Up for consideration is a nice size primative Civil War Stagecoach antique trunk. It has been cleaned well inside and out. The wood has been lightly sanded then sealed with a satin finish. It os all original exccept for the handles were replaced with new leather ones. It does have some minor dings and stress cracks. But this only adds to the characture of this 150 year old trunk. nice antique 1860's stagecoach trunk brass buttons leather tray
Selling this stagecoach trunk made around the 1860's. The trunk is all original and the leather is in very nice condition. The leather is a little dirty and could use a conditioning. There is a tray incuded. The holding comparment in the interior will need to be reattached as the leather hinges are no longer attached. The trunks handels are also in great shape. It appears that the metal bands are also brass plated. Though a couple of them have been painted green. Its rare that a trunk is in as nice condion as this one. Selling this very interesting flat top stagecoach trunk with brass button nails. There are also old brass tacks that spell out the letters C.E.C. EXAMPLE OF STAGECOACH/JENNY LIND With Measurements: 29"w x 13.5"h x 16 1/4"d Stagecoach Trunks Including The Jenny Lind's 1840-1875 This era of trunks saw the replacement of the leather trim with metal banding and the hide coverings replaced by things such as oil cloth. A tanned and often highly tooled or inked leather. And toward the later part of the era, paper on occasion. During this time, the size of the buttons. Often brass covered, became larger although not all trunks had them. Generally, trunks of this type were still on the smaller size to carry a few belongings for an individual person as space was limited during travel. The Jenny Lind trunk was born in this time in the early 1850's. It has a distinctive shape like no other trunk being ... moresimilar to an old keyhole or bread loaf shape(there are two variations) when viewed from the side. The style became popular in America when the famous singer Jenny Lind toured the country under contract by P.T. Barnum. Jenny Lind brought her trunk over from Europe(do not know who made the first one) and everyone here wanted one. It is a very attractive trunk with metal banding that is on occasion brass wrapped and the banding is held in place by large brass buttons. The Jenny Lind's are really a unique style of their own but I have listed then under the stagecoach trunks as that is really what they were and their general size being consistent with other trunks of this era. This trunk is in good condition. Obviously it will show wear marks from age. Some wear and cracks to wood. Forged handles. Rivets and initials"M.O. on top. Brown wood with black bands. Up for sale is this antique victorian dome top steamer trunk made by M. M. Secor- The Great Northwestern Trunk and Traveling Bag Manufactory. It measures 31" long by 19" wide and 23" tall(no key) The original canvas that wrapped this trunk has been removed and the wood was hand sanded then sealed with two coats of spar urethane(light sand in between coats) The exterior has some character flaws from age. Missing handles and some missing trim but overall it is in good condition- very functional and solid. The interior of this trunk has been left in all original condition to keep some of it's history. Gold Rush/Civil War Era 5 Band Stagecoach Antique Trunk
This is a very nice 5 band Gold rush era to Civil War era travel trunk. 1850s to 1860s) The Iron bands are secured with over 75 very large Brass head nails. The original leather covering was missing when I started working on this. But the wood beneath is beautiful. Not only beautiful, but the sides, top, and bottom are all one piece each. I re-made the original interior(see before picture) and re-lined the interior with it. This was done as well with the handles, and lid lift as well. The interior has a nice tray and the trunk moves easily on its original Iron casters. The original lock works well and a key is included. This trunk measures 26"long, 17"wide, and 16" high. This is a restored ca.1855 embossed black leather-covered Jenny Lind stagecoach trunk. It has brass clad steel straps and the original hand-made brass buttons. It has a fancy brass lock plate and a working Key. The handles and straps have been replaced. There is a small area of leather missing on the right side of the lock plate. It is 26"x 17"x 16" high and weighs 30 lbs. The interior has the original bonnet box compartment. Fold-down door with a money pouch and a lift-out tray with small leather pull handles. It measures 28 inches long x 16 inches deep x 18 inches high. It has some light surface rust on some of the metal pieces. But in my opinion, that adds to the character and charm of this wonderful piece. The handles on both ends are in very nice condition and are made of wood! They are original to the trunk and an added bonus! The paper inside is original