ANTIQUE VTG FLAT TOP STEAMER TRUNK - VICTORIAN PIRATE CHEST RESTORED REFINISHED
Up for sale is this beautiful refinished antique flat top steamer trunk/victorian pirate chest with tray. It measures 28 1/2" long by 18" wide and 11 1/2" tall. The original canvas that wrapped this trunk has been removed and the wood was sanded. Stained then sealed with of spar urethane. The interior has been redone with a newer fabric liner at some point in this trunk's history- it has some wear and blemishes but overall it is in very good condition. This trunk is a great decor piece that is functional for storage, hope chest, files, etc. Ask if you have any questions and thank you for looking.

Large Flat Top Steamer Trunk Nice. Sturdy well made, beautifully restored Steamer Trunk. Newly refinished in a unique antiqued brown. Oak slats have been sanded and stained in a rich red mahogany and coated with polyurethane. My goal with this one is to make it look untouched, but still have a clean usable antique. The interior is newly finished as well. Stripped, sealed and covered in a deep brown felt, no old trunk smell! The handles are original. And still look very nice. It doesn't appear to have ever had wheels on the bottom. Bottom is also refinished. Note: the top has 2 cracks. See pictures, it does not seem to affect the structural integrity, and could be reinforced from the inside if desired. It would make a great coffee table or end table! Fully refinished and is covered with sheet metal and curved oak slats. It comes with double working locks and key. The exterior was sanded. Primed, painted and sealed as pictured. The interior was stripped of its paper then sanded. Stained and sealed. The trunk has its original interior tray. This trunk measures 32" wide X 18" deep X 22" high. Great Rustic Antique Steamer Trunk Possibly a Military Trunk. The reason I think it may be is the trunk's original color was a army green color. The only remnants of the green paint are on the edges when the lid id opened, but it the green enamel is there The trunk is medium sized. When I got it, it was actually locked. I was able to get it unlocked and inside where some papers dated 1942, so I would say it is a least pre-1940's from the design. Hardware, and inside paper I would say it is likely dated to 1880-1910. The lock takes a skeleton key Hinges work great. I assume with the right key the lock would as well The paper from the inside has all been removed so no lingering smells remain. Also removes allergens, etc. Left natural wood. This way you can leave as is, or finish to best suit your needs! Antique Steamer Trunk This trunk has sat at the foot of my bed for over 40 years serving as storage for all my blankets. Linens, etc. and also a place to sit when getting dressed. Because it has a flat top it would also make a great coffee/end table. Antique steamer trunk is in original antique condition. Made of wood strapping. Canvas and metal with fancy latches and decorative corner ends. Beautiful original ornate functioning metal hardware and working lock and key. All the metal hardware is in tack except for 2 missing metal buttons. One in back and one in front. The two leather handles/straps are missing on each side. The interior shows some darking and wear. From age, but is authentic. There are also 4 metal wheels underneath. Measures approx. 36 1/2" long x 22 1/2" deep x 25 1/2" high. The trunk looks wonderful the way ... moreit is however. This trunk is in fairly good overall condition. I am not positive as to when this was made but the hardware is classic late 1800s hardware that i commonly see on a trunk like this. The insert here is really what stood out to me it is in very good condition. In fact probably the best trunk insert I have ever seen that was in original condition and not restored. The left side of the trunk on the exterior near the top rim there is a dent with a small hole where something hit the trunk it looks like. The interior has a few spots where the paper is starting to come off or are chipped and the ledges that the insert sets on is starting to separate from the ... moresides but nothing major and not loose. The trunk has I believe it's original owners name shown under the top and on the top of insert as shown in photos. This would make a great coffee table. Antique ca.1890 Flat top Metal Covered Steamer Trunk
This is a ca.1890 antique flat top steamer trunk. It is steel-covered that has been painted black and floral embossed dark green and bound with oak slats. All of the steel hardwear including the brass lock and the latches are original. The leather handles have been replaced. The key is missing. It has fancy embossed slat clamps and two fingered edge clamps. The bottom has four roller wheels. It is 30"x 18.5"x 23"tall and weighs 45 lbs. The interior which is all original and has not been touched. Is fitted with a lidded tray, hat box and three lovely victorian prints. The only part that is missing is the lid for the right hand box. 1940's Antique JCHiggins Flat Top Steamer Trunk Chest Miltary Luggage Antique Flat Top Steamer Trunk Chest Long Co. Lock. The lock functions as designed. 2 keys are available. This is a great original antique trunk that measures 36" long X 23.5" Tall X 21 1/4" wide This is a big one. I am not sure of exact date when it was manufactured. But i would put somewhere around 1940's. The stamp on the lock reads Long Lock and Lock# 907. It has genuine leather handles on both sides. All the rivets are in place. The hardware is made from brass. The trunk is made of Vulcanized Fiber. It is in sound shape. There is a pull out drawer with the lid. The drawer is divided in two sections. Large Square Refinished Flat Top Steamer Trunk Antique Chest With Key Air Force
