Size: The map image measures approximately 8 by 10 1/2 inches on a 9 by 11 1/2" page with a margin all around for matting as seen in the pic. Condition: It is in Very Good condition for its age with overall light tonal ageing. There are a couple of minor light stains in the margin as seen. Otherwise it is very clean with nice color that would frame up well, see the pics for more on condition. It is blank on the reverse with original hand coloring. Westlake was a student at the De Havilland Aeronautical Technical School when he joined the RAFVR in September 1937 as an Airman u/t Pilot(740702) Called up on September 1 1939. Westlake completed his training and was posted as a flying instructor, firstly at 9 EFTS, Ansty and later 3 FTS, South Cerney. He was commissioned on August 31 1940 and arrived at 6 OTU, Sutton Bridge. After converting to Hurricanes. Westlake was posted to 43 Squadron at Usworth on September 21. He moved to 213 Squadron at Tangmere on the 29th and he claimed a Bf 109 destroyed on November 15. In May 1941 213 Squadron embarked on the carrier HMS Furious for the Middle East. It flew off to Malta on the 2151 and went on to Mersa Matruh later the same day. During the campaign in Syria in June 1941. Westlake was attached to 80 Squadron. He shared a Vichy French Martin 167 on the 6th and destroyed a Dewoitine D 520 and shared another on the 9th. The squadron moved to Cyprus in July 1941. Britian and the Orient. See our other sales for more finds. This vintage Brass Kerosene Lantern is u nused. Unassembled and still packed in its original Styrofoam. You won't find one of these in better condition. Note that the photos show the actual lanten behind plastic. Since I don't want to remove it from it's original plastic bag. The lantern's name plate says" CARGO LIGHT NO. 3954 GREAT BRITAIN 1939" A handle attached to the main body allows you to hang or carry the lantern and vertical grill work and a brass chain lock to open and secure the vented dome. It measures almost 15" tall from bottom to top of chimney and 18 1/2" when handle is extended it is 9" wide. The lantern is constructed with copper rivets. Condition: REMARKABLE! Most lamps of this age show significant tarnishing and wear from smoke. Not this one. It has never been used and the latern remains protected in its original plastic and Styrofoam. You can see some beautiful patina from where this item has been exposed to air. The glass panels and dome are packed separately and have dirt/dust from storage.Though no cracks or chips. It is signed at both of the bottom corners. This coverlet measures 90 inches long, and 80 inches wide. It is in great shape. It is nice and heavy. It features four colors. Red, Green, Blue, and the White base color(light cream) It has the fringe on 3 of the 4 sides. If you look at the last photos, you might be able to see a faint stain on the lighter part of the coverlet. This is on the back side, and it is very faint. Also, if you look carefully, you wilL see there is a seam running right up the middle of the coverlet. It looks like this was woven together in two pieces, and then they were joined together. The accompanying text gives a brief history of the 25-pounder field gun and there is a Key to Parts with a descriptive analysis of the gun as well as a look tto the future of guided missiles or rockets. These centre page cutaways were a hugely popular feature of the EAGLE comic for many years and focused on the latest developments in aircraft. Ships, rail and road transport and weaponry. This Eagle cutaway has been very well looked after. The picture is clean and bright[no fading at all] It measures over twenty-one inches long and would look quite spectacular framed on a wall! The original owner had preserved a great many of these scarce Eagle cutaways- including many racing cars. Please check my other items.