and in good condition for its age. The four metal wheels on the bottom are functional and in good condition. You would have to look hard to find a better restored origianl Genny Lind stagecoach trunk. This mid 1800s trunk has had a great restoration including new leather straps and buckles on the outside. Lovely quilted interior. And beatiful restoration of the tooled leather covering. And it does not smell! On the interior it still sports the wood restraining flap that would allow you to fill that side of the trunk and then close it without everything falling out. See the last 2 photos Petite size approximately 20" long. 13.5" wide and 9" deep. A kind and knowledgeable ebayer just added this info. the actual name for one of these is a valise. Here is a real antique. Stagecoach, train luggage trunk. It is leather over wood and it's embellished with brass tacks and a monogram. Has the bottom part of the original lock. Has both handles. The inside is covered with blue and white striped ticking or cloth. That's in very good shape. It has a drop open door in the lid that was used to put either dirty clothes or unmentionables(as they called underwear in those days) Then the top was padded and you could sit on the trunk as a seat as you were waiting for the train or stagecoach. Antique ca.1875 Ladies Restored Stagecoach Trunk
This is an antique ca.1875 ladies refinished pine hat trunk. It is 14"x 13"x 16.75"tall and weighs 17 lbs. It has steel banding with brass buttons. The solid brass hasp and lock plate are original. The key has been lost. The three leather handles and leather dust strap have been replaced per the original. The interior has a lift-out tray and a fold-down bonnet box with a money pouch. It has been repapered with a lovely floral victorian print and lithograph. Please look carefully at the photos. No returns. Absolutely amazing dome Steamer Trunk. Very nice black and wood look. In outstanding condition for its age. Has the top compartment and the original label that refers to the James Dooley company that made high end trunks and luggage in downtown New York City from the Mid to Late 1800s. Additionally it is adorned with many stickers and customs tags from the various places it traveled. Please see all pictures for detail. This trunk has had some work to it and may need a little fixing up if desired by new owner. It seems to have a lacquer like finish. I think it looks great the way it is with the exception of maybe new handles. Up for bid is a rare original SMALLER antique trunk/chest. It has leather over wood with metal strapping and sitting on four metal roller/wheels. This chest has the original lock.but…no key. It also has the original paper lining with a Victorian style picture on the interior lid. There is also one area where it looks like someone wrote their initials in pencil. The exterior leather is intricately decorated with artwork depicting geometrical designs. The leather is fastened with numerous studs or tacks. Measurements are 25” x 14” x 13” The Bad: This trunk/chest is completely original so shows evidence of its age. Many“bumps and bruises” through the years as you can see in the many pictures I took. Offered here this outstanding brass studded leather dome top trunk. Trunk is very sturdy and has stood the test of time. A true survivor. Trunk measures 20 1/4" across 13 1/2' front to back and is 8 1/4" tall to top of dome. As you can see there is some wear and chipping to leather, other than that no damage. Hinges are intact and firm no loosenes at all. All the brass studs are there and it has it's original cloth lining which is quite beautiful in itself and doesn't have any tears. Weighs 15 pounds unpacked. I believe this is circa 1850 to 1860 and I can picture this trunk on top of stagecoach. I wish it could talk and tell me where its been. This is an antique R.H.John Galveston Trunk Factory stagecoach trunk from between 1880's- to no later than 1910. I could not find anything like it for comparison to get a better date. The trunk is made of metal. Wood and canvas coverings both inside and out. It has a red wash on it, so it was done right and appears to be original. It looks really good, but does have some dents along the side/edge fixtures, a small dent in bottom metal base, some tearing of the inside canvas, mostly along sides, is missing an inside wooden brace that would have possibly held a top box, has some staining spots on inside lid, has an outside tear of the canvas along a side edge about 3-4 inches long(pictured) the outer leather straps are worn, but still strong enough to lift it, there is an inner strap that is broken and 2 long cracks of the inner wood bottom ... morethat does not show through to metal bottom. There are wood slats along the top, bottom, and sides. Please ask for more pictures if you need to see more. This is heavy for it's size-over 37 pounds. It is 41 1/2 inches long, 20 3/4 inches wide and 13 inches deep.

