In addition, Speed's atlas was notable because each map included a plan of the most important town in the county; in many cases Speed's were the first maps of those towns ever printed. Westlake was a student at the De Havilland Aeronautical Technical School when he joined the RAFVR in September 1937 as an Airman u/t Pilot(740702) Called up on September 1 1939. Westlake completed his training and was posted as a flying instructor, firstly at 9 EFTS, Ansty and later 3 FTS, South Cerney. He was commissioned on August 31 1940 and arrived at 6 OTU, Sutton Bridge. After converting to Hurricanes. Westlake was posted to 43 Squadron at Usworth on September 21. He moved to 213 Squadron at Tangmere on the 29th and he claimed a Bf 109 destroyed on November 15. In May 1941 213 Squadron embarked on the carrier HMS Furious for the Middle East. It flew off to Malta on the 2151 and went on to Mersa Matruh later the same day. During the campaign in Syria in June 1941. Westlake was attached to 80 Squadron. The lantern's name plate says" CARGO LIGHT NO. 3954 GREAT BRITAIN 1939" A handle attached to the main body allows you to hang or carry the lantern and vertical grill work and a brass chain lock to open and secure the vented dome. It measures almost 15" tall from bottom to top of chimney and 18 1/2" when handle is extended it is 9" wide. The lantern is constructed with copper rivets. Condition: REMARKABLE! Most lamps of this age show significant tarnishing and wear from smoke. Not this one. It has never been used and the latern remains protected in its original plastic and Styrofoam. You can see some beautiful patina from where this item has been exposed to air. The glass panels and dome are packed separately and have dirt/dust from storage.Though no cracks or chips. It is signed at both of the bottom corners. This coverlet measures 90 inches long, and 80 inches wide. It is in great shape. It is nice and heavy. It features four colors. Red, Green, Blue, and the White base color(light cream) It has the fringe on 3 of the 4 sides. If you look at the last photos, you might be able to see a faint stain on the lighter part of the coverlet. This is on the back side, and it is very faint. Also, if you look carefully, you wilL see there is a seam running right up the middle of the coverlet. It looks like this was woven together in two pieces, and then they were joined together. Superb 1887 shillingcoin from Great Britain. very lustorus coin. These are hard to find in this grade. I am a private collector downsizing my collection. Grading is my opinion only. Grading is very subjective. I've seen slabed coins graded 63BU I would call XF and slabed coins graded 58AU I would call BU. Judge for yourself by the photo. Please note that selling coins is not my business. Shipping and handling includes a fourteen mile round trip to the post office. I can only mail on Saturdays. As I work Monday through Friday. I'm timeing these auctions to end on Thursday so that the winner can pay via paypal and I can mail the coin out on Saturday. Delaying payment will delay delivery of your coin by one week.
