An original antique town plan of BRADFORD by John Tallis. Published in the Illustrated Atlas in 1851. This is a highly decorative(and relatively uncommon) map which is steel engraved and uncoloured(as published) It shows the city in exceptional detail in the mid-19th century- a time of massive social and economic change with industrialisation. Urbanisation and the coming of the railways. The map features seven vignettes of buildings and scenes in Bradford viz. the Bradford& Halifax train station, Airedale College, St Peter's Church, St George's Hall, the Infirmary, the RC Church and the cemetery. The map is framed(perspex 550x470mm) and mounted with a print area approximately 350x260mm. The map is in excellent condition. NB the map will be sold out-of-frame to international buyers.

The map is unframed and unmounted with a print area approximately 500x360mm. Apart from slight browning to the margins(well outside the printed area) the map is in very good condition.

Description This is the original hand-drawn plan. Created in the 1950s, showing the proposed development of the town of Richmond in Yorkshire. It's drawn on a large(56 by 70 cms) sheet of tinted paper. Mainly in red pen and painted with differently coloured highlights which show the parts of the town scheduled for development. On the right of the sheet is a key to the codes and symbols with an explanation of their meaning The general heading states that it is the County Development Plan A unique item C ondition There are some general signs of use. Mainly handling creases and light fold marks, the top left section has 3 spots(see photo) and there are a couple of small white spots ... moreat the bottom of the key. There is a small area of roughness in the right side of the top blank area. The reverse is blank except for the name E Thornhill printed in ink.