Air Force Military Band Refinished Antique Flat Top Steamer Trunk With Working Lock and Key Here is a refinished flat top steamer trunk from the Air Force. This one had labels on the exterior that gave reference to the Air Force and it had"218 Band" painted on the canvas. It probably was a trunk used by the Air Force to carry around a band instrument. We have taken some pictures of this label and writing on the canvas. We will be including these items with the trunk when it is sold. Here are the trunk's dimensions: from left to right across the front is 35 inches. From floor to top 20 inches. And from front edge to back edge is 35 inches. This unique trunk is the second one that we have had to refinish out of about 1500 trunks. It is not very common to find a trunk of this size and style. The trunk is made up of pine ply base ... morewood with oak or ash outer slat boards. The wood has been finished with three coats of polyurethane by Minwax. The wood does have some older character marks or beaut marks which include nicks and dings on the wood in various places. The trunk maker used a lot of cap metal on the edges. Probably to keep this trunk from being damaged if it got struck on the sides. The metal parts that make up this trunk are not brass, so we have brush painted the metal by hand in black and gold leaf. This large trunk comes with a signed working lock. It is signed, Excelsior" We had to remount the lock since it was loose when we received the trunk. The lock works since we have found a key that does activate the lock mechanism. The front and side latches also work, although we did have to replace one of the side latches. It is somewhat similar to the other three. This large square flat top trunk could serve nicely as a coffee table, especially if you have a sectional sofa. It would fit right in the 90 degree area in front of the sectional. The side handles were missing and have been replaced with Amish made black leather straps. Antique Steamer Trunk Flat Top 5 Latch painted metal
Antique flat top Trunk- Metal. Painted black with leather handles. There is one latch in the middle with a key hole. But I do not have the key and there are 2 buckle type latches(they work well) at either end and then also 2 slide in latches(they also work well) There are 3 hinges on the back side of the lid and they show some rust, but still function well. There has been some shelf or contact paper applied to part of the interior, but it is all loose and should come off easily. The bottom of the trunk is definitely in need of some TLC. I did not attempt any restoration, just wiped with a dry rag to remove loose dirt and dust. Other than the outside bottom of the trunk it is fairly good condition. Ready for its next home whether you decide to restore or leave as is. This is one of the most unusual and attractive antique steamer trunks I have found. Unusual design reinforced with multiple wood slats and copper detailing throughout. I acquired this particular trunk about 15 years ago and used it for awhile as an accent table with a glass top in my design studio. Although I am on the constant hunt for vintage trunks, this is one of the most unusual I have ever found and have held on to it for years awaiting another purpose. All wood construction with a multitude of wood slat reinforcements and copper straping with riveted joints throughout. Much of the original hardware. Including hinges, is intact but the front lock/latch ... moreand one side handle is missing. The interior is clean with remanants of an old paper lining that has been pealed away to reveal that the wood used in the making of the trunk was most likely recycled from antique wood crating. With one area showing an original stamp for the"American rubber company" I was surprised to see this and since this trunk is at least 100 years old, I think it is such an unusual and charming detail The trunk has probably had a coat of protective finish added to the exterior at some point and the wood has developed an aged and rich patina. There is a burn mark(see photo) on the left side. Indicating at some point in its history this trunk even endured some sort of fire, but is clean and undamaged otherwise. This trunk looks fantastic as is- I used it with a custom cut(very inexpensive) glass top for use as a coffee table. Either way. An absolutely stunning and historical addition to your design scheme! Fancy Refinished Flat Top Steamer Trunk Antique Chest With Straps, Key & 2 Trays
Gorgeous Refinished Antique Flat Top Steamer Trunk With Straps. And Buckles, Working Lock& Key and 2 Original Interior Trays Here we have a very unique flat top steamer trunk from around 1900 or so. Out of about 1500 trunks that we have refinished. This is the first one that has triple straps running up the front and across the top. This one had originally come with three straps going up the front and across the top from the factory. Obviously we have replaced those three straps with Amish made leather straps, running them where the original straps once were. The center strap can be tucked under a piece of leather on the top if you don't want it to come down over the lock. We have made it that way so you can display your trunk with the lock showing instead of being covered by the third strap. We did want to include the third strap ... moresince it is the first trunk we have ever had with three straps. It just makes it more complete by putting the strap that covers the lock on this trunk. All of the black strap keepers or hold downs that you see on the front and top of the trunk are the original ones which we have painted black. This trunk is made up of poplar base wood with oak outer slat boards. We have finished the wood with three coats of polyurethane by Minwax. The wood has some typical older distress marks which include older nicks and dings along with some areas of discoloration to the wood on the slat boards. This one doesn't have hardly any stress cracks in the wood which is quite unusual since most trunks we refinish have stress cracks. Here are the trunk's dimension s: from left to right across the front is 32 1/2 inches. From floor to top is 23 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 20 1/2 inches. This one comes with the original signed working lock. It is signed, Corbin Cabinet Lock Co New Britain Conn U.S.A. We have matched up a key that does work in this lock. The metal parts which make up this trunk are not brass and have been brush painted by hand in black and gold leaf. The edge band

