Raised in 1685 in Nottingham by Sir William Clifton. 3rd Baronet, it was originally, like many British infantry regiments, known by the name of its current Colonel. Map by the legendary J. G. Bartholomew. Published around 1890. The map has been double mounted ready to frame. With double mount the overall size is 10 inches by 12 inches. The aperture is approximately 6 inches by 8 inches. There is another map on the reverse but that obviously does not show due to the mounting process. The atlas from which this map came was in distressed condition on the outside and some of the maps were loose and damaged but we have only mounted maps in good condition with the mount having been placed in a way that reveals only the very best portions of this very rare item. The auction is for the Victory Medal of 10093 PRIVATE JAMES ARTHUR LEE of THE 1st BATTALION EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT who was KILLED IN ACTION on JUNE 4th 1916 The medal comes with a short length of original silk ribbon. About four inches long, and the buyer will also receive the casualty print out shown in the photograph, as well as the A4 size copy of the recipient's medal index card, also pictured, which shows that he entered the war on September 9th 1914, and that he was also entitled to the 1914 Star and the British War Medal, which are both missing. It also confirms that he was killed in action, although there is no mention of any entitlement to the clasp for the 1914 Star. Old Tudor map of North & East Ridings of Yorkshire, Hull, Richmond: 1600's 1610
This is a copy of a map of the North& East Ridings of Yorkshire. England by John Speed and was initially printed in the 1600's. It was taken(very carefully! from the book"The Counties of Britain. A Tudor Atlas by John Speed" which was printed in 1988. The map has been printed in colour on 2 pages of good quality paper. It measures 40cm x 30cm and would look lovely framed. As well as the map of the North& East Ridings of Yorkshire there is a map of Hull and of Richmond. On the rear of the map is some information about the county which describes the history and geography as it was in the 1600's. Speed’s Atlas was the first to show all the counties of Britain with towns. Villages and boundaries as they were at the time as they were at the time of Elizabeth I. With the first known‘aerial’ maps of towns, illustrations ... moreof battles, portraits of royalty, it is an elaborate work of art.
