This is 19th century hand dovetailed domed top pine chest with old gray paint and traces of red. The name"Louis Becher" is painted on the side and top. The chest is a really nice medium size(39.5"W. 17"H, 18"D) it could be placed on a large table or on the floor. The exterior shows prolonged signs of use, but the interior is extremely clean. The hardware is all original but there is a missing clasp on the lock. It is very solid, the hinges work well, and it is otherwise completely functional. This auction is for a beautiful antique ABC Paper Litho Doll Trunk with the Alphabet and Children playing and it is older than the hills. It measures 14" long x 8 1/4" wide and it is 9" tall. It still has its two leather handles( one on each end) and it is in well worn condition but even so it has the most wonderful look to it. It has paper loss and paper wear- it is tarnished around the hardware and the metal trim. It has gouges, rips, dents, tears, scratches, dings, soil spots, lifting paper, cracks, splits, etc. in other words age appropriate wear and tear- and it still displays really well. It is a fantastic early collectible doll trunk and it is one of those antiques that just keeps on getting better and better with age. It is a great find and a beautiful piece of the past as well. Nice Refinished Flat Top Steamer Trunk Antique Chest w/Working Lock & Key & Tray
Beautiful Refinished Antique Flat Top Steamer Trunk with Working Lock. 2 Keys and Tray My husband and I have refinished over 100 trunks. Each one is a treasure of its own. The history of each trunk dates back as early as the 1 800's. Each has its own unique story. While owning a trunk of your own. You can enhance the tradition and legacy with your own family. This is a very nice refinished flat top steamer t runk. The particular d iminsions for this are 30 1/4" length. 18 1/2" width and 20 1/2" heig ht. We refinished this particular trunk by taking off the old canvas covering and all paper on the inside. Next we sanded the wood on the entire trunk. Inside and out. A fter t his. We applied 2 layers of tung oil to the trunk and tr ay. After lots of research on rest oration. We have found that it is better to finish old wood ... morewith tung oil as it helps preserve the wood from drying and cracking from the inside out. The trunk has some typical small stress marks and small stress cracks which are common in wood of this age. Next we painted all metal parts of the trunk with a black or gold leaf paint. We then attached 2 new Amish made brow n leather hand l es. We also put on a new lock with 2 working keys. Th is trunk also ha s the two original latches newly painted and working properly.Attached to the lid of this trunk is the original stay so it will remain opened when wanted. Included with this trunk is the original tray. Newly sanded and finished. Working the way down to the b ottom there are 4 original metal casters that are securely in p lace and working properly. Up for auction today we have a lovely refinished antique Ca. 1860's Jenny Lind Style Trunk that has been refinished inside and out. Originally leather covered. The old dried leather was removed and the wood sanded smooth and treated with Old English Stain and Tung Oil. No handles and the lock does not work. The inside is gorgeous and ready to hold all your treasures, secrets, old love letters, photo albums, etc. Lined with fresh cotton fabric, quilted top and bottom. A trunk this age is not perfect and I have taken photos of all angles of this beauty. The back right side is missing some of the metal banding, trunk is solid- measures 30 x 17 x 16 inches. Antique Oak Chest or Trunk c. 1800's Country Folk Primitives
Wonderful antique oak trunk or chest. Six-sided construction with molding around the bottom. Overhanging top has a raised panel inside a frame made using mortise and tenon joints. A small smooth notch has been carved into the front to allow the user to lower the lid without crushing their fingers. Sturdy wrap-around hinges hold the lid in place and interior corner-braces help keep the trunk solid. A more recent looking chain is also attached between the trunk body and lid. This piece has a ton of character and has definitely been put to use during its time. Probably dates from the mid to late 1800's Although it has some obvious wear. This item is a very nice small metal flattop steamer trunk. It measures 28" x 14.5"x 18" It has the new leather handles. Someone painted this trunk red. We did not change it. The front bottom section has four paint chips shown in picture 9. Even with the paint chips this is a very nice little trunk. It has been lined inside with quilt batting and black and red floral pattern material. This is a very nice little trunk, which would make any little girl a very nice Christmas present. This large trunk has a beautiful patina. It appears to be in excellent condition with the noted scuffing and scratching that comes with age and transport. The paint in the address is bold and bright. Hardware is all there and has a beautiful patina. Large key is original to the trunk. Hinges are sturdy. Has been used for the past 20 years as a blanket chest. This antique two-drawer chest has tons of character. The wood looks like oak and has been painted black on the sides and around the drawers on the front. Panelled sides and an overhanging molded top as well as molding at the base. Drawers have intricately designed metal pulls and there are circular wooden escutcheons surrounding the two keyholes. Sorry. No