This will be evident in the scanned images. Which are high quality and unedited. The maps are untrimmed and are suitable for framing. Remarks The quality of these maps surpasses that of most. If not all, its American-produced contemporaries. These maps are much nicer than any of the Rand McNally or Cram's Atlas editions I've seen. I am auctioning a number of these antique maps- They are all original and are taken from ` A new and Comprehensive Gazetteer of England and Wales by James Bell and published by A Fullerton and Co Edinbirgh and Glasgow MDCCCXXXIV(1834) I dont usually take maps from books but this gazetteer was falling apart anyway and the maps were coming loose. The maps measure approx 28cm x 23cm. They are a bit browned and foxed, which to me makes them look better anyway due to their age. 1627 Lovely Keere/Speed Map of Shropshire, England
1627 Keere Map- Shropshire Pieter van den Keere was perhaps the finest map engraver of the late 1500's and early 1600's. His name can be found on beautiful miniature maps issued by Bertius. Blaeu and Jansson among others. He was the brother-in-law of his only real rival for the title of champion engraver, Jodocus Hondius and worked with him on many projects. One of his last efforts, issued in the year of his death, was a miniature world atlas of 20 maps derived from those of the great English mapmaker, John Speed. Combined with his earlier English county maps these have come to be known as the'miniature Speed' and were issued by Speed's publisher, George Humble. They have become very popular among collectors. This map of Shropshire comes from the 1627 edition of'England. Wales, Scotland and Ireland described and abridged ... morefrom a farr(sic) larger Voloume(sic) done by John Speed' Many towns and cities are noted, and the topography is nicely illustrated. Moll's origins are disputed with some suggesting he was born in the Netherlands and others Germany- the Moll name was common in both countries during this period. Most likely Moll was a German from Bremen. As his will, friends, and contemporaries suggest. What is known for certain is that he moved to London in 1678, possibly fleeing the Scanian War, where he worked as an engraver for Moses Pitt and other London map publishers. Around the turn of the century, Moll set up his own shop where he produced a large corpus of work known for its high quality and decorative flair. As a new émigré to England, Moll made himself more English than the English, and through his cartography proved a fierce advocate for his adopted nation. John Rocque was a surveyor and cartographer. The son of French Huguenot's who came to England in 1709. In addition to his work as surveyor and mapmaker. Rocque was an engraver and map-seller. Rocque is now mainly remembered for his map of London. He began work on this in 1737 and it was published in 24 printed sheets in 1747. It was by far the most detailed map of London published up to that time, and remains an important historical resource. The map of London and his other maps brought him an appointment as cartographer to the Prince of Wales in 1751. A fire in 1750 destroyed his premises and stock. 1757 Bellin Map- Carte de la Nouvelle Angleterre. Nouvelle Yorck, et Pensilvanie' J.N. Bellin provided a huge number of maps for L'Abbe Prevost's'Histoire Generale des Voyages' A 25 volume plus work describing the discoveries, journeys and settlements of seventeenth and early eighteenth century European powers. Many of these maps were issued in Dutch and German as well as French. This map comes from a 1757 French edition of'Histoire. The pre-revolutionary map shows the present day American states of New York. New Jersey, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Maine. New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, Connecticut. The map has excellent detail showing the major cities, towns and villages, the Indian Territories, and several forts, and the topography is finely illustrated. It has an elegant title cartouche with a scale of distance. The ... moremap measures 7" by 11.5" with several folds(as issued) Has later outline hand colouring, and is in only fairly good condition with a fair amount wear of the paper along the fold lines, a small reinforcement to one intersection of two folds, a repair to a 1" tear at the left border, a strip of paper has been added to the upper left margin where that margin was narrow, and there is a small repair to a 1/2" tear at the right margin/border. One 1890 Dated Map of New England States - B18
Offered here is a 1890 dated map of New England States. The actual map measures approximately 11.5 by 26 inches and they were removed from the Library Reference Atlas of the World by John Bartholomew. Both maps are in good condition though there is crease down the center where the map was bound into the book. The white streak in some of my photos is the reflection from my flash. Can't seem to get rid of it. I have had some of these maps professional framed and they look great. If you are not satisfied, I will refund your money less shipping. Genuine antique"County Map of England& Wales" from New General Atlas published by S Augustus Mitchell Jr in Pennsylvania. 1860. Original hand color outline and washes show separate counties. Coastline is nicely detailed and counties, cities, and waterways are named. Bright colors and a lovely twining leaf and flower border makes this a very attractive map. Faint age toning.
