Quite heavy for its size. It weighs in at about 1 and a quarter pounds. We don't see any markings. So we don't know its age, metal content or region of origin. It was already quite old when the current owner purchased it years ago. Black metal with what we believe to be silver plating, which is quite prominent and visible inside and on the bottom, but extensively worn on the sides and almost completely worn on top. Lid features an ornate country scene in high relief. A man ... moreand woman rest under a tree. His arm around her, it looks like she's blowing on a little flute. While he fingers the notes. A peaceful animal stands nearby(could be a sheep or woolly coated dog- I can't tell which) Near what looks like the doorway of a rustic building. Sides feature ornate design of scrolls. Columns and vines. Very good antique condition. Just the aforementioned wear to the plating. In accordance with its age and use, and a small area near the bottom edge that is slightly discolored. Metal Jewelry Box / Casket with Gold Finish and Original Lining - 1890s-1920s
Thank you for looking into our auction of an Antique Cast Metal Jewelry Box/ Casket with its Original Lining. We aren't certain how old this box is. But we believe it is probably made between the 1890s and 1920s. It is a heavy box with flowers on the hinged top and on the four sides of the box. The box stands on four feet that are cast into the box. The lining of the box is a gay fabric that looks like a gauze fabric, with a cord at the edges of the lining. The golden color is especially nice on the bottom of the box, and there is a dogwood-like flower cast into the bottom. Instant collection. Here are three antique jewelry boxes in the Art Nouveau style popular 1900-1925. Each is oval shaped top and bottom. With embellished floral engravings, a gilded color and delicate feet. They have the original coating, with the patina and wear marks appropriate to their age. Sold as a trio of three boxes. Box 1- Identified with green star in the photos. This is the largest of the three. It is 3.5 inches wide at its widest point and 3 inches high. It stands on four feet. Shinier than the others. It has beautiful flowers on the top and the front. No maker's mark on the bottom. The interior lining is a pale yellow silk, which appears to be original and deteriorated. There is a rough edge on the rim of the box in the front- barely visible when the box is closed. Weight: 8 ounces. Hinge in good condition. Box 2- Blue star. ... morePink lining. About 2.5 inches wide and 2 inches tall. Marked B&W on the bottom. It has three feet. Weighs five ounces. Hinge is in working order but the pin is protruding on one side. Box 3- Yellow star. I AM NOT AN EXPERT ON JENNINGS BROTHERS MEMORABILIA. I RESEARCHED THE COMPANY AND FOUND THAT- THE JENNINGS BROTHERS METAL FOUNDRY was opened by three Jennings Brothers in 1890 in Bridgeport. CT. Their offices started in two small wood buildings and their foundery in a brick building. Ultimately, they expanded to a larger factory building which was located on Elm Street in Bridgeport. They specialized in metal art and maintained a staff of artists and sculptors to craft their metal art objects(Nouveau" metal art) which included clocks, bookends, statues, metal cases, candelabras and some silver-plated utensils. Their original items were signed with the initials"JB" on each piece. The company went out of business over sixty years ago. And vintage J.B. pieces are highly sought after by collectors. Presented for your consideration is this wonderful ART DECO style metal jewelry casket. The design is classic Deco with a distinct Egyptian Revival influence. My thought is that it dates to the first quarter of the twentieth century around the time of the discovery of King Tut's tomb in 1922. I believe it is made of brass with a bronze finish since the box is fairly light in weight. There are no indications of a maker. This piece measures 1 3/4" high. 5 1/4" long and 4" deep. The interior is lined in the original red velvet. The box is in very good estate condition with no damage, significant wear or restoration noted. It should be welcome in any collection! The box could be locked, but unfortunately the key is lost. The box is decorated with 5 beautiful pictures, which I guess are the Dutch painters. It has a weight of 500 grams and dimensions 205x125x95mm/8.1x4.9x3.7 inches. The box bears the traces of time, but this is an excellent item for collectors and antiquarians. ANTIQUE METAL JENNINGS BROS. ORNATE VICTORIAN JEWELRY CASKET RARE TINY SIZE- This auction is for an Antique Jennings Brothers gold metal jewelry casket in a rare tiny size. It has an ornate design of puffy flowers and leaves and stands on four tiny feet. Even the bottom is embossed with flowers and leaves. The original cloth lining is still inside. It measures 1 1/2" tall by 2" across by 1 1/2" deep. There is one manufacturing line on the lid and a few discolored spots but other than that it is in excellent condition.
