1815-1830 HIGH GRADE U.S. MOUNTED ARTILLERY OFFICERS SWORD
Offered from my personal collection is a beautiful high grade artillery officers sword dating from between 1815 and 1830. The grip appears to be made of ivory and not bone as there are no large hairline cracks usually found on bone grips. The grip does have a small crack(see pictures) but the hilt is firmly in place and tight to the blade. No wiggle or looseness to be found at all. The blade measures 34" with the curve and is etched with military motiffs and and an outstanding period eagle chased in gold wash. The blue and gold wash together exhibits a beautiful look along the curved blade. The blade also has the U.S. motiff and liberty cap and the American Eagle and shield. The blade is also etched with the word"Warrant" There is no maker mark that I can see on the sword unless it is under the langets. This sword is of a higher ... morequality than you normally see. You can sense the high quality of this piece as evidenced by the fine detail on the ferrule ring. It almost resembles jewelry instead of a sword part. The scabbard is a very hard to find repro with aged mounts. It makes for a wonderful display and the sword does fit snugly into the scabbard with only 1/4" of blade exposed where it meets the hilt. I had to search high and low for this scabbard and have not seen a loose one since. But they certainly make a nice display pair. The auction will have NO RESERVE so someone is taking this nice sword home. I am taking a chance doing this but I trust the ebay community will find the right fair price for this sword. If you have any questions. Please email me before bidding and I will NOT stop the auction for any offers. The auction will go until it ends. Everyone will have a fair chance in adding this piece to their collection. Bid with confidence as I have 100% feedback. $25 will be added for shipping. Allow 5-7 days for delivery. Please see the picture of my other swords listed on ebay including a high end dated 1861 Ames Foot Officer Sword. Thank you for bidding. On Mar-04-13 at 17:36:11 PST. Sel

Three charming little wooden boxes which I think are early Tunbridge Ware c. 1790- 1830 They have painted patterns on their lids. They are in good vintage condition with very slight surface wear. 1830 SDUK: Map/ Plan of Modern Rome
Fine. Original, steel-engraved plan of modern Rome, by the Society for the Diffusion of Useful Knowledge(SDUK) published as part of the Society's Atlas in 1844, in London, by Chapman and Hall. The SDUK began its map publishing project under the leadership of Captain Francis Beaufort R.N. in 1829, and published the maps in parts, haltingly, over the next 15 years, completing the series in 1844, finally permitting the publication of a whole atlas. Many of the maps were actually drawn by Beaufort, who at the time was the Hydrographer to the Royal Navy, and all were closely supervised by him. J. C. Walker worked closely with Beaufort in engraving the maps. The idea for the town plans, of which the SDUK published many dozens, was that of W. B. Clarke, an architect, who became an enthusiastic advocate for the plans, and who executed most of ... morethem himself, often on the basis of personal on-site observations. The plans are highly decorative, and often have accompanying vignettes, or sketches of the main buildings. Finely engraved, the plans set a standard of excellence for commercial map-makers in England for decades to come. Dimensions 16 1/4" x 13 1/2" overall. Small crease lower right corner, minor browning to edges, minor off-setting, otherwise excellent condition.

Mt. Etna. Sicily. Mineralogy. Judaica. Ltr fr Gemmellaro to Joshua Cohen, 1830.
