Hagen Renaker miniature made in America Oriole bird bath retired hard to find
This is Oriole style two tail up. It was designed by Maxine Renaker(co founder of the company) It is item 982 and was in the line from 1976 until 1981. It was part of what was known as the Bird Bath Birds. It was designed to sit on the edge of the bird bath in the line at the time. It stands 1/4" tall. There were two versions one with the tail down and this one with the tail up. This piece is free from chips. Breaks or repairs unless I have specified above. Hagen is the only manufacturer of miniature ceramic animals left in the U.S. The company was founded in 1946 by Maxine and John Renaker. Maxine passed away a few years ago at the age of 89. The first factory was in Monrovia. CA but in 1962 it moved to San Dimas. The company continues under the leadership of their daughter to produce these lovely animals. One of the characteristics ... moreof ceramics is that as they age they develop small hairline cracks in the finish called crazing. This is normal and is not considered a flaw. If you see some residue around the bottom it is just the paper from the sticker. It comes off with warm soapy water. Now speaking of the sticker or the card. Hagen Renaker offers their miniatures either with or without a card. Cards were for the benefit of some retailers so they could price the items and to reduce breakage on the shelf. They were never intended to be displayed. Once purchased, with the card, this would be as tacky as Minnie Pearl leaving the price tags on her hats. Many. Many pieces are shipped at the customer’s request without a card. Cards add nothing to the value of a piece except to prove to untrained collectors that they are authentic. Some of my pieces have cards others do not. If they have a card chances are it will not be pristine. The heater was made by Lawson Room Heaters.a company from Ironton. Ohio. The piece has a lot of Cast Iron used in its production.not flimsy like the models made a few years later. This one dates to the early 1900's.with the earliest marked patent date at 1910. The heater stands about 14 inches tall.with a slim depth.measuring about.5 inches. The width is about 7 inches.across the main body.up to about 10 1/2 inches when you add on the valve or gas connection. The stove has been taken all of the way apart.then it was cleaned and I believe it was sand blasted. It has been refinished in a High Heat Stove Rated Paint. The stamp used for postage is identified in the Scott catalog as an illustration A46 and has a faint purple"target" or"bull's eye" cancel. The postmark is purple and is from Bath, NY with the date Oct 8, 1877. The preprinted return area directs that after ten days the letter should be returned to Warren W Oxx, Attorney and Collectng Agent, Bath, Steuben Co, NY. There are numerous numerical annotations on the front and back of the envelope. The cover was opened roughly on the elft side and the top and botoom seams are split to the extent shown in the last scan I have provided. The enclosed letter is in wonderful condition.
