I'm not sure of the exact age of this map(Mosy likely early 1980's) But it depicts Europe as it was post World War II in 1953. The spring operated roll system makes this easy to deploy and retract and it is in perfect working condition. This map was purchased as surplus from a local university. The large white marks are just reflections from my poor lighting. These maps measure 50" across and is about 40" tall. It also includes the built in mounting bracket/rail so it's ready to install. Large overall with the wooden parts it measures approx 57 1/2 by 75 1/2 inches. Condition is Very Good to Excellent Condition for its age. Very Clean. Some slight damage to the top Left and Right edges of the map. See images. There is a tear at the top left edge approx 3 1/2 inches by the wooden top mount. There is another tear on the right top edge approx 4 1/2 inches on the edge. Two other smaller tears in the middle of the map towards the top approx 2 and 4 inches. There are two tears on each edge at the bottom of the map approx 2 and 3 inches from the edges one on each side. Is now the southern part of Lowell. It is 28" wide and 42" long. It rolls up like a wall map and it appears that the original wooden scroll pieces are there. You just found a very rare 1920 census map of Pennsylvania. It was manufactured by George F Cram Company out of Chicago. This is a true find very rare. It was folded and stored out of the light for over 50 years. The backing is canvas and it was previously hung from the brass holes at the top. Since it was folded. It has fold marks but this can easily be framed and displayed in your home or office. It's a lovely map with beautiful color with no missing pieces. One of the most interesting and attractive 19th century wall maps of North America.This majestic work was done in 1854 by Jacob Monk. As the new country was beginning to expand fully to the Pacific following the land gains after the Mexican War. The gold region in California is remarkably inaccurate with Auburn shown well north of Sacramento City and lying between it and the Marysville& Yuba City area. The Great Basin area is also inaccurate and roughly follows the Fremont model. Filled with wagon routes. Explorer's trails, forts, Indian tribes, and so much more. The middle portion of the U.S. is unorganized with only Indian nations named and colored. Much of this area is organized into the Proposed Territory of Nebraska. Minnesota includes Dakota. Which is not named. Out west, only California and the territories of Oregon. New Mexico ... moreand Utah exist. Includes a table of distances and a table of counties and towns with more than 1.200 names. Has a large inset of the World on Mercator's projection. Embellished with an elaborately decorated border and with numerous engraved sailing and steam/sail ships shown in the oceans. Complete with both original wooden rollers and linen backing.