keys! The drawers have been assembled with strong doweled joints. Overall. This piece is in good condition, however there is obvious wear as you can see from the pictures. The front corners of the overhanging top have broken away and there is also damage to the framing of the drawer fronts on both sides. Paint and finishes look original, but have some significant wear to them. There are also some small holes in the top that look like they were made by nails. I have set the TV on it, placed it in the foyer, bedroom, etc. There are great details, inset drawers, English style bun feet, gorgeous solid brass hardware and a very slight white wash to the finish. I took a picture of the dovetailed drawers. There is a mar on the inside of a drawer that does not affect the use. Drawers open and close well. Sorry about the shadows on the photos! The piece has the numbers#16911-350 on the back and says Oak. But I believe that is the stain color. I believe it was built in the 1980's as a document reproduction for this collection. Round Top Trunk- c.1870s(Sometimes called a Camel Back) This one is in good condition considering the age and has been restored on the exterior. Including new leather handles(pics 3& 5) It is a combination of metal and wood with small caster wheels on the bottom. The interior(pics 6& 7) has the original lining on the lid. But it does not have any lining on the bottom half of the trunk. Note also that the lift-out tray is missing and there are two screws visible on the left hand side(interior) where the hinge attaches to the trunk body(pic 6) The hinge repair is also evident in pic 4, which shows where a small repair hinge has been added. It looks great in almost any decor and is very good for storing Christmas decorations. This is an unusual walnut veneered'sewing or games' box which is permanently fixed to four cabriole legs with pad feet. It has previously been used as a sewing box and the interior is lined with blue silk. The top. Front and back of the box are quarter veneered. There is slight damage to the veneer on one corner of the lid(see photo) the rest of the piece is generally in good condition. General dimensions are 745mm high, 450mm wide and 352mm deep. The box dimensions are 238mm high, 385mm wide and 297mm deep. Enlarge the pictures to see the detail. The standard size dining chair is to give an idea of scale only. Nice Refinished Jenny Lind Steamer Trunk Antique Chest With Key and Tray
Nice Refinished Jenny Lind Style Steamer Trunk With Working Lock and Key and Interior Tray Here is a Jenny Lind refinished trunk from around the 1860's or so. We found this one already finished by someone else and figured it looked pretty decent. So we figured that we didn't have to refinish it. It is made up of some type of hard wood, possibly poplar and it looks like the wood has been finished with a couple of coats of clearcoat. This one has the traditional brass buttons or rosettes on the thin metal banding. The brass buttons have been polished, probably many years ago, although they are starting to tarnish down where they are not as shiny. Here are the measurements: from left to right across the front is 25 1/2 inches. From floor to top is 1 3 1/2 inches. And from front edge to back edge is 14 1/2 inches. Look at the side view ... morepicture and you will see this trunk has the Jenny Lind hourglass shape where the top angles in at the base and the base flares out a little bit, that slice of bread shape. This one comes with the original lock with the original brass lock plate. We have matched up a key that does work with this lock. These early locks lock every time the lid is closed, so the key is very important to be able to unlock the trunk each time the lid is closed. The side handles are cast iron metal underhand pulls. I don't know if they are old or reproduction, but they do have a figure of a deer embossed in the metal. They were on it when we received it and seemed to be ok for handles, so we have left them in place. Going to the interior, it is made up of rough cut boards. We have given the interior four coats of polyurethane to make it not so dry looking. There is a typical stress crack running across the bottom on the inside. There is also a stress crack running across the top which you can see in the top view picture on the exterior of the trunk and the picture where we show the close up of the brass buttons or rosettes. Important vintage leather steamer trunk belonged to Henry McNeal Turner
I bought this leather trunk in February of 2004 at an auction in Charleston SC that had many items that once belonged to Henry McNeal Turner. 12th Bishop of the African Methodist Church. See below for detailed biography. Considering the age, it is in excellent condition. Some of the leather could use some conditioning and the blue string used to make the star on the inside cover is very brittle. There are many compartments in this trunk and all of the hinges and locking mechanisms are there as far as I can tell. The color of the leather on the inside is beautiful and the details worked into this trunk are very very nice. I never cleaned or conditioned this trunk so as to leave it as it came into my possesion. The bottom has 4 metal wheels attached to two wooden skis. I have several more pictures if you would like them and also if you need ... morea picture of a specific part, just ask) The dimensions are 30"x17"x20" Please ask for a shipping quote as I feel that if you do not live close enough to pick this up in person, it