Very Ornate with Scrolling Leaf ... moreDesigns and Turning Swirls. Both with 5 candle holding arms. Very attractive pair of early Wall Sconces or Candelabras. No markings found. One sconce still has the gold gilt leaf on the wall mount and on the scalloped candle arms holder. The other one is still showing mostly silver paint which has been on for a long time and has the Gold Gilt Leaf showing through the silver paint. No damage or repairs on either one. I believe they could be solid bronze but can't guarantee it. There are two top candle drip pieces that screw off and were stripped years ago showing the old solid bronze metal(Pic. 5- 8) It also shows through in different areas on both sconces. All 10 top 2 piece drip plates unscrew off for easy cleaning. These were bought out of an old Hotel which was being torn down. The two Candelabras were mounted on the sides of an old Marble Top Fire Place Mantel. They are complete and ready for mounting. One has the two original wall mounting brackets and the other one has only the one(Pic. 11& 12) These will be beautiful if refinished. They are also beautiful in the condition they are presently in. Entirely up to the buyer. This is a very useful set and would look lovely in a restored Victorian Home. Please see all pictures and ask any questions. Be sure to use close up. I am not an expert on Guilted Bronze Items but these appear to me as Bronze but I can't guarantee it. So, be sure to ask me any questions before bidding. At first I thought they were cast iron but now I am not sure. With the two top pieces stripped and definitely being either brass or bronze and seeing a brassy/bronze metal look under the layers of old patina and paint. They could be bronze. This is a piece that was built to last with strong and heavy construction throughout. The crest is an ornate and complicated carving of flowing ribbon tied in a double-bow and interlaced with flowers that sprout over and along the frame, likewise carved carefully with a large twisted rope molding lined by a small twisted rope border. The arms flow down into curved handholds, the arm supports terminating in the frame with acanthus leaves sprouting up along the edges. These arms flank a deep and very comfortable down upholstered cushion, thick and very supportive, complimenting the overall cant of the chair- by leaning just slightly backwards. These are not electrified and are meant to hold 4 candles in each candelabra. In the style of Louis XV. These candelabra are heavily adorned with rams heads, floral garlands and swags, flowers and acanthus leaves. The 4 footed base is topped with an urn which supports a central tall stem ending in a candle nozzle shaped like a lily. The center stem is surrounded by three lower candle nozzles also shaped like flowers on foliate arms as well as decorative flowers(some with stamens) stems and leaves. Condition issues: Of the 8 total candle nozzles. 7 have a removable bobeche but one is missing that rim. Some of the flowers may be missing their original centers. ... moreOne end of one floral garland swag has shifted from its original location in a ram's mouth to the ram's neck. The candelabra are very dusty and there is some wax candle residue in spots. Overall, however, these are in pretty remarkable condition considering their age. Louis XV XVI Style 1850-1899 - Pair 3-Branch Candle holders - Candleabra
Pair Large Brass Three-branch Candle Holders Late 19th Century You are bidding on a charming pair of three branch candle holders designed in an exuberant late 19th century interpretation of 18th century styles. The pair is most likely Continental in origin-my guess would be French. Neither candlestick is marked. Because of their height and narrow size they'd be perfect on a mantle. The base is designed in what I would call a Louis XV shape surmounted by Louis XVI style garlands. The central support is a quiver with arrows in the Louis XVI style with side arabesques. The bobeches. Or disks beneath the candle sockets, have what I would call an Empire exoticism of tropical foliage. The three bobeche on each holder are pierced in 6 places to accommodate prisms or drops. I once tried them with prisms and I felt they took away from the design ... moreof the candlesticks. But the option is available. The holes are noticeable only on close inspection. The backs of the sticks are decorated so that they could readily stand in front of a mirror and display a simply designed reverse. They are both approximately 14.5" tall with a width of approximately 2.5" at the base and 9.75" at the widest point of the bobeches. I believe they are brass and there may be some very old traces or an original gilt finish in places. All photos were taken in strong natural daylight. I try to be very precise with my condition reports so that you know exactly what you are bidding for. There is no significant damage or loss to the pieces- just the few dings and scratches expected on metalwork dating back over a century. These were handmade items that were cast and assembled so the measurements on the two pieces are not always identical. The front of the bases have a separate grill feature and one of the pierced grills is very slightly off center- a condition most likely occurring when the pieces were assembled.
