Up for sale is what appears to be a Bradley& Hubbard Letter Holder with an Angel/Cherub Theme. It has a shiny gilt brass finish. It is designed with latticework and cherubs in a design that I think could be described as Art Nouveau as well as Victorian. I am unsure as it it's exact age but I estimate it to be from the late 1800's or early 1900's. It is in very good vintage condition. The Item is a"Letter Opener" and it is done in one of Tiffany's most desirable Desk set patterns known as"Zodiac" The Letter opener is 10 1/2" wide or long by 5/16" tall or thick and 7/8" deep at its deepest part which is the Handle end. The Letter Opener Displays a brown with highlights of green patina. There are Zodiac signs on each side of the handle. One side is showing a Scorpion for the sign"Scorpio" and the other side is showing the Scales for the sign"Libra" The letter opener shows signs of use. The Patina shows wear as you can see areas of the copper plating under the Brown/Green Patina. The Letter Opener is considered to be in very good condition as there are no cracks. Beautifully ornate filigree design and a Very Heavy duty piece. All screws are original& present. Front panel a little loose, and light surface rust; otherwise sturdy and functional. Antique bronze letter opener set by A. Sadoux with box
This 4 piece bronze letter opener set is made of bronze and designed and signed by sculptor A. Sadoux. The design is in the style of the French Aesthetic period(1880– 1901) Which is when Sadoux was active. The set consists of a large and smaller letter opener, a small tray and a wax seal. The small tray has been used and has some signs of it, there is some darkening of the patina and some areas are lighter, most likely from regular cleaning. All four piece come in a leatherette covered box with two closures. Measurements are: openers are 10 ¼" and 9 ¼" Tray is 4 ½" square and wax seal is 3 ½" long and 1" diameter. The wax seal has no monogram. Condition of bronze items is as mentioned, the box has some damage: the outside has visible abrasions and the inside silk is worn on the hinge.

Here is an exceptional piece of art nouveau metalware found at an estate auction. This is a letter rack(we still do get letters. Don't we? but could be used to hold anything(CD's? photos? napkins? vertically. This desk accessory is made of bronze( and is very nouveau in design: fluid lines, flowing tendrils, organic elements. The rack is divided into two sections by the graceful handle. The inside floor is also highly decorative. Condition is very good, no damage is noted other than what gentle time has accomplished. This piece shows very minimal wear on the inside bottom. There is some polish residue in some of the grooves. The wear on the inside cannot be seen unless you are looking directly into the compartments. The piece is signed on the bottom with"Tiffany Studios New York" Impressed Mark along with the Pattern Number 1186 for the 2 tier Letter Rack shape. There are also the numbers"8366" and"8355" with a line drawn through it like it was an error. This is more than likely the order number and I believe that to be number 8366. Tiffany started using a 3 digit number for his Fancy Desk Set goods after 1902 subsequently this piece was made circa 1905-1920. This is a quality and hard to find item in the Tiffany Desk Set Items. This is a wonderfully ornate c. 1885 letter holder made by the quality firm of Bradley and Hubbard of Meriden. CT. The pattern reminds me of a graceful and delicate butterfly in flight, which is remarkable considering that it is made of heavy cast iron. It measures 9 1/2" wide. About 7" tall and 5 1/2" deep. There is wear to the brass finish- as you would expect from a piece 128 years old-but no dents or damage. This letter holder could easily double as an exquisite napkin holder.