Rare Antique Gold Rush Stagecoach Trunk, 1860's, tray, key, Restored and Lined
A beautiful and rare stagecoach or"gold rush" style American trunk made from about the mid 1860's to 1870. It measures 31 1/2 inches wide. 20 inches tall, 18 inches deep. Made of thick pine with metal banding and hardwood slats, attached with dozens of large brass buttons! A fabulous and impressive looking trunk which is very hard to find with six bands and in such great condition. The original lock is complete with the fancy brass cover and working key. The handles are the original style, sliding arrow design, attached with the original holders and brass buttons. A new all wood tray was made which makes the trunk much more useful inside. It was thoroughly cleaned out and relined with nice quality fabric in blue and off-white colors. I preserved the original large lithographed picture in the lid, which shows a lady on horseback ... moreand her dog! The bottom is in great condition and has the original metal rollers. A nice high rounded top which allows for more storage inside and gives it a great look. A real piece of American history and very useful in the home. The Liebrich lock is dated 1854 and the castors are dated 1855. this trunk has a lot of character and is beautiful and functional the way it is. inside has compartment below the lid that opens for storage. nicely designed. Rustic and worn. Has wear from age as shown in the pictures. Missing handles and there is no key. There are a couple areas that have damage. The hand forged iron handles and the hand forged nails I believe this trunk dates to 1850-1860. Also please notice the quality. Unusual, hand cut. Dove tailed corners. This trunk is made from six solid pine boards. All sides, top, and bottom are made of a single wide pine board. Antique ca.1830 Dome Top Stagecoach Ladies Hide Trunk
This is a ca.1830 Ladies dome top refinished pine trunk. It is 23.75"x 11.75"x 9.5"high and weighs 10 lbs. It was originaly covered in deer hide which was removed years ago. The hand forged lock. With a Workinig Key and the handles are original to this trunk. It has leather banding with brass tacks. There is a brass tack oval on top and a swag on the front. 20" STAGECOACH TRUNK· 1877· antique sole leather w/ torn Wells Fargo Label find more unique items at" buy it now or best offer" prices in DESCRIPTION: This small antique stagecoach trunk is made of wood covered in leather. It measures 20" wide. 12" deep and 11" high with wood skids on the bottom. The leather is hand decorated with simple graphics, and the top is stamped"Sole Leather- Steel Springs. It has leather straps with buckles and the center latch is marked"Pat'd. April, 1877. Attached to one of the metal loops that hold the heavy leather handle is a narrow strap with a buckle and metal tag to hold the owner's name and address. The trunk has a drab cloth lining contrasted by a brilliant blue cardboard door with brightly colored trim that opens to reveal a separate storage compartment ... morein the lid. When you open the compartment you can see two metal strap springs(the same brilliant blue color) which keep the top from collapsing under the weight of other trunks that may be piled on top of it in transit. On the bottom of the trunk is the remnant of a shipping label that reads, Wel. and the rest is torn off. It most likely said"Wells Fargo. I have gently taped a piece of a polyester film over the label to keep it from disintegrating further. CONDITION: The good news is. This trunk has the potential for a beautiful new life with the proper restoration, but that's not something I have the necessary credentials to do. The bad news is, it has many cosmetic issues, which I will separate into categories. Here's the 411. LEATHER- Dry in some places. But no significant loss, just a tiny piece at one corner. Many dark stains, likely caused by exposure to the elements, i.e. extreme heat, cold, rain and mud, not to mention gun oil and horse sweat and all the dirty hands it would have passed through on its way! For sale today is a very nicely restored stagecoach style humpback trunk. I found one patent date of 1877 on the mechanical latches which makes this neat old trunk as much as 136 years old- a true antique. This trunk was in good solid condition when the restoration started and the wood bottom is good. Has had multiple coats of clear applies, has three original slats and the four original metal wheels and they roll fine. The two original hinges are tight, polished, work well and the lid closes well. There is a new leather lid lifter on the trunk. The lid stay is original. There are 20 pieces of polished original hardware on the trunk. The center lock is original, has been polished and there is no key. The mechanical latches have been polished, are tight, fancy, HD and work well. The original tray is present and the interior has been removed. ... moreThe metal/tin is smooth and in good condition. Thirty four polished nail covers adorn the trunk. Th ere are five solid oak slats on the trunk. Two new leather handles were installed with the original hardware. The top of the trunk has a little door the was used to put clothing inside and to make a cushion to sit on while waiting for the stagecoach to come. It's in good condition considering it's age. RARE FORM Antique BARREL STAVE Domed CHILD’S TRUNK with TRAY - Stagecoach Days