Early Primitive Flat Top or Immigrant Steamer Trunk With Script Name or Writing
I am listing some very rare and unique antiques from my personal collection. This is a 100% all original condition wooden trunk. An antique dealer told me the handles and primitive metal work could date this trunk to the mid 1800's. It has original finish on the wood and painted on script writing. I believe it may say Thorkild L. Thorkildson. Elliott. I dont know what this means. The dealer also mentioned that this may be a very early immigrant trunk. Quality hand built dovetail construction makes this a beautiful piece. Place a nice piece of glass on top and you will have a very unique and beautiful sofa or coffee table. Refinished Flat Top Steamer Trunk Antique Chest With Straps and Interior Tray
Charming Refinished Antique Flat Top Steamer Trunk With Straps and Buckles and Interior Tray Here is a real primitive refinished steamer trunk or antique chest from the 1800's. This one is made up of pine base wood with poplar outer slat boards. It is probably from the Civil War era and has the original lock. The lock is there. But we could not find a key that works with it. So we are selling it in"As Is" condition as far as the lock goes. The trunk has the following dimension s: from left to right across the front is 27 1/2 inches. From floor to top is 12 1/2 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 14 inches. The wood has been finished with three coats of polyurethane by Minwax. There are some typical older distress marks on the wood which include older nicks and dings in the wood along with some stress cracks. A small ... morepiece of one of the top outer slat boards has been chipped away, probably many years ago. We have run a pair of Amish made leather straps with roller buckles up the front and across the top. These will secure the trunk's top to it's base when buckled. There were no front latches on this trunk. The side handles were missing and have been replaced with black leather straps. All of our leather products for these trunks are obtained from an Amish man near our home in Pennsylvania. You might want to use this trunk to store your Civil War items, coins, or other personal valuables inside. Our trunks have been used to display teddy bear and doll collections. Going to the inside, we have made a nice tray for the interior. The interior tray and interior wood have been given two coats of polyurethane. The interior wood is rough cut boards with the saw blade marks still on them. A nice picture of a Victorian girl posing has been added to the underside of the top. Going underneath the trunk to the exterior bottom, it is in decent shape and we have finished the bottom with a coat of polyurethane to make the trunk overall cleaner. Up for sale is this beautiful restored antique victorian flat top low profile steamer trunk with working key. It measures 34 1/2" long by 20" wide and 12 1/2" tall. The original canvas that wrapped this trunk has been removed and the wood was sanded. Stained with minwax"cherry" then sealed with two coats of spar urethane(light sand in between coats) The interior lining has been removed and the wood was sanded then stained. The Trunk shows obvious aesthetic signs of age but these details give it the perfect patina and look. The structure of this trunk is solid and it is very functional as a coffee table, blanket chest, etc. A great piece with tons of character that will be the focal point of any room. Nice Refinished Flat Top Steamer Trunk Antique Chest w/ org. lock & key& label
Beautiful Refinished Antique Flat Top Steamer Trunk with Original Working Lock and Original Working Key My husband and I have refinished over 130 trunks. Each one is a treasure of its own. The history of each trunk dates back as early as the 1 800's. Each has its own unique story. While owning a trunk of your own. You can enhance the tradition and legacy with your own family. This is a very nice decorative refinished flat top steamer trunk. The particular d imensions for this are 32" length. 19" width and 21" height. This beautiful trunk would make a great trunk for a college student to keep stuff in, or for someone to store old photo books in. To begin the restoration of this trunk we began by taking off the old canvas covering and all paper on the inside. Next we sanded the wood on the entire trunk. On the outside and ... moreon the inside. After all the sanding was done, we then applied coats of Polyurethane as the finishing touch to give the wood a nice shine. The trunk has some typical small stress marks and small stress cracks which are common in wood of this age. Next we painted all metal parts of the trunk with a black or gold leaf paint. We then attached 2 new Amish made tan leather hand l es to this beautiful trunk. With this particular trunk we were able to keep the original lock and key and they are in good working condition. Working the way up to the lid of this trunk. You will find the original stay to keep the lid open when wanted. Also on the lid you will find the original label. This is in wonderful condition and very readable. We included a picture to show you the label. We love finding these on trunks, it fills us in on a little bit of the trunk's history. Finally on the bottom of the trunk we painted all the black on that too. Also on the bottom are the four original casters that roll smoothly while moving the