Offered is an interesting letter- more interesting than we originally thought- from one mineralogist to another. It was written to Dr. Joshua I. Cohen(1801-1870) who graduated from the University of Maryland Medical School in 1823. He was born in Richmond. But lived in Baltimore and was one of its leading Jewish citizens for many years. He acquired a large library, and was one of the first Americans to collect early American currency. He was a long-time member of the Maryland Historical Society, and taught at the University of Maryland. This letter is addressed to him as Professor of Mineralogy, and is from Mario Gemmellaro(1773-1839) who was distinguished in his own right as a volcanologist and mineralogist. His chief interest was Mt. Etna, and from what we have read his name is still known, and honored, in that area of Sicily. In 1823 he ... moredescended into the mouth of the crater of the eruption of 1669, descending a remarkable 400 feet or so. And still managed to leave a plaque behind reading"Marius Gemmellarus primus ima haec in tartar venit. He wrote about his researches, and when not writing managed to build a guest house close to the crater of the 1669 eruption, a house that was used by tourists who invariably reflected upon Mario's welcoming and friendly nature. The letter has not been translated, but clearly deals with mineralogical matters. The letter measures 8 x 11 1/2 inches, is datelined August 1, 1832 near Mt. Etna in Catania in Sicily, has three pages of correspondence, and is in fine condition. Gemmellaro had excellent penmanship so the letter is easy to read, IF of course you meet one requirement! There are no postal markings. It apparently went to Cohen through the auspices of Horatio Sprague in Gibraltar. The Sprague family was closely connected with Gibraltar for many years. He was appointed consul there by Andrew Jackson, and when he died in 1848 his son was appointed consul by President Polk and, believe it or not, held the post until 1901. Sorry everyone but I have to state the following now due to recent problem children after selling more then 2.000 items on eBay with no problems. 1. If not happy with a item or other issue such as packing. Service, etc. before leaving negative or neutral feedback or a low seller star rating on shipping costs, shipping ... moretime, item as described, etc you agree to contact me before you leave such feedback so we can reach a civil solution, example- return for a refund, etc. 2. PayPal payment only. Payment is due within 5 days after the end of auction unless we have worked out prior arrangements. Methods of payments, etc. After this time period has expired I will begin the unpaid item process and relist the item. With Paypal now there is no excuse to wait for 10 days to pay for a $15.00 item. This covers all insurance and if over a certain amount signature confirmation. Please do not ask me for a cheaper method, if I offer free shipping, etc. The only time this is different is when you win multiple items at the same time from me then I combine shipping, see above. 6. Tall 14" Early Victorian 1830 Handled Vase Hand Painted Cobalt Ornate Gold Gild
Up for your consideration is this stunning Tall Early Victorian Vase. This vase was acquired by my great great grandmother of French origin around 1830. It has stayed in the same family for over 170 years. I was told by an appraiser that this piece is unmarked because it was not meant for export. I have a letter that documents who owned this vase and how it was acquired. This vase was acquired by saving coffee coupons as a promotion to sell coffee at a time when coffee was sold and delivered as many of us remember milk being delivered door to door. What is unclear. Because my great great grandmother lived in Cologne Germany, was if this was acquired in Germany or in the United States. The letter, dated July 19, 1987, verifying its origin will be included with this vase. It is an exquisite hand painted vase with beautiful pink roses. The cobalt ... moreblue and the generous use of gold gild, all typical of that early Victorian period. The handles give this piece an rich ornate appearance. It is in absolute perfect condition with no chips. Cracks or evidence of repair. The gold gilding shows very little wear, most probably because it has been displayed only and not handled for so many years. The evidence of age can be seen on the bottom of this piece in photo# 11. It measures 13 3/4" Tall. 8" wide from handle to handle with a top opening of 4" The base is 4 5/8" round. It weighs nearly 5 lbs. A superb piece to add to your early Victorian Collection. AAFA Ca. 1830 Reverse Painting on Glass (Theorem, Fraktur)
ITEM DESCRIPTION: This auction is for an original 1820s to 1840s reverse painting on glass featuring traditional motifs typically associated with theorem and fraktur artwork. Including stylized birds, fruits and flowers. The red-stained pine frame. Which retains its original backboard, suggests an American, rather than European, origin for this charming piece of early folk art. Measuring 13 ½ inches high by 11 ¼ inches wide. This small but vibrantly colored composition would add a touch of vitality to any wall in your home or office! CONDITION: This reverse painting on glass is generally in good condition. The paint is strong and bright. With only very minor flaking and no signs of touchup. Both the frame and its backboard appear to be original. As seen in the photos. The thin early glass is cracked in one corner. Someone has attempted ... moreto mend this break with tape as well as clear glue. But his efforts were unsuccessful. The backboard is currently unattached. Although a few of the original square nails remain in place. SHIPPING AND PAYMENT: The item will be carefully packed and shipped via USPS with tracking included. U.S. buyers only. Please. PayPal only. No returns.
