24" Antique Victorian Cast Bronze Double Door Flush Cremone Slide Bolt Jamb Lock
Penn Antique. 24" Antique Cast Bronze Victorian Door Flushbolt. What a rare find! Available for purchase is a stunningly beautiful. 2 foot long flush bolt. The plate, knob, and bolt are solid, heavy, thick, cast bronze, and the rod joining the knob and bolt is made of iron. If you are not familiar with this type of hardware. I t's the locking mechanism installed on one of the doors in a pair of double doors. For the purpose of keeping one door stationary, while allowing the other to swing freely. A flushbolt this long is typically found on doors measuring between 7 1/2' 9' tall. If you are wondering why the price is so high. It is because it is very, very difficult to find one this long, this ornate, this old, and in excellent, functional condition. We have been working with antique doors for over a decade and have bought/sold, ... moredelivered for other dealers, and seen at least 10,000 antique doors, and we have only seen about 5 bolts like the one being offered in this auction. I don't know who made it or exactly when it was made. But my guess would be either"P.F. Corbin Mfg. Co. or"Russell& Erwin Mfg. Co. both based in New Britain, CT, during the 1880's. At the point of salvage. The plate was covered in red paint from top to bottom(see last photo) and the bolt was hard to push out. Since then, we spent a few hours removing the paint, and cleaning the bolt. Now, the plate looks almost as good as it did when it was first made, and the bolt slides back and forth with ease. The spring behind the knob is strong, and doesn't allow gravity or a bump to retract the bolt once it's extended. Since the top portion of the plate(the edge near the bolt) made the most contact with the door jamb. It has some deep scratches and small dents(see 2nd photo) However, the rest of the plate only has subtle scratches. The details are still sharp and vivid, not worn or faded. The knob is slightly bent upwards(see 3rd photo) This has no adverse affect on it's function or it's structural
