Set of 4 Antique Sterling Teaspoons Chas Jamieson Inverness Scotland CJ-CJ
This is an interesting set of 4 antique sterling silver spoons. Previously we'd thought they were f rom the Channel Island of Jersey. The visible marks are J and CJ. However. Upon further examination, the top mark has a faint C before the J, most visible on only one particular spoon, unfortunately. It looks as though it was half stamped on purpose, perhaps for a dodgy reason. It's hard to know. This said, we now believe these spoons were made by Chas Jamieson of Inverness Scotland, c 1800. These spoons are 5.5” long and weigh in total 2.5 troy ounces. They’re in good condition for their age. The shelf at the tip of the spoon is still intact, they were probably used very little. A very interesting set for a collector! PLEASE READ BEFORE YOU BID* PAYMENT: Winning bidders and"buy it now" shoppers. Please pay for your items ... morewithin 3 days of auction's end or purchase. Set of 6 Antique Sterling Teaspoons Chas Jamieson Inverness Scotland CJ-CJ
This is an interesting set of 6 antique sterling silver spoons. These spoons are 5 ¼” long and weigh in total 2.8 troy ounces. They’re in fair condition for their age. One has a bit of tip wear. A very interesting set for a collector! ANTIQUE SCOTTISH FURNITURE - SCOTLAND CHAIR TABLE CHEST SOFA CUPBOARD & More!
Scottish Vernacular Furniture” By Bernard D. Cotton. Published in New York by Thames& Hudson in 2008. description continues below the picture- DISCUSSION: Heavily illustrated with 450 color photos and 100 additional black and white figures. This catalog offers a complete and authoritative study available of regional furniture design and use in Scotland. It looks closely at a social history and at lifestyles that are at some levels primitive and at others surprisingly sophisticated. If not always high art, vernacular furniture proves that limited resources need not exclude aesthetic quality, nor must the functional imperative exclude beauty and charm. In writing this book, Bernard Cotton and his wife Gerry made it a priority to see pieces in their contexts, to meet the people who used them, and to understand how they were made. The story ... moreof their quest is itself an adventure, and the objects he photographed often represent the life and death of a community, the vital relics of a vanished culture. DESCRIPTION: Hardcover. 10”x12.5” 304 pages, 412 color and 132 black& white illustrations, dust jacket. CONDITION NOTES: In fine. Clean condition. Antique Framed Map Dumbrittonshire By T Kitchin Dunbartonshire Scotland
While I have not removed this map from the frame. My feeling is that it is an original antique hand-coloured map dating to the latter part of the 18th century. It is entitled"A Map Of Dumbrittonshire Drawn From The Beft Authorities By T Kitchin" Not only is the spelling of the Scottish county of Dunbartonshire interesting, but I also noted that the town of Helensburgh did not exist then with its forbear"Caple" taking its place. It was also interesting to note the marking of"Severen's Wall" There is a faint, old crease down the centre of the map, but otherwise, it is in very good condition. The frame measures approx 12.375" 31.5cm) x 11.5" 29.1cm) while the map is 6.625" 16.8cm) x 5.75" 14.5cm)
