Architectural Hitching Post Wrought Iron Decorative Horse Head Garden
Here is an old antique hitching post. It is wrought iron and heavy as all get out. It measures about 35" high alone. I threw in the metal horses head. But it does not fit and you'd have to attach it some how if you wanted it on there. It is from a lamp(mid century) and has a hole in the top as shown in the last photo. You are buying the hitching post. If you don't want the head then the shipping will be less but the price you bid is the price you bid with or without the head. The base is 8 sided and about 7" wide x 7" high. The hole in the top of the base is about 2 3/4" across. The hitching post is old and has wear for age and a few holes in the iron as shown. Description This is a great piece that was salvaged from a Philadelphia Victorian Home. It is made of walnut and is painted. It has the original finial at the top. The upper shaft has large bullseyes on 3 sides. The lower shaft is fluted with bullseyes in the middle. It is notched for the step but is freestanding. It measures 54.5 inches tall by 7.5 square at the base and 6 inches square at the shaft. Overall it is in good condition. There are misc. scratches and dings as it is antique. It could use a good cleaning. There are chips with loss at the top under the finial and at the base where it met the step. There is a cut-away where the handrail met the post. COLUMN CAPITAL CAST IRON ANTIQUE VINTAGE INDUSTRIAL DECORATIVE ARCHITECTURAL
You are viewing a very rare and beautiful architectural item from the" Cast Iron Building" age of the 1800's. A cast iron column capital that was used by architects to decorate building columns which may have been entirely cast iron or heavy wood timbers. This is part of a four piece set. One for each of the four sides of a square column. The our sides were attached with bolts through the bolt holes. It looks very heavy, and is at 20 pounds. This piece has a great patina with traces of old paint and some expected normal rusting. The dimensions are: 13" high x 15" wide x 1" thick at the thickest point. It makes a great architectural decorative item which can be displayed on a wall, shelf, outdoors or just about anywhere. Oh my goodness this is an amazing architectural piece! Gorgeous capital. Amazing to use as a plateau or riser to show off all those pretties! Solid turned wood with nice architectural detail. It is painted an old mustard color and there is wear to the paint and some edges of the wood as you would expect from an old piece. Vintage Exterior Iron Railings for refinishing project, architectural salvage
Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE Vintage exterior iron railings look to be about 75 years old. They are for the landing part of the stairs. They measure 37 inches long and 35 inches high. The measurement between the footing bars is approximately 31 inches. There is an alternating pattern of twisted iron and square iron. In the center is a nice diamond shape. The front curves around with aluminum finials at the ends. There is heavy rust and a separation of the two bars along the top. I removed loose paint peeling by wiping it down with a soft towel(I didn't want to use a wire brush because I didn't want to scratch it) There’s still paint on it which has to be properly stripped. Sanded and repainted. These are heavy railings weighing 40 pounds each and they are still very solid. Some pain and stripper remains. There are nice carved capitals at the top. The shafts are fluted and tapered. The bases have great carved acanthus leaves. There are bun feet at the bottom. This face may represent the sun and you can see the carving retains its original first paint. You can also see a very old and stable shrinkage crack which travels the length of the column. This is a very old crack which has probably been there over 100 years. There also are some chips to the carved capital. When you are looking at the front of this column you cannot see that it has carved slightly towards the back. Then it seems e-Bay Buyers are telling me they Need More Facts. So when the listing ended last night for the third time without a sale, I decided to solve the mystery, opened the box, and attacked one of the toppers with the paint stripper attachment on my drill. It went slowly through green, black, bronze to a final shiny steel metal. So I can now say with certainty that they are cast steel toppers. I adjusted the opening bid downward. These are from a 1911 southern home that was originally owned by the president of the local cotton mill. The house had a large front porch with columns and a wide front staircase that swept outward as it descended to the front yard. ... moreAnd these might have come from either the stair balustrades or the columns. I believe they may have been removed around 1960 when the then-new owners clad the wood trim and column tops on the upper level of the brick house with aluminum siding. The four were found by an electrical construction crew working in the house around 2006. The box weighs 24 pounds. And the dimensions are 5 x 8 x 16. Description This is a nice piece that was salvaged from a Philadelphia Victorian Home. It is made of walnut and is painted. The cap is not original. The top has carved flowers on 3 sides. The shaft is fluted with another carved flower in the middle. The corners have beveled edges. The base is notched for the step but it is freestanding. It measures 47.25 inches tall. It is 8 inches square at the base and 6.5 inches square at the shaft. Overall it is in good condition. There are misc. scratches and dings as it is antique. It could use a good cleaning.
