This piano is made of Brazilian Rosewood and is of the Empire Revival style. Brazilian Rosewood is now endangered and nearly impossible to get which makes it very desirable as a result. The piano is in rough original condition. But it is definitely restorable. Because this piano is a Chickering& Mackay rather than just“Chickering” makes it much more valuable and interesting from a historical and collectible point of view. AGE: Pianos built under the Chickering& Mackay name were produced only from 1830– 1840. Based on the way this piano is built and the way the stringing scale is designed. It is estimated to be closer to 1840 than 1830 because it is a bit more evolved in design than the pianos of the 1830 era. CHICKERING& MACKAY PIANO COMPANY HISTORY: Chickering& Sons(not to be confused with Chickering Brothers) was the first ... moreactual piano factory in America. Established in Boston in 1823 by Jonas Chickering with partner James Stewart. Originally called Stewart& Chickering from 1823-1826, the name was changed to Chickering& Sons in 1826 when Chickering brought in his three sons, Thomas, Frank and George, as partners. From about 1830-1840, Chickering built some pianos under the name of Chickering& Mackay. John Mackay was a sea captain, and he would export Chickering pianos to South American, and in return, would bring back ships full of sweet smelling rosewood and mahogany for piano building. Chevrier de Paris Violin 1830 Good Condition
This full size violin. Whose body measures 14 2/8 inches on the back more likely than not is the work of Andre-Augustin Chevrier of the French family of luthiers. The other member of the Chevrier family active in 1830 was Claude. Condition wise. Most of the defects are surface dirt and scratches. There is indeed one crack along the back, but it is nowhere near the sound post. I've included a detail shot in the description. Three of the pegs are as the one shown in the scroll detail with the mother of pearl dot on the top of the head. The E-string does not match and lacks that adornment. The D-string peg slips. The label inside has a checkerboard border and the maker's inscription is hand written. Chevrier de Paris. Lutte( 1830. Tat11 Rare Antique Carved Sandalwood Tatting Shuttle Indian/English* Circa 1830-50 This scarce shuttle was carved out of a solid piece of sandalwood. It came from India and was probably part of a set of needlework tools made for a Sadeli or sandalwood workbox. Indian craftsmen made these tools exclusively for export to England. The condition is excellent with no chips. Cracks or other damage. The six included in this auction are: 1816 N8 variety which is holed, 1817 13 star N12 variety which is a rarity 4; this coin has two rim dents and is bent. The the variety markers are very clear especially the crack through the date, 1820 over 19 N1 variety with a nice clear overdate 1825 N7 variety which is a rarity 2, 1827 N4 variety which is a rarity 3, 1830 Large Letters N8 variety that has a scratch at 5:30 on the obverse rim. ANTIQUE 1830"s -1840's ENGLISH "GAUDY WELSH" STYLE PITCHER WITH COLORED PANELS
This sweet little pitcher predates a lot of the later"Gaudy Welsh" pieces. I've seen only one other one with panels of solid color. The two bright green panels and the one cobalt blue panel are all under the glaze. The flower and leaves on the three alternate panels are all hand-painted over the glaze. The pitcher has six lobed ribs or panels. It measures 4" 10.2 cm) in height and 2 3/4" 7 cm) in diameter at the widest point. Most of these were done in earthenware or a heavy Ironstone. This one is a thin porcelain and you can see light shining through it when held up to a lamp. There is a little purple luster trim which was on the green panels. But is worn. There is a luster stripe on the knobbed bracket handle. It also has the early prominent spout. There is a quarter inch thin, faint,U" shaped line on the inside ... morerim of the pitcher, that does not go through to the outside. This line can be seen in the two pictures of the top in this listing. This pitcher is not marked, but the early ones rarely were. These are 3 antique German teaspoons made of solid silver with a cornucopia design. The bowls are quite dinged up. Please see photo. They are 6” long and weigh 1.35 troy ounces. They are c. 1830 and I think the maker is Ernest Heinrich Baerthold but the mark is unattributed. Cubierta con las chapas de Palo de Rosa. El cuero con motivos dorados de escritura interior está en perfecto estado y es de una indudable belleza. Todo el trabajo del metal es original y está en su lugar. Debajo de la pendiente de escritorio tiene una bandeja para con pequeños compartimentos para guardar pequeñas cosas(esta bandeja es nueva y está realizada en madera laceada a mano) Debajo de los huecos de los tinteros y plumas se encuentran tres pequeños ... morecajones secretos originales.
