With a horizontal ... morecentrefold. T he map is in very good condition with one proviso. A lovely clear and very bright impression with no fading. Very clean with no foxing or uneven browning. Lovely colouring and great decorative value. There is some crinkly creasing that actually looks fine and in-keeping. The only significant condition issue is that there are remnants of paste on much of the verso and bubbling along the old binding material along the centrefold; I assume that the map was glued to a backing at some stage and was subsequently removed. Thankfully without damage to the paper. In terms of the map image itself, it appears clean when looked at flat but when held at a certain angle to the light you can make out quite a few patches of thin shininess; maybe seeped through from the verso. The map will be rolled and posted in a tube. First class postage in the UK is £2.70 plus £1.00 packaging giving a P&P total of £3.70. Many thanks for your interest. Special not just because of its rarity but also because the survey of the Island to construct this map. Were undertaken by George Thomas onboard HMS Northumberland in 1815. The ... moreNorthumberland. Under the command of Rear Admiral Sir George Cockburn, was responsible for transporting Napoleon to the Island after his defeat at the battle of Waterloo. And so the surveys would have been carried out by Thomas, after delivering Napoleon to the Island and would have been used by the Royal Navy as intelligence in case of a rescue or kidnap attempt on Napoleon. I have been able to locate only one other copy of the map in the Bibliothèque nationale de France. The map has extensive depth soundings as well as coastal navigation points with text on both the Barn& Sperry Ledge and remarks on sunken rocks off Mundens Point and James Town. The map was published by John Horsburgh Hydrographer to the East India Company on January 1st 1817. Admiral of the Fleet Sir George Cockburn. 10th Baronet( 22 April 1772– 19 August 1853) was a Royal Navy officer. As a captain he was present at the battle of Cape St Vincent in February 1797 during the French Revolutionary Wars and commanded the naval support at the reduction of Martinique in February 1809 during the Napoleonic Wars. He also directed the capture and burning of Washington on 24 August 1814 as an advisor to Major G

For auction is this nice antique early 1900's Northumberland Star pattern quilt. That is all hand stitched, and hand quilted, measuring 69"x83" Quilt is made from all early cotton fabrics of feed sack, shirting, calico, novelty print& gingham. Backing is an old cotton novelty print sack cloth with balloons and a child, very cute. Great colors of red. Brown, blue, green, cream, grey, yellow, pink, tan. Quilt is in wonderful condition for its age, but does have age stains that can be cleaned using proper cleaner for antique textiles and linens. Age stains are mostly on backing where there is a fold stain. Just a great old quilt that would make a great addition to a collection. Or use for country primitive decor, or display. For your consideration and for auction I offer a MUG COMMEMORATING THE NORTHUMBRIAN HEROINE GRACE DARLING. This commemorative earthenware mug. A rare survivor, stands 4" 10.2cm) in height and shows a view of Grace Darling rowing out to the distressed Forfarshire in order to rescue survivors. The mug is printed all round with polychrome underglaze images of the heroine. Seperated by the dates of her life and death. The mug has been finished off attractively with a decorated handle and inner rim. The rim having a nibble, the base having a star crack, both to be seen in the images. In the early hours of 7 September 1838. Grace, looking from an upstairs window of the Longstone Lighthouse, her father William being the keeper of the light on the Farne Islands which lie off the coast of Northumberland, spotted the wreck and survivors of the ... moreForfarshire on Big Harcar. A nearby low rocky island. The ship had foundered on the rocks and broken in half, one of the halves had sunk during the night. She and her father determined that the weather was too rough for the lifeboat to put out from Seahouses took a rowing boat across to the survivors. A distance of nearly a mile. Grace kept the rowing boat steady in the water while her father helped four men and the lone surviving woman, Mrs. Dawson, into the boat. Although she survived the sinking. Mrs Dawson had lost her two young children during the night. William and three of the rescued men then rowed the boat back to the lighthouse. Grace then remained at the lighthouse while William and three of the rescued crew members rowed back and recovered four more survivors. Collecting souvenirs was an obsession in Victorian times. In most homes shelves. Tables and dressers were filled with dozens of unrelated objects and figures. WWI Honourable Discharge Certificate SQMS R Barras Northumberland Hussars 1916
This honourable discharge certificate was awarded to SQMS Robert Barras after he was injured in World War I and medically discharged from his regiment. The Nothumberland Hussars. Designed by Bernard Partridge, the certificate states that"SQMS Barras served with honour and was disabled in the Great War. Honourably discharged on 14.4,1916" and it bears a printed signature of King George V. On the rear it bears an issue stamp signed by the Officer of Cavalry Records at York dated 6.5.1919. It is in very good condition as can be seen from the photograph, very clean with only a very slight crease near the left hand margin and it is offered at a low starting price, so enjoy bidding and good luck!

