SCOTLAND Rare Antique Map, Over Two Centuries Old - Carey, Philadelphia, 1795
RARE ANTIQUE MAP( genuine) SCOTLAND* Mathew Carey. Philadelphia* 1795- This is a very rare and historic map of Scotland. Made in the United States while George Washington was President. Titled"Scotland with the Principal Roads from the Best Authorities, it was published by Mathew Carey in Philadelphia in 1795. This copper plate map measures 17 inches by 14 inches overall. Including margins, and there is a clear plate mark around the map area. This was the first map of Scotland published in the United States and it reads at the top"Engraved for M. Carey's American edition of Guthrie's Geography improved. This map is in very nice condition overall. Especially for this type of map, and this 218-year-old map has no significant flaws. There is a barely noticeable centerfold(original) and scattered light browning, but this is ... morevery light and does not significantly detract from the great display potential of this early piece of cartographic history. The map is uncolored. Except for some coloring in the border area with England(see scans) and there is a tiny written notation of"Edinburg" along the bottom border of this map. Other than these minor imperfections, this rare map is in excellent overall condition, probably the finest specimen of this particular map you are likely to encounter. This is a rare and historic map of Scotland. Over two centuries old, and with an appropriate mat and frame, this map will make an outstanding exhibit of 18th Century cartography. This map is guaranteed ORIGINAL– IT IS GENUINE. NOT A"REPRO" OF ANY SORT! It was made in 1795 and is not a modern reprint or any other type of reproduction! I’m a longtime collector. Not a dealer, and over the past 50 years I have collected a great variety of historical memorabilia. After retiring, I decided it was time to sell some of the items fr

In near VG or better condition. Small minor age spotting or soiling in spots, overall quite clean and presentable[note: we grade very conservatively and always seek to disclose any noteworthy flaws] The printed area remains visually pleasing. A fine impression of an interesting antique map which will look nice when displayed. Sheet measures c. 13 5/8" H x 8 7/8" W. Printed area measures c. 11 1/4" H x 8 1/4" W. 25579] Any defects along the sheet edges and in the margins may be seen in the photos. note: All ... moreold sheets of printed paper possibly have short edge splits. Each sheet has existed for a very long time and has probably been handled repeatedly in the course of it's existence. It has a history unique to it as an object. Most of the time any edge splits are short. Minor, insignificant and have been closed- either long ago or more recently with small pieces of archival tape. Most often these splits are trivial and easy to overlook visually. Basically, they would not significantly affect the piece adversely. The item is offered as seen. The large label was applied to bundles of 6 Unific tubes that had been wrapped in brown paper. The small fragment must have been a label for one of their agents. Probably H A Rogers, USA. The label used for‘Unific’ in the UK was blue and would not have used the word‘Scotch’ The Perth tubes wrapper had an identical white label. Moncrieff supplied tubing to agents in six foot lengths the agents then cutting to the final size. I presume they were supposed to mark and not just label cut lengths! The Unific tubes fluoresce a watery orange colour under both long and short wave UV. The“Perth” tubes do not fluoresce. Quality of wrapping and labels suggest 1930-1950. But these were in production for a long time. Monax’ brand gauge glass panel with prisms. Obviously from the modern period but no post code showing so probably pre 1980. The two supplied gaskets/pads are not asbestos as mentioned in the 1933 catalogue. Moncrieff glass tube cutter. Raised text‘Moncrieff’s Genuine Glass Tubes’ on one side of the handle and‘H. A. NOTES: Upon request we can set your gemstones as a ring. Pendant, or as earrings(click for more information) DETAIL: Ancient cultures attributed many mystical properties to quartz crystals. They were particularly used in sorcery. Magic, and witchcraft in part due to the"secret magical powers" evidenced by the weak electrical charge quartz crystals carry. Here's a very uncommon semi-precious gemstone from Victorian-era Scotland, specifically Mount Cairngorm. Very popular in 18th and 19th ... morecentury Victorian Scotland, this gemstone is known either as“Smoky” or“Cairngorm” Quartz. Generally“crystal” clear, the smoky tone is caused by the natural radiation emanating from granite stone the quartz is exposed to while buried in the earth. This is a very handsome, very large pear cut smoky quartz crystal gemstone. This particular specimen is completely transparent, with beautiful sparkle and luster. It is exceptionally clean, water clear, and very bright. It is gorgeous smoky brown color. The gemstone was hand crafted and faceted by a 19th century Russian artisan, part of an heritage renown for the production of the elaborate gemstones and jewelry of the Czars of Medieval, Renaissance, and Victorian Russia. Under magnification the gemstone shows the unmistakable characteristics of having been hand crafted. The coarseness of the 19th century finish is considered appealing to most gemstone collectors. And is not considered a detriment, or detract from the value of a gemstone. These characteristics are not only expected of hand-finished gemstones, most serious collectors consider such gemstones more desirable, possessed of greater character and uniqueness when compared to tod
