The map sold for sixteen shillings for a colored copy in 1792 and was reprinted on a number of occasions. Apart from its incredible detail, Beaufort introduced a number of innovations including the first use of hachures, closely spaced lines depicting relief on a national map. He was rector of the Church of Ireland in Navan, a founding member of the Royal Irish Academy and a prominent member of the Royal Dublin Society. This map is in good vintage condition with splitting of some seams at the right side. Also some light pencil notations and minor staining (see photos). Shipping weight, well packed, is under 1 lb.

Excellent Rare Quality Antique New& Accurate 1740 Map of NORTH AMERICA(including Nootka Sound) the North East Coast of Asia. Newly Discovered Islands& British Isles. This Hand Engraved Copperplate map was'Published as the Act Directs by C. Cooke No. 17 Paternoster Row, London in 1740. The borders of the map and the Continents have been hand colored about 275 years ago and still looks amazingly crisp and vivid today. The sheet size is 14 3/4" x 19" with an Image Size of 10 1/4" x 17" with a Cooper Plate Impression Size of 17 1/2" x 11 1/4" and printed on a Laid Paper. c1850 Ordnance Survey First Series Edition Map Old Antique London Middlesex
A genuine First Series Ordnance Survey map of the West of London. And out further west into Middlesex, Buckinghamshire and Berkshire. To give you more idea of the area covered, Dulwich and Little Berkhamstead are in the East, Staines is to the South, Wargrove and Princes Risborough are to the West, and Hemel Hempstead and St Albans are to the North. A fascinating document. With"villages" like Hampstead and Ealing still separate from London. The only date on the map is 1822, which would be when it was first published. But this copy has at least 2 railways on it: The Great Western and the London and Birmingham railways, suggesting a date c 1845/50? Interestingly a later hand has added in pen some of the London railways as can be seen in the photo. This example. Which is in original green covers, is not in perfect condition, but it ... moreis thoroughly acceptable in its restored state containing much detail at 1" to 1 mile. When opened out it measures 96cms x 65cms. When folded 21.5cms x 12cms. Condition: The map has received some restoration work. But it has been done sympathetically. Repairs to folds, leaving evidence of old poor tape repairs in form of browning in some places which can be seen on the photos. The result is an acceptable map which is complete and readable throughout. Railways in London have been added by a later hand. I will send this free within the UK. The District Railway Map of London. A 5th Edition of this well-known map with fine printed colour showing the rail and underground links. This 5th edition has the Putney extension in a box top left. The map has splendid covers- alas this example has only one of two such covers. Still. A fine map of the capital at the start of the 20th century. The Tate Gallery is still a prison suggesting an even earlier date. Size: 105cms x 66cms. Folded: 18cms x 13.5cms. Condition: Lacks one cover. The cover that is present is scuffed a little. 1701 Rare Antique Map - "MIDDLESEX" - London - John Seller - Camden's Britannia
A rare antique map of"Nottinghamshire" in England. Drawn and engraved by John Seller and published in Camden's"Britannia Abridg'd" in 1701(see scan of frontispiece- not included) The map was first published five years earlier(1696) in John Seller's"Anglia Contracta" A travellers atlas of small maps which enjoyed considerable success and was printed in several editions from 1696 to 1703. This example, however, was published in Camden's Britannia Abridg'd of 1701(the year that John Seller died) again designed to be portable for the traveller. As testament to the quality of the maps the original engraved plates were purchased by Francis Grose some 70 years later and republished in The Antiquities of England and Wales between 1773 and 1787. However the original cartouches were simplified. John ... moreSeller's name removed( approximately two thirds of the 1701 maps carried his name- this one does) and the maps were published at the top of a page of text. The later Grose versions are therefore much less rare and are clearly distinguishable by including the text and not having the clear vertical folds which are featured in the originals as they were folded into the octavo sized publication.
