The leather handles are gone and there isn't any key. The sad part is that while I was taking photos of the tin bottom, the trunk somehow locked itself and I don't have a key. I did check with the local Antique Mall and they had some that were close, but they didn't work. I'm so thankful that I took photos of the inside first! So I am giving this a low starting price and hoping that someone will love it enough to find a key. It is 20 x 11 x 11 and all original. We accept PayPal. This trunk measures approximately 22" ... morelong X 14" wide X 15 1/2" high and it has two hinges in back that hold the lid securely to the base. There used to be sturdy leather handles on each side of the trunk but they are no longer intact, these can be purchased inexpensively on-line and they're fairly easy to replace. The corner protectors and hardware appear to be brass plated steel. There are two hasp type closures, one on each side of the lock and the lock needs to be bent just a little to close it securely. We tried the key and the locking mechanism seems to work properly but we didn't want to damage anything so it will arrive open with the key tucked in an envelope safely inside. The inside of the trunk is wood and there should be wood beneath the black material covering the outside(it is non-magnetic and we don't think it's metal) This little trunk is in very good condition and once it's restored it should be a beauty- perfect for your antique doll collection or as a gift for a very special grandchild. Unrestored Antique Dome Top Humpback Steamer Trunk Tin/Wood Slats and leather
This is a beautiful wooden slate trunk. It was made with wood. Leather, and metal trunk. Someone tried to paint the inside of the trunk over the years but the outside was left untouched. This antique Hartman Trunk Co. Steamer Suitcase/trunk has great appeal and character. Early 1900's. Covered in leather/cowhide with a pink silk interior this piece was sold by Saks Fifth Avenue. Bronze hinges with a really neat mechanism. Over all condition is great for the age. Leather hinge on the back has torn on the left side. The original owners initials are stamped on the front and have not work. The name of the owner is still on a travel tag attached to a Holland America cruise liner tag. This beautiful French Vellum Trunk. With its incredible character and elegance, sailed on the Queen Elizabeth from New York to an unknown destination. Measuring 35" long, 20 1/2" wide, and 13 1/2" deep, the exterior has the original solid wood banding and polished chrome latches and hardware. Engraved on the lock is the word"Surete" which is french for"security" Its edges are protected with original rawhide trim secured by silver nail heads. There is a wonderful original vintage tag from the Cunard Line and an old travel decal. Circa 1920's. This French Trunk is in good condition with minimal wear from age and use. The interior has 2 working cloth straps and is clean with no issues or musty smell. The trunk has the original leather handles, but one has a split in part of the leather. Selling this stagecoach trunk made around the 1860's. The trunk is all original and the leather is in very nice condition. The leather is a little dirty and could use a conditioning. There is a tray incuded. The holding comparment in the interior will need to be reattached as the leather hinges are no longer attached. The trunks handels are also in great shape. It appears that the metal bands are also brass plated. Though a couple of them have been painted green. Its rare that a trunk is in as nice condion as this one. The case is holding up very well. the integrity of the seams, corners edges and so forth is very good. Very nice quality throughout. The shape/ panels have become a bit warped as the pictures show. But the case closes without any problem and the single latch mechanism works well. The hardware is in brass and has a great quality feel that you would expect from one of the very best London Makers. There is one place where a seam has dropped about 3 stitches. picture 5) There are further minor age commensurate bumps and scuffs, but nothing to worry about. This is a numbered leather rounded top steamer trunk circa 1854 to 1867. The company started in 1854 and in 1867 changed the look to canvas and the top to a flat surface for better stacking. This trunk has a little recent damage to one outside corner from my daughters cats scratching but I think that can be smoothed out with the right tool. The trunk is over 100 years old so the outside is worn but it is in good condition in spite of the scratches. The inside is in beautiful condition with a wonderfully intack. Clean tray and 3 compartments below the tray with the ties still there to hold your clothes down? The outside leather handles are still there and in good condition. I never allowed anyone to move the trunk by using these handles. I also have a key to the trunk. There are, it seems to me, old European hotel sticker marks on the outside. ... moreI actually have some of these old, beautifully colored stickers from the 1950's or earlier that I would sell separtley. This auction is for a vintage steamer trunk. I think this is the right wording for them. This is black, hinged lid, leather strap handles on each end. Two clasp closures on the front, the main lock is missing the bottom as you can see in the photos. The inside is papered. This is worn and discolored, it is the original. There is a wooden bar on each side where the shelf would sit, but is no longer with the trunk. Measures right at 36" wide, 21.5" deep and 24" tall. It has weight to it! The trunk is covered with brown leather which has a beautiful warm patina. It is bound with brass corners and corners straps, and has brass handles with large backplates on each side. The front has two brass locks and latches. The front and both sides each have a row of copper studs running between the corner straps. The hinged lid opens to a fabric lined interior. The trunk measures 22"w x 20"h x 20"d. Condition: Aside from minor wear. Rubbing and small stains to the leather, the trunk is in very good-excellent condition. Vintage 1940's- 50's Red Leather Storage Trunk with nailhead trim. Just off the old homestead and ready to come home to you! Trunk measures 24" wide, 19" high, and 17" deep. Fantastic condition- only a couple of minor wear marks. This trunk's insides look like they came off of the showroom floor- amazing for how old the piece is. The homestead was in the family for 100 years and this is just one of the jewels that have been unearthed- claim it while you can. Let me begin by saying I do not know a lot about this trunk and I am no expert. I cannot find another one exactly like it online. From information I have gathered I believe it is a camel back trunk from the 1870s or 1880s. Several pieces of the hardware on the trunk have"Patent mar 16" on them. Dimensions: Length 32" 18" wide, 21" tall, 14" deep The trunk is made of metal and wood. The leather handle/strap on the left side of the trunk has been broken off and is MIA. The latch on the front is intact. But it won't latch and the key is also MIA, presumably with the leather handle. Maybe they are lying on a beach somewhere together. Hello! This antique Hartmann suitcase is quite a rare find. This lovely dark leather case features a patterned gold fabric inside and was most likely purchased in 1934. The tag inside reads"As exhibited by Hartmann at A Century of Progress" This model was introduced at the Chicago World's Fair in 1933. Where the theme was"A Century of Progress" It featured the breakthrough technology of belt leather covering, a basswood frame, and inverted stitching. This beautiful piece of history would make a great display, perfect addition to a collection, or a wonderful authentic prop at a vintage or southern themed wedding reception. This antique case is in good condition considering its age and use. There is normal wear to the leather in the form of cracks. Scratches, etc. The wear is mostly concentrated to the corners and edges ... moreof the case. Structurally the case in wonderful shape, with no dents or damage. The hardware is in great condition and the latches work wonderfully. The inside fabric only has one small stain at the bottom, near the back(about the size of a quarter) The elastic in the ruffled pockets is in perfect shape. 17th century Spanish Colonial Tooled Leather Coffer Trunk Chest
This stunning 17th century tooled leather Spanish Colonial coffer retains its original hardware and patterned linen lining. The mark of an old cattle brand is clearly visible in the leather on the back of the trunk. it would be great to find a way to trace this brand to the hacienda from which the herd came. The carved claw feet belong to the trunk but are two separate pieces, and serve to keep the trunk up off the floor. While very old, they may have been made for the chest sometime after its completion. Many of the hand forged nails remain but some are missing. The leather is missing in the upper right front corner of the trunk. As can be seen in the first photo, above. Piece is very sturdy and condition overall is excellent. No odors.
