1884“COLTON'S ENGLAND AND WALES” Map Antique Vintage 17” x 26” Colton’s Map of England” G.W. C.B. Colton& Co. This is a folded map that is adhered to the inside of a small hardcover. When unfolded the map measures 17” by 26” approximately. It is dated 1884 When folded up. The small book is 3 ¾” by 5 ¾” The map appears to be hand tinted to me. The map is a bit brittle. There are small splits at the cross folds. One corner was dog-eared and along one side the paper was mis-folded. The map is clean and unmarked. The binding is pretty nice. The spine is rubbed through in one small spot and in one ¾” long spot. Inside. The hinge is split. Please look carefully at the photos and ask questions. I am not a“Map” person. 1627 Keere Map- Worcestershire Pieter van den Keere was perhaps the finest map engraver of the late 1500's and early 1600's. His name can be found on beautiful miniature maps issued by Bertius. Blaeu and Jansson among others. He was the brother-in-law of his only real rival for the title of champion engraver, Jodocus Hondius and worked with him on many projects. One of his last efforts, issued in the year of his death, was a miniature world atlas of 20 maps derived from those of the great English mapmaker, John Speed. Combined with his earlier English county maps these have come to be known as the'miniature Speed' and were issued by Speed's publisher, George Humble. They have become very popular among collectors. This map of Worcestershire comes from the 1627 edition of'England. A 19th Century Map STANFORD'S Portable Map of ENGLAND& WALES With THE RAILWAYS CLEARLY DELINEATED THE CITIES AND TOWNS Distinguished according to their Population etc. THE MOUNTAINS AND HILLS carefully reduced from the ORDNANCE SURVEY LONDON- EDWARD STANFORD- 55 Charing Cross. July 2nd 1875 This is a large linen backed folded map measuring approx 75cm x 80cms. The red cloth cover is in worn condition- mostly on the spine at the folds where the cloth is torn and split. The map is still firmly attached to the cover. The map has a small amount of wear at the linen folds and there is a 2cm tear in the fold where it attaches to the cover. Taken from a series of English county maps, which would have been first published in about 1830. This map of Lancashire has an elaborate and decorative style(a synthesis of art and cartography) which sets it apart from most other maps of the same period. With a plain unembellished style which owes much to the pioneering work of the Ordnance Survey. The map conveys a picture of an England where'ancientness' could still be found in abundance. This was an England where history was still alive in ancient country houses. Parish churches with their escutcheoned Gothic memorials and tombs, in market towns and market places and in a landscape that still offered'scenes, ... moresituations and prospects remarkable for extent and beauty. The map is 50cm x 40cm and has been reproduced onto an Ivory card. In good condition with good colours however. Bacon's Map of South East and Central England G W Bacon ~ Circa 1900 You are bidding for and early 20th century Map of South East and Central England Multi-folding linen backed fully coloured map consisting of 20 linen-backed panels housed in a Maroon hardback cloth cover approximately 9½inchs x 9½inchs The Cover is in reasonable condition. The Map side of the linen is in Good Condition with Vibrant Colours. The back of the map has one patch of the linen that has at sometime been affected by damp but it does not spoil the appearance of the coloured Map on the other side. IL USA 1953 This is an amazing vintage map that depicts the location of significant literary works in New England. I has locations mapped out for the locales where many well known literary works took place or were written. It was purchased as surplus and originally belonged to the English Department at the University of Michigan. It does have some yellowing from age and there is also some fraying and small tears along the very edges of the canvas. This map is contained in the original steel case and has a properly working spring system that automatically retracts the map after use. Measures about 43" wides and 65" tall. From the Bacon’s Excelsior School Maps Series. Undated but early 20th Century. An attractive and colourful segmented map. With faults.It measures approx 74cm x 99cm; divided into 9 paper segments and mounted on linen, as issued. Metal ring holes to upper corners. The paper is generally clean and bright. With some riding up at corners and mild dog-earing; some soft creasing, slightly harder along top horizontal fold. Holes in the linen at intersections; otherwise what’s visible of the linen between the paper segments looks pretty clean with just one or two noticeably browner bits. On the verso staining on the linen. Not really impacting the map itself. The marbled pieces of paper on the folded end sections are tatty with losses. Sept, 1781 for Universal Magazine. Fascinating late-18th century engraved map of Quebec and the surrounding region. Including most of New England. Includes the original printed leaf which accompanied the map in the 1781 issue of the British periodical. Remarkable for its historical significance. As the map was created during the American Revolution as well during wartime in Canada, and depicts most of New England down to Long Island and across to Albany in New York. Depicts Vermont some 10 years prior to statehood, with New Hampshire encompassing it. Newport is actually shown as an island within an enormous ... morebay, no mention of any mountains within NH, fishing banks noted, etc. Both the plan and the text clippings mounted in spots along their outer edges to an off-white. Heavy stock paper(as seen in photos) In Good to near VG. Mostly clean, well-preserved condition overall, map blank margins trimmed narrow right to the neatlines(which are visible all around) couple short fold-line splits cleanly mended on verso with archival tape, faint offsetting to a couple small areas within the map which do not detract visually. The text leaf has been mounted to the larger backing sheet along the left edge so it allows for reading both sides. Backing sheet measures c. 16 1/4" W x 11 7/8" H.
