Antique Victorian Scottish Cairngorm Silver Pebble Pin, Scotland, c. 1870
Antique Victorian Scottish Cairngorm Silver Pebble Pin. Scotland, c. 1870 Description Antique Victorian Scottish Cairngorm Silver Pebble Pin. Scotland, c. 1870-1900. T he pin is beautiful with an early unmarked silver setting. I did test the setting and it tests as silver. The large stone in the center is either an amber or I believe it is a Cairngorm stone. There are also bloodstone and red jasper stones among the six gem stones set around the perimeter. There are also six flat inlaid pebble stones. The pin is unmarked but is really quite early as is evidenced by the original c-clasp and tube hinge. We find a number of Scottish Cairngorm pins. But it is difficult to find examples from the Victorian period. I offer this fine example with the opening bid the reserve. DIMENSIONS: The pin is 5/8" thick x 1 1/4" Dia. CONDITION: The ... morecondition is very good with some scratching to the cairngorm stone in the center. SHIPPING: Buyer pays actual shipping costs based upon the 4 ounces weight and postal zone. By James Logan, Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland. Published in 1849 by S. Andrus and Son, Hartford. 9” x 6” full leather binding. Illustrated with plates. 520 pages. DESCRIPTION: This is a historical. Anthropological and ethnographic study of the Highlanders of Scotland, direct descendants of the Celts. This ... morebook shows how the Highlander. His clans, culture and lifestyle evolved from the first Celtic inhabitants of Europe and Britain. It explores all aspects of the Highlanders’ life: the clan system, tartans and dress, the homes and forts they built, social customs, religious beliefs, how they waged war, weapons, literature and art, language, poetry and music, what kinds of food comprised the Highlanders’ diet, and much more. It shows how many of these ancient ways still survived into the 19th century when this book was written, but also how many had become obsolete and nearly forgotten. Illustrated with beautiful copper plate engravings and woodcut text illustrations. THE SCOTISH GAEL is a must-have for anyone seriously interested in Highlander history and genealogy. The author writes in the Preface: The Scots’ Highlanders are the unmixed descendants of the Celts. Who were the aboriginal inhabitants of Europe, and the first known colonists of Britain. Slowly following the progress of refinement, and assimilating with their neighbors, it may soon be a matter of unavailing regret, that their language, their singular manners, and peculiar customs, will have become extinct and unkno

The front is advertising about Ballentines whiskey. Bottom is stamped and embossed with Glascow, Scotland advertising emblems and makers marks. Antique 19th C. Masonic Mason Freemasonry Ironstone Pitcher From Scotland
This unique antique ironstone pitcher has a wide base and rope shaped handle. The intricate designs are filled with Masonic imagery. The pitcher measures 7 3/8" tall to the top of the handle and 5 7/8" in diameter at the base. It weighs 1 pound 12.3 ounces. My antique expert dates it to the mid 19th Century. My friend purchased this pitcher in an antique store in Edinburgh. Scotland over 30 years ago. Sadly, it is not signed. This is in wonderful condition for it's age and use. There are some bubbles in the glaze from firing. The wear on the transfer art appears to be under the glaze. There is no crazing and no chips. It does have a hairline crack on the spout approximately 1" long(pictured) I read that the Freemasonry dates to 16th Century Scotland. This is just a bit newer. But, a very collectible piece of history. I ... morewill be happy to answer any questions and. Of course, combine your shipping.

Antique Orkney Chair from Orkney Islands Scotland
Wonderful. Authentic, antique child's Orkney chair from Scotland- dated to 1930's. Chair is in original condition with no repairs to frame or rush. The very top of the chair does have some unraveling, but is the only issue to note. The chair measures 20"wide x 34"tall x14"seat x21"deep. Shipping is to lower 48 US. It's also more likely that this was produced before or at the turn of the century- c.1890-1900.

Antique Scottish Reverse Painting Checkerboard-Glasgow, Scotland circa-1890's
Up for auction is this great antique reverse painting checkerboard on glass in what I believe is an oak wood frame. We have owned it for over 40 years. There is an antique metal circle hanger to hang the board diagonal. It was made in Scotland in the middle to late 1800's. We believe it was reframed in 1901 as that is the date on the old backing we removed. We repaired the backing 25 years ago& discovered behind the old cardboard backing a newspaper called the Glasgow Evening Post with a date of December of 1901. The were many wonderful articles and great advertisements in this old newspaper. Much about the Boar War-so much to learn about the life in Scotland at the turn of the century. We saved the old cardboard-which was signed-Richard Galloway and has the year 1901 written on it. When we found the newspaper 25 years ago we were ... morenot knowledgable about saving the cool paper and it has really crumbled-not much left-but we are including it with the board. The piece measures just under 18" high& wide. USA shipping only.

Smoky Quartz was and is a favorite ornamental stone set into the pommel of the Scottish ... moredirk, or“black dagger” a long dagger with a straight blade that is a prerequisite of Highland costume. Smoky quartz is the national gemstone of Scotland and has been considered a sacred stone for millennia, a belief dating back to the Druids. Here's a very uncommon semi-precious gemstone from Victorian-era Scotland, specifically Mount Cairngorm. Very popular in 18th and 19th century Victorian Scotland, this gemstone is known either as“Smoky” or“Cairngorm” Quartz. Generally“crystal” clear, the smoky tone is caused by the natural radiation emanating from granite stone the quartz is exposed to while buried in the earth. This is a very handsome faceted round cut smoky quartz crystal gemstone. The faceted cut is a coarse precursor to what eventually became known in the industry as a“brilliant cut” round, the contemporary finish generally given to round diamonds. This particular specimen is completely transparent, with beautiful sparkle and luster. It is exceptionally clean, water clear, and very bright. It is gorgeous smoky brown color. The gemstone was hand crafted and faceted by a 19th century Russian artisan, part of an heritage renown for the production of the elaborate gems

Antique Rye Jug Ceramic Pottery Buchan Scotland Marked and Numbered
Vintage rye ceramic pottery jug made by Buchan. Portobello, Scotland. Stamped on bottom and numbered 6/26 A. I am not really familiar with the brand. I just know it has been in my family for(guessing) at least 75 years. I can't find.another one like it, so I don't know what else to say about it. The bottom is ivory and the top is pink. Unfortunately, when I went to lift it by the handle, it broke off. As you can see, if you glue it back on, it looks fine. Otherwise this very old jug is in fine vintage condition. If you look closely, you can see the rings from the potters wheel. Very heavy. 8" high x 4 1/2" wide where the handle is.
