Bronze Art Nouveau Match Holder
Fantastic. Near copper color patina on this piece. The front and rear panels have an Art Nouveau tree design. It is in excellent condition with minimal wear. Height is 4 1/2 inches(11.4 cm) MB1-11. My scale computes ... moreto the nearest gram and it has been tested and calibrated. A note to silver scrappers: There are those on Ebay who will claim that the weight of an object is less than advertised and demand a rebate after the auction has ended. This is an ongoing trend and these individuals seem to complain if silver prices go down between the day they buy and the day they receive. When one melts silver one can lose as much as 5% of the weight in the smelting process and I can not be held responsible for weight lost after melting. I do not generally melt anything that is well made as it makes little sense to me. So any potential loss should be considered before purchasing my items. All my items are measured with a standard tape measure and are rounded off to the quarter inch. I attempt to be as accurate as possible. But odd surfaces can prove difficult sometimes as I lack a pair of calipers. With over a thousand items in my store. Errors do occur, albeit infrequently. The match holder has a cast iron tray with gold colored stars(some were covered with the black paint) lined in the front above stripes(mimics the American flag) The tray is riveted to a back plate having the image of a spread eagle. The eagle is well cast and shows very nice details. Such as the feathers, the talons, and the beak. This is a real nice vintage reproduction of the old pieces, which are becoming rarer and rarer. Normally the old pieces would have a hole between the eagles legs to hang it from. This piece has no holes to hang from, so you would have to use hails under the wings ... moreto hang it from. The ornate Match holder is decorated with winged fairies or Cherub Putti figures. It is decorated the same on both sides. There is a Cherub in the center smoking a pipe and two more in the top corners and ornate raised wave like scrolls bordering the sides and base of the match holder. There is a raised initial K at the center top. The bottom of the ashtray is signed for M. LOEWENSTEIN NEW YORK with a Patent date of May 1900. The base is approx. 5" in diameter with three large cigar or cigarette rests. Total height is approx 5 1/2" This heavy antique Bronze match holder weighs 1 pound 4 ounces. The match holder has a cup cast in the form of the Devil's head. The devil's head shows horns. A pointed nose, and an open mouth. The cup is painted in orange coloring with black highlight. The match holder has cast foliate design as background colored in black. The match holder has the striker on the sides of the devil's head. There is a black non ferrous metal(does not stick to a magnet) plate used as a back cover to the cup. This is secured in place with a ferrous pin that is attached to the cast iron piece and bent to keep the plate in place. The piece is well cast and shows ... morevery nice details, such as the eyes, nose, mouth and horns. The piece retains most of original paint and is just great and unusual looking. Antique Cast Iron Bradley & Hubbard Reclining Camel ash tray and match holder
This piece is not marked. But Bradley& Hubbard was known to have made them. This item is probably circa 1900 to 1920. The figural reclining camel is cast iron and still retains some of the original brown paint. The match holder is brass but now has an old patina to it. I have never cleaned this piece during the time I have owned it, meaning it has been cleaned of course but the finish has never been tampered with. This could have been an ash tray or could hold a pipe. The detail from the molding is crisp and detailed. In excellent antique condition. The length and width is 7 inches by 5 1/4 inches and 3 inches to the top of the urn. A wonderful old piece. Please pay within 3 days of auction ending. Vintage Brass Bronze Cherub Angel Decorated Wall Pocket Match Toothpick Holder
Up for auction is a wonderful little vintage antique? brass or bronze cherub decorated miniature wall pocket recently found at auction in the suburban Philadelphia PA area. It is only 5.5" but quite heavy and solid. The cherub has wings and an older face than per usual. A great design. Lovely with or without anything in the pocket. We do not know if it is brass or bronze as both can have the green patina. This may have been for used matches in a smoking room or toothpicks in a dining room or for flowers in a porch or sun room. A lovely little vintage antique accent, not a reproduction. There are no makers marks nor numbers to be found. Adorable Small Vintage Early 1900s Brass or Bronze Frog Shaped Match Holder Box We traveled an hour and a half South into central Illinois for a football game this week. And I took the opportunity of going treasure hunting in the cornfields. I found a surprising variety– there’s something for everyone this week! This is one of my favorites this week- he's just do dang cute! It's a vintage. Early 1900s figural frog box, a match box, I was told. I was also told that he is bronze, but I've always had trouble telling brass from bronze- I see more of a brass color in his dark patina wear spots on the outside(than a coppery color- but see my comments below) so please look and see what you think- it's one or the other, for sure. It's a small box, but very hefty for its size and just over 1/2 lb, he measures 2 1/2" widest, ... more3" deapest and 1 1/2" tallest. He's in excellent solid and sturdy condition, with a hinge built into his backside so that you can lift his lid at the mouth to access the inside of the box. The patina on the inside is telling of the age- it's dark to almost black in some lights, with loots of green oxidation. Up for auction is this vintage Heintz Metal Art ashtray and match book holder. This is one of many items I will be selling from a large collection of Heintz Metal Art. Silver Crest and other bronze with silver overlay items. This collection was housed in a beach house for many years and the salt air has caused a green oxidation to the patina in some areas as well as pitting to the metal in some cases. All of the pieces are being sold as found. I will do my best to point out the damages in the description and photos. This ashtray, measuring 9” across and 4” high, is decorated with a sterling silver overlay of a hunting scene. There are trees, a deer and a hunting dog all in an arts and crafts style. The reverse side of the match book holder has a three letter monogram that I believe reads LAK. The ashtray has no dents but does have all over ... moreoxidation. There is a roughness associated with the oxidation that may mean some slight pitting. There are four rough spots on the base that is probably more pitting. This old shoe is actually a Spanish riding stirrup that probably found it's way to America in the Spanish Empire era during the conquer of the Aztecs or perhaps arriving in Florida? The mate is long gone. But what remains is this extraordinarily beautiful hand wrought solid brass shoe cup. What to do with it now? I suggest a match holder which is sizable enough to comfortably hold a box of fire place matches. Although I used drink straws to demonstrate it's size. It has been passed down by generations of the same family who kept it polished, never allowed it to patina, and as a result it's in excellent condition. Vintage iron broom holder and match holder
Today I have an iron piece that is a combination of a broom holder and a match holder. There are(2) holes behind the broom holder area where you screw the item to the wall. Antique Orig. Solid Brass Equestrian Design Shoe Wall Mounted Match Holder
This is an auction for a unique. Rare and unusual wall pocket, match holder made from solid brass. Very heavy weight, and done with a double horse head and stirrup design. Two holes in the back were for wall mounting. Can be used as a decorative wall vase as well for artificial plants, indoors, or real ones for outdoors. Measures 10" at longest part and 4-1/2" at widest part. Looks to me, to have been executed by hand. Engraving is somewhat rudimentary and cut out holes seem a little off-round. Rare. Antique, 152 year old, cast iron hanging match safe in very good condition. Marked"Matches" on the receptacle, and"Patented July 21. 63" across the top. Covered in traces of silver paint which may be original. I've held on to this piece for about 20 years debating how to replace the missing back piece. It was held in place with 4 iron pins& copper washers, may have been a beveled mirror, advertising plate or picture frame. Large piece, measures 7 5/8" tall x 4 3/8" wide with a 3 1/2" long striker on each side of the 1 1/2 x 3" match holder. Complete& undamaged, other than the missing back plate.
