This is a lovely colour map of Wiltshire which was taken from the book"The County Maps of Old England" by Thomas MOULE which was published in 1990. The page measures approximately 9.5" x 12" check the photos) and the map has been printed onto good thick quality paper. It would look lovely framed! Thomas MOULE was one of the most distinctive and best-loved of early Victorian mapmakers and he first published his maps in 1830. His work is often compared to his 17th century predecessor John Speed who published similar maps in the 1630's(many of which I have also got listed on ebay) Because it has been taken from a book there is the description of the next map in the book on the back of this map. When closed the piece is 6 1/3 inches by 4 inches. The scale suggests between 5 and 6 inches to the mile. CARTOGRAPHY. Alarge and exceptionally detailed map with modern hand colouring. The printed area measures approx 30x43cm on a sheet approx 36x49cm; issued without a centrefold. Though it has been folded subsequently leaving a very neat and soft vertical centrefold crease. First published in the Weekly Dispatch from 1860, this example comes from Cassell’s British Atlas published in 1867. Text along the right side gives demographic information. Light-grade paper. Evenly toned. The printed area is very clean; the image is clear and sharp; some soft creasing. In the margins there is some creasing and quite a lot of edge damage from bumping; some discolouration on edges. Verso blank and clean. I’ll post the map rolled in a wide-diameter posting tube.
