Antique Alphabet ABC Sampler- Circa 1830 A classic antique and fine example of early 19th century needlework. This alphabet sampler was likely a practice sampler for a young Victorian girl. It is simple and was worked in black thread cross stitch on plain linen. The alphabet was repeated several times. With different lettering styles. One alphabet does not have the letter J and the simple border suggests this may be a transitional or cross over sampler and was probably stitched sometime around 1830. The frame is a simple black and grey wood frame. Pictures taken under glass. The paper backing was taped to the frame; I don't know what the mat is. Measures about 17 1/4 inches x 18 1/2 inches; the opening is about 17 inches x 18 1/4 inches. Condition is excellent for this type of needlework although I have to mention there is some darkened ... morearea of the fabric near the top(too light to photograph well) Re-matting onto acid free paper should correct any further darkening. Offered for your bidding is an exceptionally high-quality suite of 8 x Georgian ruby glass water goblets or wine glasses(presumably English) Circa 1800- 1830. A wonderful addition to even the most discerning& well-appointed tables! These substantial goblets are of remarkable ruby red color, and beautifully made. An elegant neo-classical design, featuring the rare square foot. The vase shaped upper portions are hand-blown, as are the tapered stems, and thick molded square'lemon-squeezer' feet. The bottom of each stem has had the prunt polished, and most feature some small evidence of their hand-crafting in the form of miniscule implosions in the glass, etc. Condition: All 8 goblets have smooth upper drinking rims, free of any chips or signes of grinding. Intricately cast.833 silver tea set made in the Netherlands circa 1836. The exact manufacturer is unknown but there are clear hallmarks for somebody better versed in dating Dutch silver. There is a minor amount of wear but little tarnish- certainly in better condition than many items that are a century and a half old. The tea pot measures 9" tall. 8.5" deep, and 4.5" across and weighs 633 grams. The coffee pot measures 6" tall, 8.5" deep, and 4.5" across and weighs 377 grams. The sugar bowl measures 3.5" tall, 3.5" deep, and 5.5" across and weighs 168 grams. Has accompanying set of tongs that measure 3.5" long and weigh 9 grams. Antique Stoneware: *Rare* Incised Snuff Jar, Ovoid w/ Salt Glaze, NY/CT, ca.1830
An early 19thC. Ovoid Snuff Jar with exceptional Salt Glaze. Unmarked. But likely made in New York or Connecticut, ca.1830-40. The overall form, eased rim, and clay quality/color are quite consistent with these two areas during the time period. These Jars are quite rare. Features three incised lines around the body: just below the rim, at the shoulder, and about 2" above the slightly-flared base. The rim is slight uneven due to kiln-warp, and there is a small area of roughness on the top edge; otherwise excellent. No chips, cracks, hairlines or repairs. This beautiful and elegantly designed visiting card case is in remarkable condition for its age with no splits. Bruises or losses(even at the corners! There is no dulling from wear and no scratching. The faux shell is in excellent condition displaying variegated patterning in many shades on its front and back plates, continued on the side plates too. There is a small vacant silver cartouche inset in the top edge. The hinge and the lock are in perfect order and the case closes securely with a decisive‘snap’ This case measures 4” 10cms) by 3” 8cms) Before packing. It weighs 44gms. It bears a diamond outline in white metal or silver wire on both sides. The bone/ faux ivory edging on the opening edges of the case is intact and in superb condition and the case is lined in a deep orange coloured material which I think is velvet. But it is not easy ... moreto be sure of that as the lining is tucked well inside and is firmly anchored. The lining is in excellent condition but some of the fabric that lines the inside of the front opening edge of the lid has become slightly displaced but that would undoubtedly be due to the case being used and the cards ultimately wearing the lining in this particularly vulnerable area. Again, it is only very small, is easily correctable and can’t be seen at all from the outside, unless one looks inside with a good directional light. Collectors are aware that these cases were for practical daily use and were well used. This one is probably some 170 years old and wears its age gracefully. Postage Postal charges are based on the weight of the card case fully packed. I always. As a matter of policy, use a‘signed for’ and‘tracked’ postal option and insure for the full value. Thank you for looking at this listing! This is a 10" diameter Dark Blue Historical transferware plate in the"Fair Mount near Philadelphia" pattern by Joseph Stubbs. Who operated in Longport, Staffordshire between 1822 and 1834, making this piece at least 175 years old. The plate is in very good condition with only the two backside and chips that were repaired a long time ago. As seen in the close up photo. The repair is barely on the rim edge. Otherwise, there are no other chips, cracks, or hairlines. It has a nice ring to it when thumped. The plate has all of the other desirable characteristics including nice blue pearl glaze on the backside and a"STUBBS" logo stamped into the bottom. Paris and Its Environs displayed in a series of Picturesque Views. The drawings made under the direction of Mr Pugin and engraved under the superintendance of Mr. C. Heath. With topographical and historical descriptions. Two volumes bound into one, About 100 engravings in each, London, Robert Jennings 1830. Condition is fair, the main problem is the spine leather is almost all gone, so it does need a rebind, and some foxing and fading mainly around the page edges, but all the engravings are here, on almost every page. Slight mustiness. 11x8 inches, weighs 4 pounds, over 200 pages(engravings 2 to a page) I will insure the shipment.

Blanket chest or bench was beautifully hand made about 1830, and could serve as a charming coffee table. Fine hand cut dovetails secure the corners. Square nailheads are visible. The satiny finish is excellent with warm antique patina. We have applied several coats of finish to seal the interior. But when the lid is opened, there is a noticeable mothball scent, not noticeable when closed. This would be a very safe place to store woolens, protecting them from moths. The total weight of the whole set is 64.7 regular ounces(1830+ grams) The condition is very good as you can see on the photos, with light tarnish, which can be polished off. Two of them wobble a bit, due to uneven bases. Each the 12 goblets is fully marked with"P.C. STERLING" and a Chinese characters. P.C. may stand for"PO CHENG" or"PAO CHEUNG" a silversmith worked in Hong Kong and Shanghai, China. All the marks under the base of 12 goblets are shown in the photos. The set of goblet was custom made for Benjamin Soule Gantz(1890-1979) Who was a US navy captain used to live in Shanghai. Please see the last photo(not included ... morein this auction lot) This goblet set came from Captain Gantz's estate. A Gothic letter"G" The initial of his family name. Was engraved on the base. Each goblet has a bell-shaped bowl with gold-washed interior. With engraved abstract flower buds on both the front and back. The stems have engravement mimicking plant sprouts. 1.
