1870 OCTAGON Walnut Architectural Stair Newel Post Column Victorian Plant Stand
Huge. Turned walnut, stairway, newel post. Circa 1860-1880 w/square nail construction. Nice, framed, recessed panels on every one of its 8 sides. Especially striking is the contrasting lighter stain inside each recessed panel. Adding a top would make this a terrific, one of a kind, plant stand or art pedestal. It is in wonderful overall condition with rich patina and is completely freestanding. It breaks down into numerous pieces and can be put back together in numerous ways. The metal rod goes down the middle. It stands about 42 inches tall with a bottom diameter of 8 1/4 inches. This is a high quality piece that you would never seen built today. Here we have a set of 3 architectural columns straight from inside an old barn. These antique pillars are hollow as you can see from photo 2. Small Interior Column Capital ~ Corinthian Capitol ~ Architectural Detail
Up for sale is a Small Column Capital that was for interior use. I think it is a Corinthian or Corinthian composite design. Maybe Edwardian or Victorian vintage. Or perhaps much later, I am not sure? It was probably an architectural detail from a mantel or other interior mill-work, but am not sure. It is about 3.25" in height and maximum across is about 6.25" at the tips of the projections. The circle or disc at the top is about a maximum of 4.25" diameter. The circle or disc at the bottom is about a maximum 3-15/16" diameter. The wood part of it looks like oak to me. The details are perhaps plaster or some other sort of composite material. It seems to have been stripped of original stain and/or paint. The detail material takes on a beautiful brownish patina probably stained from the removed original finish. It is in very ... moregood to excellent condition. The details are firmly attached to the oak. I see a couple of small losses to detail. But there may be more. One loss is at the very top between two of the projections. Another is a chip off the top of one of the main projection. There are a number of hairline cracks in the plaster or what ever material it is. A few small nail heads are visible where the detail was attached to the wooden base material. There is about a 7/8" diameter hole cut out on the bottom to receive the column which would have been below. Beautiful for any use. Even setting on a shelf.

Description This is a nice pair that was salvaged from a Philadelphia Victorian Home. They are made of chestnut and are currently painted white. They have fluted shafts and decorative moldings. They are not notched for the step. One has its original cap which is cracked and the other is missing the cap and molding just below it. It measures 37.5 without the cap. 6.5 square at the base and 5 inches square at the shaft. Overall they are in good condition. There are misc. scratches and dings as they are antique. I have a huge variety of oldees for you this week- from 19th century primitives to 1950s kitsch- there’s something for everyone! What can I say- I just loved the look of this antique dynamic duo. The old black paint is shabby and worn. With the wood showing in all the right places, and the wood is turned into a lovely and interesting shape. Now, I don't know if they were an architectural detail, or if they were part of a piece of furniture, so I have listed them in both. Made of solid wood, you can see they were affixed to whatever on one side of each piece. There's two holes on the top, ... moreand one on the bottom. Both of the very top holes still have parts of the wood pins that used to affix them inside of the holes, as does one of the bottom holes- see my photos. Each one measures 17 1/2" long. One end is 1 3/4" square and they are painted, the other end looks more like a foot, they are unfinished and measure 1 5/8" diameter. The widest part of the pieces is one of the round areas and it is 2 3/4" wide. They are both in excellent solid and sturdy condition structurally with minor nicks, scratches, nibbles and scrapes to the wood. There's a little chipping up by the holes at the finished end where the pin inserts. I'm not 100% sure, but I think they may be oak, from the peeks of wood that I see. They are both barn fresh dirtydustydirty and could use a good cleaning. I have one word for these: prettyprettypretty! Please ask if you have any questions. Hi this piece measures 47" tall x a base diameter of 7 1/2" Made of red oak it has a solid weight of 25 pounds. Hi for sale I have an antique old Newel Post. The post is made of red oak. Has a nice primitive look but it could be cleaned up to look better. The stain has scratches on it. The bottom has a chuck out of it. This is where it was removed from the original stair case. Antique Solid Oak Architectural Carved Victorian Newel ? Post Column Pillar