RECOLLECTIONS THE DIARY OF JOSEPH SAMS Edited by Simon Braydon& Robert Songhurst On 21 st September 1874. Joseph Sams, a nineteen-year-old Londoner embarked at Gravesend on the‘Northumberland’ as an emigrant bound for Australia. Hardly anything is known of Joseph Sams before his embarkation and the last glimpse we have of him is as he steps out into‘the great and prosperous city of Melbourne’ Nonetheless. One short period in Joseph Sams’ life, the eight-week voyage from England to Australia, is vividly recorded in the Diary he kept of the passage. How the Diary survived and found its way back to England is a mystery but when Captain Simon Braydon bought it in 1964– auctioned with other miscellaneous items for ten shillings– he soon recognised that here was an account transcending the biographical interest of the obscure Joseph Sams. He ... morewas a spirited. Intelligent and genial young man, as the evidence of the Diary makes clear. But what counts is that his experience. Conveyed in his own words with such startling freshness, was that of the many hundreds who made the long and sometimes hazardous voyage to a new life. The late Captain Simon Braydon and his friend Robert Songhurst have supplemented this illustrated edition of the Diary with useful information on nineteenth-century emigration to Australia and the results of their own research on Joseph Sams and the‘Northumberland’ This 1982 1 st edition hardback publication is in very good overall condition. The pages are tightly bound and are free from tears. Creases and significant marks other than some age-related discolouration to the page edges. 150th Anniversary First National Trust Bank Northumberland County Jar
This has the box with it even though it looks old plus the tag that says made by Clevenger Bros Glass Works. It says on one side 1831-1981 150th Anniv First National Trust Bank and the other has around the jar the towns of Shamokin Dam. Beavertown, Oaklyn, Sunbury, Mount Carmel, Kulpmont, Pennsylvania. It is hard to take a picture of it because of the clear glass. It has a corked top which the cork was never removed. Measures approx 8 inches long and the widest part is 5.5 wide. January- 1929 Borough of Shamokin and Vicinity Northumberland County. Pennsylvania Scale 1" = 650' H.F. Reinhardt. Borough Engineer Map Compliments of Leroy Thomas for Commissioner of Northumberland County This list is for a vintage folded map which was apparently given out by Mr. Reinhardt who was running for Commissioner of Northumberland County. PA. I did some online research and saw that Harry Reinhardt was elected in 1918 to the position of Engineer for the Borough of Shamokin, PA if this is the same person. Map has the date January 1929 written on it. Paper is a cream color with black lettering and illustration. Measures 17" by 9.25" Condition is Good minus(see guide below) because the former owner. Likely back in the 1929 time period, handwrote in blue pen the last names of 4 families with arrows pointing to places ... moreon the streets. It is likely these are the places where the people lived. Paper has a fold in half, some creases, light rub and scuff, some soiling marks on front and back, slight separation on the fold seam. Please be sure you are ok with the condition and quality before buying as your satisfaction is important. Item is being sold“as is” as was found. Luscomb, ten crewmen and one passenger. It carried Tobacco, rum, cordage, dry goods, powder kegs, pitch, bread, cask nails, flour, shingles, lumber and onions. it was delivered to Thomas Chown. He was a English citizen working for the British government in the Gambia/Sierra Leone part of West Africa. The Northumberland was a 176 ton brig made in Baltimore, Maryland. it sunk in 1850. ANTIQUE 1842 SAMPLER BY MABLE MOOR OF THROPHILL NORTHUMBERLAND AGED TEN
Antique embroidery sampler from 1842. Completed by Mable Moor of Throphill. Northumberland aged 10 years. I have carefully removed it from its frame which was damaged. The label on the back indicates it was framed at one time in Nairobi but it has made its way back to Northumberland. In is in good condition with no holes or fabric damage. Just some minor wear on some letter where the odd stitch may be missing. Some of the colours will have changed in the last 171 years and the background cloth has dark and light areas. Size is approx. 36 cm by 24 cm. Buyer pays postage.
