Quite heavy for its size. It weighs in at about 1 and a quarter pounds. We don't see any markings. So we don't know its age, metal content or region of origin. It was already quite old when the current owner purchased it years ago. Black metal with what we believe to be silver plating, which is quite prominent and visible inside and on the bottom, but extensively worn on the sides and almost completely worn on top. Lid features an ornate country scene in high relief. A man ... moreand woman rest under a tree. His arm around her, it looks like she's blowing on a little flute. While he fingers the notes. A peaceful animal stands nearby(could be a sheep or woolly coated dog- I can't tell which) Near what looks like the doorway of a rustic building. Sides feature ornate design of scrolls. Columns and vines. Very good antique condition. Just the aforementioned wear to the plating. In accordance with its age and use, and a small area near the bottom edge that is slightly discolored. This listing is for a set of Victorian/Art Nouveau style metal candle holders in a tarnished brass color. They are a beautiful design with lots of scrolling and what look like large Trumpet Lilies. The seperate part of acanthus leaves that flare out from the neck can be removed by unscrewing the top piece(photo 4) There is an insert for narrow candles(photo 5) that comes out giving you 2 sizes of candles that can be used. It's like having 2 for 1! There are also tiny holes in every other leaf to hang crystals. The candle holders are heavy. Well made pieces that are in excellent condition. Up for auction is an antique Iron Art bronzed cast metal casket style trinket box. It depicts the famous Battle of Lyndanisse during the northern crusades by the Danes. Here is the history behind the battle. Or you can skip to the next paragraph for the description of the box. In 1219, Valdemar II of Denmark continued the Danish conquest of the German Baltic Islands begun by his brother, Canute VI. At the Battle of Lyndanisse, near Reval, the Danes were battling the pagan Estonians. Weary and facing defeat, a critical turning point in the battle came when a red and white banner came in to the possession of Valdemar. Legend says the banner fell from the sky following a crash of thunder, landing in the arms of an archbishop, who heard a voice saying“When you raise this banner against your enemies they will yield before you” A messenger was ... moresent to King Valdemar with the banner and communication. The King held it high over the troops, and this divine approval encouraged the Danes to victory. Rallying under this new banner, which went on to become the national flag of Denmark, the Danes threw back the Germans and went on to seize all of Estonia. This flag, called Dannebrog, or“Danish Cloth” is the oldest flag in the world still in use and has been adopted by other Nordic countries. A fine antique or vintage socket candle holder(my mom has had for over 40 years and always said it was old) Very detailed. Very ornate candelabra. Overall very good condition.