Solid oak post or column measuring about 23 1/4" tall. The diameter of the plain end measures about 5" and the other end where the carving is measures about 7" in diameter. Some areas of the column are straight cut oak while on 2 sides there is tiger oak grain showing. This piece is unfinished. The end with the carving is flat on the bottom while the other end is concave.There is a small piece of the turned ring near the carved portion that is missing. Also there is a tight age crack extending about 2" long from the end of the plain side and some dark spots on the turned ring on the bottom. Thank you for viewing. Left over from a staircase I installed close to forty years ago(see bottom images) My guess would be that the wood is Chestnut. There are nicks and scratches, as well as some nail holes where handrail attached. The post measures 25-1/2" in height x 5-1/2" x 6-7/8" at square side widths. The turned parts are 5" dia. at the top and the smallest diameter is 3-3/16" Three faces have identical designs. Fourth is where railing attached; one small square broken nail remains. They are painted white and have a chippy patina. 2 soild ~4 sided pieces. Photos 1- 7 show the full piece columns. 8-12 show the 1/2 columns. The second photo shows how I have used a pair in my home. I added hang hood and heavy wire to the back of the columns. I then added a heavy photo hook to my wall, then I hung the columns to the wall. They each have some damage to the bottoms. FOUR HAND CARVED 6 FOOT PILLERS/POLES ANTIQUE ARCHITECTURAL SERPENT DESIGN
These hand carved pillars are from Japan. They came out of Santa Fe. NM. These are elegant, ornate, detailed, large, heavy and have Serpens, curlicues and a lot of architectural work on them. They measure 6 tall feet overall. There is a 5" area that fits into a recessed area. The tops of these pillars have another 5" carved out, smooth area, that would fit into a top, recessed area. Their circumference is 12" around. The circumference of the tops and bottoms that go into the recessed areas are 9" These pillars have been used and displayed outdoors. They have gold colored paint dusted over them which is worn from age. They would be gorgeous indoors, as well as outdoors. Some have small portions chipped off. Top of the column has a wood dowel inserted along with predrilled holes and the bottom has predrilled holes as well. Measures overall 24 1/2"in. tall and up to 4 3/4"in. wide. EXCELLENT VINTAGE CONDITION. Has wear, a few splits in the wood with some being previously repaired, a few chips, tiny paint marks, but a marvelous vintage find. Not marked. It is painted brown and there is wear to the paint and some edges of the wood as you would expect from an old piece. PAIR ARCHITECTURAL SALVAGE ART DECO SKYSCRAPER MAHOGANY OCTAGON COLUMNS POST 90"
We are pleased to offer this VINTAGE pair of salvaged. Architectural columns. The pair were used indoors in a formal dining room and we salvaged during the home's remodel. The columns are about 30 to 40 years old. They are heavy, solid(not hollow) and feature a BEAUTIFUL MAHOGANY finish. They are Art Deco in style and are 8 sided(octagon shaped) They have a fabulous, Art Deco styled"Skyscraper" design which is featured on both the top and bottom caps. The caps are fixed and are not removable. The octagon pattern is raised at the point of attachment between the two sections(picture 3) The columns are in very good condition with no rot or broken/missing pieces. They do have some surface scuffs and scratches but these are fairly minor and can be sanded and refinished. The attachment screws are in place for you as well. Antique Architectural Salvage Weathered Column Cap - Christmas Tree Pedestal
If this column cap could talk. I would be willing to bet it has more sordid stories and harrowing tales than Rob Ford. This exquisitely ornate, gorgeously weathered column cap is a magnificent piece of historic salvage. Chipped, peeling paint unearth the gritty texture hidden beneath the bone white exterior. The imperfect details, like cracked corners and a slight lean, give it character, while the flourishing curliques and imposing European charm belie what must have been a wealthy past in a building of grand stature. Shockingly, this isn't as heavy as you might expect(around 20 lbs, easy enough for this admittedly weak-armed shopkeep to lift) which makes it easy to repurpose for plenty of uses. My first thought was that this would