The map shown, the paper is aprox 19 1/2 by 27 inches, with the printed map a bit smaller(as you can see in the pics)the paper is thin, and shows some edge wear, zoom in on the pics for good detail, very hard to find in this larger scale. i have many from this book available, it is not dated but comes from the late 1800's. This map is dated 1907 and measures just under 15.5 inches by unst over 19.25" The map's subject is Connecticut: New London sheet. It includes the Thames River and Montville. Waterford, Preston, Groton and New London. The path of the New York New Haven and Hartford Railroad is marked on the map. It is in good condition for its age. With minor yellowing and some age related discoloration. This is one of many similar maps that will be listed. We are happy to combine items to help save mailing costs. Here is the information about the map. From its reverse side: The United States Geological Survey is making a topographic map of the United States. This work has been in progress since 1882. And about three-tenths of the area of the country, excluding outlying possessions, has been mapped. This great map is being published in atlas sheets of convenient ice. Which are bounded by parallels and meridians. 1613 Drayton Poly-Olbion Middlesex London Herts Thames Map Antique Old St Albans
A very early 17th century"map" taken from Michael Drayton's"Poly-Olbion. Or Chorographical Description of all the Tracts, Rivers, Mountains, Forests and Other Parts of the Renowned Isle of Great Britain. First published in 1612-13, with an enlarged edition issued 1622. Scarce. These strange and rare images are perhaps not maps in the sense that we think of them today. Though"Chorography" is described as"the process or technique of mapping or describing particular districts or regions" I had to look it up! Possibly engraved by William Hole, they are less concerned with Geographical accuracy, and more with capturing the Spirits and Deities that inhabit the Region- the woods, the hills, a few places, but most importantly the rivers. Here the Thames dominates on the left of the image(the map is unusually ... moreoriented with North facing to the right) but also given prominence are the rivers Colne, Lea, Bean, Mimer, and Sturt, with their spirits rising from them. Hampstead and Highgate are depicted as delightfully rural situations, and Watling Street(now the A1! has a charming image of a horse being led north. Size: The sheet is 36cms x 28cms. There is a page number 245 top right. Condition: In very good condition. With a centrefold as issued, and a strong platemark. Lovely handcolouring, presumed original. Description This is an antique map of Australia from around 1794 to 1805 in age. It is not titled or dated but was published by Laurie& Whittle so it is an early period map. It is so early that they dont call it Australia but they do call it NEW HOLLAND. It was probably part of a book or atlas and folded out. It measures 21x48 inches. I took a lot of pics to give you a good idea of the cities, coastline, etc. There are some condition issues such as aging to the paper turning it a little brown in areas, a few little rips, some typical border issues where the paper get a little crunched. It is so early that they dont have the underside of Australia charted as of that time period of between 1794-1805. Very Large Antique map: General Plan of the City of London, 1914
This magnificent map depicts the City of London in great detail. As it stood on the eve of the first world war in 1914. Streets and buildings are labelled, and overground and underground railways are shown. It is decorated in a restrained Edwardian, Art Nouveau style. It was created by Frank Sumner, Engineer to the Corporation of London(the governing body of the City of London) It is encased in the original cover. The map is printed on thick paper which appears to have been backed at the time of production on to an even thicker linen. There are as a result some heavy creases and a couple of small holes, but it could be flattened for framing and would look splendid on a large enough wall. Rare hand-colored antique map of Antoninus Pius's Wall in Scotland published by William Camden in London in 1789 in Britannia. The wall was 39 miles long and stretched from Old Kilpatrick in West Dunbartonshire on the Fifth of Clyde to Carriden near Bo'ness on the Firth of Forth. The sheet measures 17⅜ high by 10¼ inches wide. The intaglio is 13½ inches by 8⅜ inches wide. The sheet is in good condition. A superb double-page map published in The Illustrated London News magazine dated June 6. 1857 and entitled; Copy of Map Showing the Toll-Gates And Principal Bars Within Six Miles of Charing Cross Exhibited to Lord Palmerston by the Toll Reform Committee" Explanatory text printed in the magazine is taken from the internet below- the Reform Committee was recommending elimination of the tolls. The map was engraved by John Dower. Good condition with central fold as originally published. Related and unrelated text to the reverse. Dated in top margin. Page size 23 x 16 inches.