needs to be crated before being shipped. Entirely hand made with exquisite delicate hand cut dovetails at the corners. Every wide plank has hand planing marks. The glowing old finish is beautiful with warm patina. Drawers are also hand dovetailed with chamfered bottoms. Brass pulls are over a century old but not original. There are stains. Shrinkage separations and wear for antique character. The drawer construction is mortise and tendon, and this is as near perfect as any 1850's piece you can hope to find. It measures 42" wide, 18 1/2" deep on each corner and 20" deep at the center. It stands 47 1/4" tall. The top has sandwich cut corners, and original wood knobs. The graceful bowfront design will be a great look in any setting. Beautifully restored antique dome-top steamer trunk. Metal sides and top are embossed with an intricate floral design and braced with oak slats. Contrasting black metal covers the corners and edges and is decorated with floral braces at the corners. Metal lock and fasteners and front. Two leather side handles have their original wear and really emphasize the age and history of this piece. The inside of the lid has a charming decoupage design. This piece is both decorative and practical for storage. It most likely dates from the late 1800's This piece has been restored and is in very good condition. There is. developed in the mid 1800's was the Saratoga Trunk. The name started based on large trunks used by the wealthier people visiting the spa resort and racetrack at Saratoga Springs. New York. The Saratoga Trunk evolved into a very large, round top style with fancy trim, covered in either leather, canvas, or metal. Early trunk catalogs and ads describe Saratoga trunks as a"large round top of the highest class" Round top and barrel top trunks were made in a wide range of sizes and coverings. Piece is 31 1/4 inches tall. 39 inches wide and 18 1/4 inches deep. Chest of drawers is in very good condition. Lock in top drawer is missing. Pulls can be turned. But are firmly attached. Fabulous Antique Grain Painted Cottage Chest With Flowers ca 1800's- Local P-up
Exquisite grain painted cottage chest with the best colors you will ever find! The colors work well with both dark oak and pine since they are very neutral in tone. Grain painting became popular in the mid 1800's when immigrants moved from the northern areas if the US to the west. The west didn't provide the fine wood sources if the north(maple. Oak, cherry etc) So they made the chests and furniture of pine- and often feather painted the surface to appear like the rich nice woods available in the north! The detailing on the drawers is wonderful. I posted a photo of the drawer edge because the chest drawers are put together with dowels. I also posted a photo of the top surface of the chest- it is pretty rough- but I bought it this way years ago! ANTIQUE DOLL TRUNK LEATHER TIN EMBOSSED MOLDING TRIM SALESMAN SAMPLE STEAMER
Up for this no reserve listing is an antique doll truck. Or ladies accessory. I'd guess this piece dating from mid to late 1800s. It measures 12" height, 14" wide, and 9"deep. It's covering is leather with a fish scale diamond pattern, and accented with tin or copper embossing on the front and lid. There is also a metal handle on each side and a lockable clasp(lock not included) on the front. All the hardware, including the hinges, is in excellent shape with great patina. The tin accents are peeling off in the corners. There are nicks to the corners and edges, and done wood damage around the clasp(see photos) The lining is in excellent shape! No water damage or stains that I could see. This is a solid piece and a beautiful collector item! Huge 1890 Louis Vuitton steamer trunk 43"x27"x24" serial number #15792
This is a beautiful Louis Vuitton trunk. Circa 1890. It has the lowest serial number I have seen on the label 15792. Dimensions 43" long, 27.5" high, 24" deep. The exterior of the trunk has been stained, but you can see the original striping of the fabric used on Louis Vuitton trunks at that time. The inside is the original pink stripe ticking. It does have some stains and shows some wear on the interior, but it is in amazing condition for a trunk that is over 120 years old. The locks have since been changed from the original factory locks. This trunk is very sturdy. These steamer trunks were definitely built to last. I will be happy to post additional pictures. No shipping to Alaska, Hawaii, or international.

Red Flat Top Steamer Trunk Great Trunk! Large Size. Approx 35 in long by approx 20in and about 24in tall Has in side tray All original hardware. Except for the handles, trunk actually had the handles when I got it, but they were dry rotted, and became even more damaged in the process of conserving. so I did replace them, now they are great Also replaced was the bottom of the tray. The original bottom was coming loose from tray, and was cracked, so to make this trunk as fully functional as possible I thought it best to do it right! The inside of the trunk has been stripped clear of the inside paper. This is great b/c it gets rid of all old smells many old trunks hold it also makes the trunk free of many allergens the trunk has been left natural. This is so you may either leave it as is, or do it the way that suits you best. Trunk would be ... moregreat as storage. At the end of a bed, as a toy chest, a coffee table, or come up with a fabulous original idea all your own: excellent condition. And will make a great gift for christmas!
