Scarce Death Valley report contains striking colorful maps BIG maps are NOT bound into book. But stored in separate pocket on back cover! They don't make'em like this any more; gorgeous colorful maps would look great framed Map of Bat Mountain fan. Ash Meadows Quadrangle in California; photo shows map detail not whole map) Real map is about 15.25 inches X 22 inches, four colors, about 2 inches = 1,000 meters; north of SR 190, Bat Mountain is in the Funeral Mountains. H onestly. The real prizes here are the maps. They are knock-down gorgeous! Amazing that a fairly mundane feature like alluvial fans would translate into such a stunning pictorial representation! The pictures in this ad just don't do the maps justice. Not that the report is a loser by any means: Besides being the hottest and lowest place in North America. Death Valley ... moreis world renowned for its alluvial fans. This is the only full-length report on those alluvial fans beautiful fan-shaped accumulations of rocks and soils, filling the edges of the valley. Report is hard to find And this report and maps are very hard to find. You won't see them tucked between the Slim Jims and souvenir Death Valley ashtrays at Ye Olde Stovepipe Wells Gift Shoppe. I rarely run into this report any more. Most are grabbed up by collectors before they reach the open market. Frankly. I was very pleasantly surprised when I first carefully removed and unfolded the five colorful maps from the back pocket of this 36-year-old(1965) report, Alluvial Fans in the Death Valley Region California and Nevada(cover below) Each was seemingly more striking than the last(see scans below) I never would have guessed that measuring and mapping alluvial fans would translate into such esthetically pleasing pieces. Maps would look great framed Two in particular(details in top and bottom scans) would look great framed in an office. An office reception area or in just about any room in your home.
