As it shows the early development of the Panama Canal as of 1902- the year that the United States Senate voted to pursue negotiations to take over the construction of the Canal from the French Company that had given up on the project after losing 22.000 ... morelives and $287,000,000 by 1890. Situated on the isthmus connecting North and South America. It is bordered by Costa Rica to the west, Colombia to the southeast. The Caribbean to the north and the Pacific Ocean to the south. The capital is Panama City. Explored and settled by the Spanish in the 16th century. Panama broke with Spain in 1821 and joined a union of Nueva Granada, Ecuador. And Venezuela. Named the Republic of Gran Colombia. When Gran Colombia dissolved in 1831. Panama and Nueva Granada remained joined. Nueva Granada later became the Republic of Colombia. This auction is for an original. Antique lithograph plate which has been rescued from a disbound copy of'Meyers Konversations-Lexikon. Date Published: Printed in 1885 by Bibliographisches Institut. Leipzig, Germany Print size: 11 3/4 inches by 9 1/2 inches The lithograph has a characteristic patina which is natural for vintage paper. But is in good condition considering it is nearly 130 years old. The plate was folded inside the book and has the original centrefold, although this central line is more visible on the scanned image than the actual print up for auction. Although a general impression of the print can be seen from the image, it doesn't really capture the true detail and color quality of the original. The originator of the print up for auction was Joseph Meyer(May 1796- June 1856) who published the respected German encyclopedia. ... moreMeyers Konversations-Lexikon. Meyer was born in Gotha, Germany and was educated in Frankfurt. He operated very successfully as a publisher, and founded the publishing house, Bibliographisches Institut in Gotha in 1826. It published several editions of the Bible, works of classical literature, atlases, the world in pictures on steel engravings, and the encyclopaedia mentioned above, Meyers Konversations-Lexikon. I'm guessing about 1906. Based on the others I have. This was from my Grandmother. Who told me you were supposed to sew beads and sequins on it as a household craft. Then make it into a pillow. Measures about 20" x 16" Professionally mounted on foam core for framing. Colors are clear. Close to original. There are some minor condition issues, but the appraisers saw it in this condition. This map is one of an entire collection of 100 Antique Maps- German and American- that I am listing for auction. Each of these maps are original and in excellent condition; suitable for framing. British North America referred to the colonies and territories of the British Empire in continental North America. The term was first used informally in 1783. But it was uncommon before the Report on the Affairs of British North America(1839) Called the Durham Report. In 1775 the British Empire included 20 territories north of New Spain. These were Newfoundland, Rupert's Land, Nova ... moreScotia, Prince Edward Island. The Thirteen Colonies(which later united to become the United States after independence from the United Kingdom) East and West Florida. And the Province of Quebec. Britain had acquired Quebec from France and East and West Florida from Spain by the Treaty of Paris(1763) Which ended the Seven Years' War. Spain regained the Floridas and the United States of America. Upon acknowledgement of their sovereignty, acquired the part of Quebec south of the Great Lakes by the Treaty of Paris(1783) Nova Scotia was split into modern-day Nova Scotia and New Brunswick in 1784. The part of Quebec retained after 1783 was split into the primarily French-speaking Lower Canada and the primarily English-speaking Upper Canada in 1791. After the War of 1812. The Treaty of 1818 established the 49th parallel as the United States– British North America border from Rupert's Land west to the Rocky Mountains. Britain gave up Oregon south of the 49th parallel. Which had been part of the Hudson's Bay Company's Columbia District. Under the Oregon Treaty of 1846. Unlike topographical maps or state maps of the era issued by most cartographers. The underlying premise of these Civil War maps was to depict the cartography as it specifically related to events of the Civil War. Thus, individual battles, small forts, troop movements, local rail lines, panoramic views, etc. are often rendered and explained with precision in a manner quite unique. Also, the very large format of the sheet allows for a level of detail which makes the map perfect for display or study by a Civil War buff, since the detail it contains is to be found almost no where else on this scale. This graphic illustration is one of an entire collection of 100 Antique Maps- German and American- that I am listing for auction. Each of these maps are original and in excellent condition; very suitable for framing. This is an important historical document. Having been created the very year that Cuba gained its formal independence from the United States. Following the Spanish-American War. Cuba. Officially the Republic of Cuba, República de Cuba. Is an island country in the Caribbean. The nation of Cuba ... moreconsists of the main island of Cuba. As well as the Isla de la Juventud and several archipelagos. Havana is the largest city in Cuba and the country's capital. Santiago de Cuba is the second largest city. To the north of Cuba lies the United States(150 km or 90 mi away) and the Bahamas, Mexico is to the west. The Cayman Islands and Jamaica are to the south. And Haiti and the Dominican Republic are to the southeast. In 1492, Christopher Columbus landed on and claimed the island now occupied by Cuba. For the Kingdom of Spain. Cuba remained a territory of Spain until the Spanish–American War ended in 1898. And gained formal independence from the U.S. in 1902. A fragile democracy. Increasingly dominated by radical politics eventually evolved, solidified by the Cuban Constitution of 1940. But was quashed in 1952 by former president Fulgencio Batista. Hart" The romantic in me wonders if the song won her heart. Did he ever return? Did they wed? The Sheet Music is in a protective sleeve with cardboard backing and is shipped out as such. None of the music has been trimmed. The images are either taken by a digital camera or a scanner. The scanner images might not show all of the edges because of the size limitation of the scanner.
