Vintage LANE Cedar lined Blanket Hope Chest with Shelf - pick-up in PA
Item is available for Pick-Up only(eastern PA) NO SHIPPING AVAILABLE. You are looking at one(1) Cedar-Lined Hope Chest. Manufactured by Lane. Imprinted inside the lid: the company logo: Lane. Altavista, VA· list of patent numbers(as seen in the picture) Imprinted on the bottom: style# 3043· serial# 451240. This chest measures 48 inches wide by 18 inches deep by 17 inches high. When opened. You are greeted with the fresh scent of natural cedar as a shelf rises up and away for easy access to the chest below. Based on the serial number. The manufacture date was April 21, 1954. I received the chest in the early-to-mid 70s and had it professionally refinished with a walnut stain in 1979. Some of the grain is slightly raised on the front(as seen in the picture) Several pictures were taken under different lighting conditions. There are ... morea few very minor scratches. Beautiful Rare 1927 Antique Lane Cedar Hope Blanket Chest Style# 48910 This Lane Hope Chest was made on May. 9th 1927 In 1912 John Edward Lane bought a small packing-box plant in Altavista. Virginia at a bankruptcy auction for $500. Placed in charge of the small, corrugated iron building, his son Edward Hudson Lane decided to convert the facility in order to make cedar chests. The Lane family was unsure of what success they would have selling chests, so they originally named the company The Standard Red Cedar Chest Co. The firm manufactured and sold chests used to store linens and other items for setting up housekeeping, as well as keepsakes. Early production of about ten chests a day was sold through independent salesmen working on commission. In its early days. The business was run on a shoestring budget. Nearby buildings were rented as ... moredemand grew, with finished parts transferred from one building to another by means of a mule-drawn carriage. Ed Lane later recalled he was"one jump ahead of the sheriff most of the time. When a banker told him the company was insolvent, Lane asked him what that meant. 1963 Lane Blanket Hope Storage Trunk Chest Danish Modern Cedar Mid Century
Danish modern style cedar chest by Lane in excellent condition. This mid century modern style blanket chest is completely cedar lined. Stands on sturdy walnut peg legs with brass caps, has a bottom pullout drawer and is totally original, excellent with just a couple small nicks. Outside measurements are 18 by 40 and stands 20 high. The top and outside finishes are walnut solids and veneers. Note the date stamp: for those who do not know. All vintage Lane products denote there date or manufacture with the serial number. backwards, in this case Aug 21, 1963. It stands on Danish style peg legs. For auction is a vintage miniature salesman's sample cedar chest made by Lane Cedar Chests in Altavista. Va. and Presented by John Tucker Furniture, Inc. These miniature"hope chests" were typically given away by furniture stores to girls nearing graduation from high school. This chest is made of cedar wood and measures approximately 9 inches long, 4 1/4 inches wide and 4 inches high. The Lane name and"Presented by John Tucker Furniture, Inc. are impressed into the underside of the lid. Most of the Lane label is still attached to the bottom of the chest. It has 4 felt cushions on the bottom. The hinges are in good condition and work well. It has a lock but I do not have the key. It has some ink stains in the bottom, a tiny dot of white paint on the front and rubs and nicks from use through the years.
