They are printed on paper that is not acid free and in most cases have not been stored in the best way. So some of the maps you are buying will be in a condition that reflects both of these facts. The map you get may be worn or lightly torn along the fold lines due to the acidity of the paper and being folded for years. They may also be discolored or mottling spots again due to the acidity of the paper. The borders of the maps may also have small tears. On occasion maps may smell musty from the way they have been stored in the past. When the map is kept in an open area the musty smell will fade away in time. This map was from my father's estate. He served in the US Army during WWII and was stationed in England, preparing for the D-Day invasion. Although there is no date on the map, it would have to have been published in the late 1930s to early 1940s- certainly before 1944. Folded.
