We believe the insert in the top is probably not original- if it is. It has been modified with the addition of adhesive paper. There is also a moldy smell inside the trunk. This item is a very nice small metal flattop steamer trunk. It measures 28" x 14.5"x 18" It has the new leather handles. Someone painted this trunk red. We did not change it. The front bottom section has four paint chips shown in picture 9. Even with the paint chips this is a very nice little trunk. It has been lined inside with quilt batting and black and red floral pattern material. This is a very nice little trunk, which would make any little girl a very nice Christmas present. He was a Lt Colonel from June 1958- June 1960. During the Vietnam War. He was considered a USMC Senior Marine Advisor. He was also a Colonel in the 1965 9th Marines, Third Marine Division who were one of the first American combat troops to protect the Da Nang Airport in Vietnam, from May 6- December 31. Wilkinson was there from July 1- December 31. This information I found online from what i could understand so there could be some slight errors in the dates, etc. I was able to find a picture of him. He is second from the right in the last photo. There may be more info regarding him online. But that is what I found. It would be awesome for you to own a trunk ... morethat belonged to a Colonel during the Vietnam War. Vintage Embossed Metal Covered Wood Box/Trunk, Horses Pulling Plow Handmade
This large handmade box/trunk is such a great find! It is a solid wood box completely covered in embossed brass colored metal/tin. The design. Which is on the top and front, is a scene of a farmer and his Clydesdale work horses pulling a plow through the field. The sides are an embossed filigree. The metal sheet was cut, embossed and applied to the wood with small nails. There are 2 brass hinges attaching the lid and a safety chain to keep the lid from falling back. This piece measures 20" long. 15" high and 14" wide. It sits on 4 rubber feet which may have been added later. There are some issues with discoloration on the front just above the horses and on one side. Something must have dripped on it and changed the color(see photos) The hinges have rust on them. Normal wear and tear from many years of use. I believe this piece ... moreis quite old and very unique. It was purchase in an antique shop in Tampa so I don't know who may have made it. But it is fabulous! This trunk will be insured and shipped UPS. Trunk alone weighs 15lbs.

Up for Auction is an ANTIQUE Vintage Steamer Black Metal Lined Wood TRUNK. It has Nice Metal corners and has a thin lining of metal over wood. Inside it is lined also. There is an insert that has makes a shelf. The bottom of the insert has detatched from the sides. See pictures. The wood is lined with blue and white paper. It has a lock by the Eagle Lock Company which was in business in the late 1800's and early 1900's. There is no key and the middle of the handle is missing. The trunk has the intials PTM on it. The metal is scatched. Warped and dinged from use and it is very old. The lining inside also has marks and is tearing from age. It also has rivots on the sides. Old metal trunk bought at Estate sale. great primitive chippy green,box is metal with some type of canvas covering, wood handle is not original to box, inside of box is reddish brown, with tag indicating used by city of jacksonville,not sure what this was used for, there is an emblem imprint on top of box but i cant make it out,dimensions are,13" long 8 1/2" wide and app 6" deep, would be pretty on a porch with geranium's in it, This is a nice heavy box, it weights almost 5lbs.

There is one snap closer Broke on right side. The Box that sits on top top is in good shape except has cracks in the paper liner and one stain. Very cool small metal trunk has plastic lined cylindrical interior. I am not sure what this was used for. But it could be used for storage, as a trash bin or since it is lined it could be used as a unique ice bucket. This is a very sturdy metal trunk. Has latch for locking. But no lock. Sides have two brass ring handles. Bottom has four metal feet to elevate it off of the floor or table. Trunk measures 9 x 9 x 7 inches. Inside compartment has a 6 1/2 inch diameter.