trunk. It has been restored inside and out and is super-clean and ready to use. The trunk is very solid and sturdy. It is made from oak and the exterior is covered in tin and has metal trim with oak slats. It has all of its original hardware. The trunk measures 34.5 inches wide by 20 inches deep by 24 inches high. And it weighs 64.5 pounds. The exterior has been thoroughly sanded. The tin has been primed and finished with two coats of black paint. The oak slats have been refinished with two coats of tung oil as has all of the exterior hardware and other metal parts. Both of the levers that lock the latches work fine. Both of the handles ... morehave been replaced with very similar leather handles. The bottom was sanded and finished in black. All four of the original metal roller wheels on the bottom of the trunk are intact. The entire inside of the trunk and the oak tray have been sanded and refinished with two coats of polyurethane. The lid for the tray has been recovered in Victorian-pattern cloth. There is a reproduction Victorian chromolithograph on the top of the inside of the trunk lid. The lock is solid brass. For your consideration is a ca 1900 flat top steamer trunk. I t has been fully refinished. The originally outside canvas covering was cleaned and repainted. The interior paper has been removed to show the beauty of the pine wood. All hardware is original and in excellent shape. The hinges and lid stay are strong and work properly. All hardware was cleaned and sealed. The lock does not have a key. The leather side handles are new. The bottom is clean. It has the original tray with new bottom. We are pleased to offer this antique trunk which dates to the late 19th century and may either be German or American made. No markings. It measures 28 x 18 x 21(LWH) and is in good antique condition. Nice Refinished Antique Flat Top Steamer Trunk With Straps& Buckles. Interior Divided Tray, and Working Lock& Key Here we have a nice. Clean refinished flat top steamer trunk from around 1900 or so. This one is a true flat top with no factory arch. Here are the following dimensions: from left to right across the front is 36 1/2 inches. From floor to top is 24 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 21 inches. This trunk appears to be made up of pine base wood with poplar or ash outer slat boards. The wood has been finished with three coats of polyurethane by Minwax. The wood is in pretty good condition with some typical older distress marks which include older nicks and dings concentrated on to the outer slat boards along with some hairline stress cracks. Just about all of the trunks that we refinish have these similar markings. ... moreThis beautiful trunk comes with the original signed working lock. It is signed, Eagle Lock Co Terryville Conn U.S.A. We have matched up a key that does work properly with this lock. This one originally had leather straps with buckles. They were eroded away, so we have run a nice pair of Amish made leather straps with roller buckles up the front and across the top in the very same location where the original ones once were. These straps are functional and when buckled, they help secure the top of the trunk to it's base in addition to the lock and front latches. The front latches are in working condition and are original. The side handles have also been replaced with Amish made black leather stitched straps. The metal parts that make up this trunk are not brass and have therefore been brush painted by hand in black and gold leaf. Going to the inside of the trunk. It comes with the original divided tray. We have replaced the bottom of the tray with a wooden bottom to make it sturdy. We have removed the interior paper lining from the interior and tray since it was worn out. Good looking, 2 original keys that work the lock. Flat top so you could add a piece of glass to make it your coffee table while storage hides inside! Perfect in the bedroom too! This is the most original steamer trunk we have ever had. It has the 2 original tray liners. One open, one with a folding top panel. This trunk is an antique, it is solid wood covered with the original canvas, strapped with solid wood horizontal strips for structure, edged with fancy heavy iron trims. The original clasp on either side of the front and lock are in place and work well. We were lucky to find two keys for the lock so you can hide your goodies. The initials G.M.D. are stenciled ... moreon each side of the trunk. Imagine this was the owners initials. Great storage. Good looking, ready to use with metal bottom that still has the original metal rolling wheels! These photos were taken outdoors so the colors are accurate. Take a look at the 12 photos you will not find a nicer steamer trunk on Ebay. I am not an expert on items we sell just describing what I see when I look at the piece. Use this as a guideline and follow along with the photos I have taken several at different angles to give you a good look at what you are buying. Condition: Very good condition. All locks and clasps work well. The hinges are sturdy in place and hold the lid up with a side arm attached to the inner wall. There is NO missing or torn/broken canvas, the wood may have some tiny dings from years of use but look very good. The bottom is metal with original metal rolling wheels. There is NO rot or rust holes on the metal, NO rot on any of the wood. The original leather handles are attached to each end of the trunk although one is quite worn. This is a beauty! And there is no insert/tray There is no key for the lock. Lock information: YALE& TOWNE Mfg. Co, Stamford, Conn, USA# B54- lock is circa 1890's to 1920's- I am not sure of the material of the trunk. It appears to be a wood/fiber type material with all corners& trim being brass or metal. This trunk needs some major TLC, but could be beautiful once restored; the starting price reflects this.
