I’ve recently inherited a huge library of vintage choral music which I will be listing in the next couple of weeks on eBay. It’s too much to list individual titles. But I will try to photograph as many as possible. They are from a choral director who worked in various settings. So there’s a mix of secular and sacred music, as well as arrangements for various types of choirs. I will sort it as much as possible by type of music, and type of choir, and show this at the top of the listing. Most of them are in good to very good used condition, but do have the person’s and some times the organization’s stamps on them. They were stored in filing cabinets and smell fine–no musty odors. All are the smaller format 7” x 10.5” size. The dates on the music in the library vary from 1890 to 1980. I am not a choral director, nor do I know much about it, but will try to describe each lot as accurately as possible. It is a huge piece and stands 20 1/2 inches tall. the opening is about 7 inches across. the base is about 8 inches wide. It has a bright red color with an optic effect in the design. Please note that the white spots in the photos are nothing more than reflections. This form can be documented in many of the Blenko books. It is free of cracks. Chips or damage. It is very clean. There are a few of specs of dirt on the very base that I could not reach to get. The glass is not sick. MODEL 1810-12 RUSSIAN GRENADIERS NAPOLEONIC ERA SHAKO W/HUGE HORSEHAIR PLUME
I bought this shako many years ago. I paid a fortune for it because I loved it and was assured that it was an original 1810-1812 Russian Grenadier's shako. It is very well made and in excellent condition. But I have come to believe that is the problem, that 200 year old hats just could not have held up so well, through a Revolution and two World wars in somebody's attic. I have seen several of these shakos lately at OUTRAGEOUS prices. So I am selling this one as a fantastic reproduction. This is still a really nice shako. Napoleonic wars era pattern 1810-1812 artillery shako. Made of black felt with laquered black leather top with characteristic large gilt-brass front plate with bomb flaming at top and both sides. Wonderfully stitched black leather reinforcements and visor. Leather backed gilt-brass chinscales. Braided white cotton ... moreshako cord suspended around the cap from the upper sides with a small tassel hanging at the left and two long cords and raquettes at the right. Hanging to the level of the breast. Huge parade pompom of bushy black horsehair or yack hair stands 17.5 inches above the top of the shako. The wonderfully wrapped plume stem is another four inches, and inserts with the red field badge into the well stitched holder. Linen liner with black leather sweatband. Very solid, very clean, and and very wearable. But not 200 years old. It is a size 60 and apparently made by Sergey Karrasev in Russia in the 70's. Another eBay member has written: For what it's worth. I sold a near-identical example from the collection of the noted Napoleonic scholar and enthusiast, Col. Don Robison. He said his shako was one of a small number crafted by a curator at one of Moscow's museums, back in the 1970s. Don had to smuggle his into the country, via Paris, in those Evil Empire days! I make and restore historical headgear all the time, and usually am underwhelmed by the reproductions I encounter, but was mightily impressed by this effort. Cheers! What I can tell you is the gentleman that passed was 93 and born and raised in Czechoslovakia. And moved to the states in the late 60's. And that this vase was brought from there. I do not know a year or maker of the vase. The research I have done it appears to what everyone is calling Moser. The vase is 12 in. Tall and 4 1/2 wide at the top. Which is not the widest point of the vase. I can not find as much as a scratch on it anywhere. It is in perfect shape. Please take the time to look at all the photos.
