Atlas Novus" which eventually ran to 12 volumes and was published in several languages from 1635- 1662. The print shop and warehouse was destroyed by fire in 1672 and Willem's last son died the following year. This item recently was purchased at a local estate sale in a collection of military items from World War I. And this item is assumed to date to WW I although this has not been confirmed. This very attractive British Army Infantry hat badge is for the East Yorkshire Regiment. Extending across the bottom of the badge is a scroll with the name of the regiment. This badge appears to be composed of bronze that originally was provided with a gilt surface treatment and measures approximately 45 x 40 mm. There is no mark for either metal content or manufacturer. This item is in very good condition with very light wear. And the front retains much of its gilt coloration(although this is not evident in the photos) The lugs are missing. The item remains bright, and it would display quite well. With the military badge of the East Yorkshire Regt. XV" The large silver lid seems to have a slight hammered effect. It is hinged, and opens and closes fine, there is a hallmark on the underside of the lid with the date letter for London 1894. The makers mark is F.B.M. for Army& Navy Cooperative Society Ltd(Frederick Bradford Macrea) The inkwell rim has a number 64 on it. c1840 Two Original Antique Maps - EAST RIDING OF YORKSHIRE - Joshua Archer
Two original antique maps of parts of the East and West Ridings of Yorkshire. England covering territory from York to Doncaster. The base maps are the same but the color wash version shows more railway development and is probably 10 years later than the other. The maps date from the 1850's and were engraved by Joshua Archer(see below) the early development of the railway system is indicated on the maps(the first railway in the country began just to the north in Darlington, County Durham) Good condition. 1914-15 Star medal trio KIA Somme Casualty East Yorkshire Regiment from Hull
A 1914-15 Star trio all correctly impressed to: 17520 PTE. A. BIBBY. E. YORK. R. Albert Bibby of the 8th Battalion. East Yorkshire Regiment was killed in action in France on 13th November 1916. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial. The information contained in Soldiers Died in the Great War states that he was born and enlisted at Hull. The 8th Battalion East Yorkshires were part of the 3rd Army Division who were engaged at The Battle of the Ancre from 13th November to 18th November 1916. It was on the first day of this Battle that Pte.Bibby was killed in action. This was the final phase of the 1916 Somme Offensive. The medals are in excellent condition with modern ribbons. I will supply a copy of his Medal Index Card and Soldiers Died details to the winning bidder.
