Old Sheffield Silver Plate 4 Piece Melon Form Tea Set circa 1830 Gorgeous melon form Old Sheffield Plate tea set with applied shell decoration and figural floral knobs. The set includes tea pot. Coffee pot, open sugar and creamer. The sugar and creamer both have gold washed interiors. The teapot has a good clean silver interior, while the coffee pot has a zinc interior. This is true Old Sheffield fused silver on copper plate, not silverplate, as can be seen by the seams where edging has been applied. You can also see the seam in the side of the coffee pot, showing how it was raised from the sheet. It dates to the 1830- 1840 period. The little four-petal flowers in the applied decoration are typical design for the 1830s- you find them all over, painted in gold, molded in porcelain, and applied on silver. There is no maker's mark, as is ... morethe case with most Old Sheffield Plate. The teapot is 6 1/2 inches tall by 10 1/2 inches wide from spout to handle. The coffee pot is 8 1/2 inches tall by 10 inches wide from spout to handle. The creamer and the sugar are both 4 1/2 inches tall. The set weighs 6 lbs 6 oz(shipping weight 10 lbs) Condition: Very good overall. But with several repairs to the handles. Both coffee and tea pot have had repaired pins on the handles; and both handles show rosing. The teapot handle is a little loose due to shrinkage of the spacer, and it has a repair to the knob. The coffee pot also shows rosing on one side of the body. The creamer and the sugar have a design in which the handles are only attached at the base. This was obviously not very strong as both handles show multiple repairs, with some rosing near the handles. The pieces also show copper on the feet, as you would expect to see. A commanding 3Gal. Ovoid Jug with a cobalt-washed stamp that reads: S. PURDY. This is a relatively uncommon mark and that of Portage County(OH) potter. Solomon Purdy(originally from Vermont) This is a sturdy, well-made Ovoid with excellent proportion. There is minor discoloration near the base, and a small chip on the lower portion of the tooled rim(front) otherwise mint. No cracks, repaired damage or restoration work. See photos for details, close-ups and further description. This a very heavy piece of salt-glazed stoneware, weighing nearly 14 lbs. A pretty early child's mug decorated with the transfer scene of the parlour game Hunt the Thimble. The colour applied by hand over a sepia print. Very interesting subject, but sadly damaged. The game of Hunt the Thimble involves hiding a thimble or other small object and the the rest of the party trying to find it. The group of children on the floor seem to have a small object beside them. Wrapped up, Pass the Parcel style. Although all the detail is fabulous. I particularly like the man and cat at the fireside with detailed chair and fire irons! There is also a great mirror and other interesting period detail. She is hand painted in white and cobalt blue with a floral patterned dress and a pale pink apron. She is barefoot and wears a little sky blue cap on her head. Standing on a green with brown painted base she is leaning against a tree painted as such. The round base sides are painted in gold dashes and outlined in gold. The only other gold is on the bodice on her dress. The hand painted partial blue crown mark with letter N on the back bottom dates her to being made between 1782- 1834. After extensive online& offline research including my book I own on Capodimonte Collectibles I would tend to date her to around ... more1820-1830 and before Ginori took over the factory. Capodimonte Italian porcelain since the 18 th century was heavily influenced by German and French styles. Her face looks to me to be more German then Italian in feature and her base more in the neoclassical French style. She is in excellent near mint condition for her age.All I see are a few porcelain mold dimple flaws and a very tiny bit of paint loss. I do not see any chips. Cracks crazing or repairs to this delightful figure. This figure was bought at auction by its previous owner and the outside of the back bottom has Capodimonte plus its model number 926 hand written by the auction house the rim. Thumb Back Windsor side chair with dowel pinned joints, slender, tapered turned rod like spindles joined into a thick plank carved seat. Spindles on the back are attached to the crest rail and seat with dowel pinned joints. Legs like the spindles and 2 thumb back side stiles all go directly into the plank seat which is the signature of all Windsor chairs. MEASURMENT: 32 ½ inches overall high to top of thumbs. 16 ½ inches from seat to floor, 13 inches seat width x 14 ½ inches deep. RARE 1830's G.W. Bartholomew Bristol CT Pillar Clock Acorn Finials ~ NEEDS TLC
Here you are looking at a very rare estate find. It is an antique pillar clock made by G.W. Bartholomew in Bristol. CT. I know it was from the 1830's because he made these clocks alone until 1840. His cousin, Eli Bartholomew joined him then and they were called E& G.W. Bartholomew after that. This wooden works pillar clock looks great but needs a little work. The finials are acorns. It is 32 inches tall and 16 1/2 inches wide. Included is the pendulom, the key to the cabinet, a winder, and one weight. Condition can be seen in the pictures. Nice early Gothic Mahogany Mirror with Reverse painted tablet showing great color with great Coastal New England Cape Cod view. This Mirror could use some repairs or looks fine as is( I like unrestored as found pieces)The bottom foot on bottom of mirror is gone as is the small piece of moulding that separates the two pieces of Glass. One of the hang down reverse finials is also gone. I really like this mirror and will hang it in my own home if it doesn't go in yours. The Colors are great. LARGE EARLY 19TH CENTURY LINEN & SILK MOTIF SAMPLER C.1830
Early 19th century linen& silk work motif sampler dating to c.1830. This sampler is fascinating. The entire area of the linen is decorated with over twenty different finely stitched motifs of various designs- stags. Floral baskets, dogs, trees, garlands, all surrounded by a meandering floral border. The linen has hardly any discolouration and the colours of the silks are good. As can be seen from the photographs, there are areas of damage on the linen and some stitch work is missing but this is still a wonderful way of seeing a variety of motif designs that were used on samplers all those years ago. A rare early 19th c. Pennsylvania painted& chip carved house form salt box. C. 1830. This early salt box is in the form of an early saltbox house& retains much of its early green paint. The ironwork is wonderful, the latch is in the from of a tear drop& the iron is held in place with early square nails. The surface is excellent& the carvings are very well done. It retains an early green paint, probably added in the early 20th c. Early chip carved decorated boxes are quite scarce. This style of carving was used for embellishing picture frames& other small objects of the first quarter of the 19th century& is slightly reminiscent of the raised ornamentation found on tramp art of a later period. This is the perfect size to display anywhere, measuring 6 1/4" wide 6" tall& 3 3/4" deep. The border is deeply scalloped and the colors of the hand decorated flowers and leaves include a deep forest green. Rich deep pink, and bright royal blue.The body is a finely potted earthenware and the condition is just plain fantastic. While we rarely use the term"Near Mint" to describe an antique, we do give it to this fine plate. c.1830-40.