be an incredible, one-of-a-kind pedestal for a Christmas tree, either real or fake(though you might need ... moreto slip something underneath one side to make it a bit more stable and cure the lean) However, if you have a bigger table, it would make an incredible centerpiece on its own, and could easily be accented with a candelabra, tealights, or bottlebrush trees. Year round, use it as a plant stand, small accent table, or just as salvage-chic decor. Measures approximately 14.5" wide. 15" tall. This auction is for one(1) antique vintage victorian wooden architectural porch spindle post/column. It was removed from our 1896 Victorian home as part of a remodeling project. I have no idea in what year this particular post was put on the porch. Meaning no way for me to know whether it was an original or a replacement somewhere down the line. I only know the year the house was built, and that the post was here when we bought it. It is about 94.5 inches tall, and the squared-off portions above and below the spindle section are 3.25" x 3.25" Measuring from the top to the point where the spindle begins is about 14.5" in length(height) and the spindle part is 39.5" long before the squared-off part starts again. The top has carved panels on three sides. The shaft is fluted. The base is notched for the step but is freestanding. It measures 49.5 inches tall. The base is 7.5 inches and the shaft is 6 square. Overall it is in decent condition. There are misc. scratches and dings as it is antique. It could use a good cleaning. The cap is pretty beat up. There are lots of small chips and wear. Offered is a fine pair of carved female figures in dark rich mahogany. With pegs at top and bases from mantel/sideboard/china cabinet in previous life. These Art Nouveau style caryatids wear one shoulder drapes. Have long wavy flowing hair. And cornucopia of flowers in one arm. They end in a vase-like carved acanthus leaf bases with 4" more of decorative turnings below. The total carved length is 19" not including the pegs(removable) to attach to your piece. They are a true pair. A right and left, with heads turned to and flowers on opposing sides. Each has some losses: one is missing the entire arm and tail of cornucopia. The other a curl in front and a bit of nose. Each has no arm on the other side. But looks to have never had one. Each has some chipping or some rubbing to the tips of the acanthus leaves. We think it was salvaged in the early 70’s and has been stored in a garage. It has fantastic carving and details. The Newel Post that is 26 ½ inches tall. Base is 9 ½ inches across and the top is 6 ½ inches across on the largest side. There are a couple of chipped places. One is at the very top and is about 2 ½ inches and the other is 1 ½ inches on a top rung. Tapered wood columns that are 64.5” tall and 5 ¼” top) 8” bottom) in diameter. The square at the top end is 7.5” square. The top end still needs to be stripped and is not attached to the main column because it is where they were cut to be removed. They originally sat on two wood boxes but the boxes were unsalvageable. Hello. For sale are 2 architectural oak columns that were salvaged from a turn of the century home in Cincinnati, Ohio. They are oak with a beautiful quarter sawn veneer in its original finish. They are based on the ionic Roman order of design with the scrolled capitals. Each stands 74" tall, 13" in diameter and 6 1/2" wide capital. Excellent, original condition with a mellow warm patina that only time can bring. Minor, stable age splits in the veneer and wear consistent with age that really only enhance their beauty. Absolutely great shape, and ready as they are, to be incorporated into your decorating or rehabbing project. Weight is 20 lbs a piece. Description This is a nice newel post that was salvaged from a Philadelphia Victorian Home. It is made of oak and was painted but has been stripped. The top of the post has carved flowers on three sides with nice Victorian details below. The shaft has Eastlake Spoon Carvings on three sides. There is a flower pot with vines and flowers. There is a cut out for the step at the bottom but is freestanding. The total measurements are 46.25 inches tall by 7.75 inches square at the base and 6 inches square at the shaft. Overall it is in good condition. There are misc. scratches and dings as it is antique. It could use a good cleaning. It needs a final finish sanding and it needs a finial. It has a cracked and chipped patina and is a sand over white. Although the cannonball top has a crack it is still very solid. One side has nail holes from its original installation.see photos.
