and indicate the doorstop was made by Hubley. This particular doorstop is a bit smaller in dimensions measuring only 10 3/4" and 6 3/8" which could be an indication that this piece is a vintage reproduction. Please carefully review the photos as they are part and parcel of the description. Date: Uncertain but most likely early to mid 20th century. Origin: Purchased at an estate auction in Southeastern. Pennsylvania, USA. Size: Measures ~10 3/4" in height. ~6 3/8" at its widest, and the base measures ~5 1/2" by and ~2 1/8" The doorstop weighs over 4 pounds and 10 ounces.
