This was part of a LOT of ex BBC Broadcast film and TV stuff I bought( at great expence) at auction. It will have been well maintained but used professionally, so as a consequence this is not a mint perfect collectors item. I have no idea what mount it is. This is a LARGE RUG measuring 57 inches wide by 87 inches long(generally considered 5 ft. by 7 ft. The exact age of this rug is unknown. However, I client remembers it hanging in his parents home as far back as the late 1960's or early 1970's. He doesn't remember there ever being a time in his life that the rug was not a part of his home as a child. All of the colors are earth tone with black, browns, grays, yellow and natural(cream. The top ... moreand bottom borders of this rug have a bit of a braided look running from one end to the other. The sides of this rug are quite snug as there are two rows of triple cording running vertically within the rug. VERY CLOSE inspection within the weaves at the top and bottom of the rug prove that there was NEVER any fringe and NO strings turned into the weave. There is a very occassional sight of blue within the black yarn when you inspect it extremely close but no blue is seen upon casual viewing of the rug. Here and there through the rug you will come across what looks like knots in the yarn, perhaps where the artist had added a new strand and over time it worked itself out(just a guess. You can see a close up of one of these in the 14th photograph(black knot. Again, exact age is unknown as well as origin of the wool. Condition: There are NO tears! This rug hung folded over a rail for many years and was NEVER nailed to a wall or any other device. There are NO nail holes and NO corner pulls! There is a small hole(see closeup of hole on front and back) that goes all the way through. This hole appears to look like a melted spot. There is no darkness like a burn and no odor. But the fiber

Most of our pieces have spent decades on at least two continents. And have been treasured by several owners.  Small splits, scrapes and cracks are a normal part of their patina attesting to their age and extensive use. We examine each piece carefully when we receive it and report any damage we find in our listings. Please look carefully at the pictures which may also reveal condition and damage.  Damage/Repair, Stains. Wear, a couple of small holes We do not recommend laundering textiles. And do not ... moreaccept returns of textiles which have been laundered in any manner. Even dry cleaning is too much for some of these antique textiles. For some of them, a very gentle HAND washing(NEVER MACHINE, on any setting) in cool water with a very gentle detergent works, but even then, dyes may not be colorfast, and fabric may be less strong than it appears. Additional Information: A wonderful old textile in good condition and showing sign of long use. Strips are hand sewn together. This is a man's cloth and a very special one for its beautiful and complex patterns. Kente cloth is the royal cloth of the Ashante(Asante) of Ghana worn by both men and women during important ceremonies. Legend says that the Kente cloth weavers learned their skill from watching a spider. Anansi, who is a significant figure in African folklore. In many cases, the thread was obtained by carefully un-picking silk garments, and reweaving them. The looms have two or three heddles.