It has some issues but nothing that can’t be restored. The best part is. Other than some leather, it’s all there. It is 18” by 12” by 14” I have been told something about it that sounds strange at first. And that is that it’s the“largest true child’s trunk. I know it sounds like the world’s smallest giant, but research indicates this to be true. I don’t have the key. But that isn’t an issue. Notice that on either side, where you would expect latches, this trunk originally had two short straps with buckles. That in itself is rare. My heart skipped a beat when I first opened ... moreit. I was fully expecting the tray to be missing. They normally are. But this one remains. It is canvas covered. The only significant loss of canvas is seen above near the bottom. Then. Near one handle someone attempted to replace, a little of the canvas is torn. The trunk will need new handles, but the buttons are present. So are the buttons on the bottom, and that was another good surprise. Here again. The leather straps have deteriorated and should be replaced. Also, the hinged top for the right compartment has come loose. Both tray supports are still inside. But one have come loose. My arrows point to the area with some torn canvas. It is where someone who shouldn’t have. Attempted to replace the handles. Once it is restored. It will be a genuine treasure. No disappointments. GOOD LUCK My preferred method of payment is PayPal. This has old metal straps and I believe there are SOME square nails as shown in the 5th photo. Nice patina that has been cleaned up with some lemon oil to show the wood grains. Handles are wood! The latch does not work so when you open it you will need to push lightly where the lock plate is and it will open just fine. You can see where there are some new screws to secure the lock when it could not be opened without a key. There are a few others areas that a new screw or two have been added where they are missing to secure the straps or hinges. There is a split in the top but it is solid and only adds to the vintage look of this old piece. It is a nicely made. Solid little trunk. Antique Haskell Bros Leather Stagecoach-Auto Travel Trunk/Coffee Table Chest&Key
This is a rare find as you don't find sole tooled leather trunks made by the Haskell Brothers Trunk Makers of Chicago very often. The original wood strips and metal"feet" are in good working order. The lock was made by Excelcior Lock and has a patent date of 1864. There is a key which"almost" turns the lock and guessing some lubrication may fix it? I have done nothing to the leather except wipe the dust off. Straps are missing and one handle and strap retainer is inside the trunk. One end is stenceled'Rochester. Minn' Neat trunk which could be used to store bedding at the foot of your bed or even a coffee table(no inside odor) If refurbished it would make a nice travel chest on the back of your vintage automobile. Quite large at approximately 30 1/2" by 17 1/2" by 18 1/2" tall and it weighs approx ... more40 pounds. P lease look closely at the pictures. Antique c1860 Jenny Lind StageCoach Steamer Trunk Domed Top
This is a beautiful antique Jenny Lind Civil War Era Pine Stagecoach Steamer Trunk dating to around 1860. The trunk has a domed top with front to back metal banding and brass studs and hardwood horizontal slats. The trunk has its original steel lock. The trunk has provenance with the name in Braille on the bottom left of the lid. It is J. Bagnall& Sons. The Trunk was made in England from 1850- 1860. The back hinges and side leather straps are not original but do have some age. PLEASE NOTE: the brass cap on the left side of the lid is missing in the photo but I do have it and will be returned to the trunk. The trunk maintains its original pine planks on the bottom. She had trunks which were made in London which were soon copied by trunk makers all over America, which we now refer to as Jenny Lind trunks. They were usually leather covered, with several iron or Brass bands around the trunk, fastened with large brass studs, and they curved in at the center.They are often called Bread loaf trunks. These trunks were often very decorative with brass locks, fancy tooled leather and elaborate interiors with paper lining and trimmings. Models made with brass banding are referred to as"brass bound" Jenny Linds. They were so popular that the style continued until the 1870s in many sizes and varieties, including doll ... moretrunks. Some also refer to these trunks as"stagecoach" trunks as they were also used for stagecoach travel. This is very unusual trunk looks like it was made in the 1800s. It was discovered in the attic of an 1836. NY farmhouse. We have no patents or dates to verify its actual age; however. Given the materials, the condition, and the style we are quite certain of this statement. It could be older. If you are an expert on trunks, and recognize this particular style, please let us know. He will be happy to incorporate any additional information in our listing. The stagecoach trunk has brass decorations on metal straps. It has some leather straps still remaining. One leather side handle is still present. We believe the original leather hinges were replaced at some time with the metal ones you see. Based on our examination of the area and discoloration around the hinges. One of the four is only half there. We do not have the key for the lock.
